there would be no end to my happiness if i could replace every single component in imac, but the thing is that thats not the direction apple is headed, quite the opposite. there are certainly many design wins that way but we should also consider the income from apple repair services, so we're basically blowing on cold. we have to deal with it. still, i would rather buy a mac :)

I now have 3 Macs and intend to buy more. :)

Just weighing in here... If JI could modify the existing design to include HD accessibility near the current RAM slots underneath the bezel, that'd be a great balance.

Land Rover Defender = spare wheel
That will hopefully never change

As far as non glare, lets get this straight. The new imac wont be Matte, imac had its matte time. Looks like crap, lcd screen easily damages, have to be more careful cleaning it vs quick wipe on glass. What should and likely will happen is antiglare museum glass
That's true for low-quality screens like the iMac & iBook had back in the days. Sad fact is that high quality matte screens cost a lot and using cheap components for high price is reflected on Apple profits. They won't be upgrading the displays as long as people are willing to shell out good money for Acer-level glare screens.
You want to see brilliant matte screens? Look at Eizo, high-end Bravia screens or Vaio laptops, then come back saying matte looks like crap. Even my old T60 has better & sharper colour reproduction than current MacBooks.

Ill still say matte is crap, never liked it. Was very pleased when Apple dropped it . Much more modern looking and sleek to use glass that is flush with the bezel

Re

Its great to know about it.the features mentioned in post are really fabulous

.

Things I'd like to see (much of which has already been mentioned)

1. Don't eliminate DVD - I need it! If anything, at least make it an option.
2. Make Blueray an option
3. Easier access to Hard Drive and SSD for self-upgrades
4. Double the number of memory slots so people can upgrade to 32GB without spending a fortune on 8GM sticks.
5. Screen - I'm fine with the current choices.
6. Adjustable height (My 27" iMac fits on my rolltop, but I can't close the roll top. If I could lower the screen down about an inch, I could close my roll top).
7. Include a nice soft-cloth slip-ove cover to keep the dust away when not in use.
8. Include more cleaning cloths for cleaning the screen
9. Bring back Front Row (just personal preference, but I kinda like FR)
10. Bring back Rosetta support so people can still use pgms like Quicken

1. Thay will remove the DVD. Just buy a extarnal, it's not expensive and just as good.
2. Probably not!
3. Not lik Apple to make it user freindly. But I hope fore that to.
4. Hopefully that will be done!
5. I'd would like upgrade to 30" and hope fore a mid size like 24-25"
6. Also hope for adjustable screens.
7. Would be good but I dont think Apple will do this mabey theird party.
8. No comment.
9. No comment.
10. Don't think thay will!

This is just my beleaves!

I always change my gear on a redesign so I am tempted to update my 2010 iMac and MacBook pro it also just depends on how major the redesign will be for example it was from the Pixar like lamp 2nd gen iMac to the third gen I would update without hesitating but if was from the 3rd to 4th gen iMac I would still prefer the 3rd.

P.S Also for all those that are saying just get a removable DVD if apple ditches the optical disk it would kind of rain down on the parade of apples all in one computer motto

Why remove the DVD? There's enough real estate to keep it. Why even think of buying an external drive, isn't the purpose of a AIO to have less clutter.

Beside paying the Apple tax, now I'd have to pay for an external. Make no sense to me.

There's been a disappointingly few number of rumours on the MR site regarding the new imac. I'd have expected more given Intel and AMD's releases. Guess it implys nothing any time soon.

"No one uses physical media anymore."

Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean that many others still do.

I still create audio CD's for downloaded music -- have hundreds upon hundreds of them filed away.

No one uses physical media anymore. Also, an external drive costs $20.

Believe it or not, not all software is available on digital download, and not all people have rock-solid unmetered internet access.

I need my ODD about twice a year, but for those times, I certainly don't want to pay extra for a peripheral and find a place to store it when I'm not using it.

Silent update coming soon
Really? I thought it was pretty well-established that this year we're seeing either a pretty major update or a redesign. At the very least Ivy Bridge warrants more than just a silent update.

It is weird that, with the announcement supposedly coming in June, there's still so little information out there. Makes me wonder if it's gonna be a while longer before they come out. I've been holding off on buying one for a few months now, and I dunno how much longer I can wait!

Why? Ivy Bridge is a new technology for Intel, but in real terms it's a modest power improvement and a modest speed boost. The big deal for Ivy Bridge CPUs is the new integrated graphics, which are 50% faster. (50% faster than 0 is still 0.)

The much greater gains will come from AMD's new mobile video cards. The new 7970m can double the performance of the 6970m's in the 2011 models. But that's certainly nothing to throw a party over.

sorry but if apple catered to people who refuse to move on to new technology, apple wouldn't be apple.

i stream all of my music directly from my htpc and/or google music. my cars cd player hasn't been used in years now.

all of my tv shows/movies are stored on my htpc in files. i don't own a blu-ray player or a dvd player anymore.

its funny when people bring up the "all in one's should be about less clutter!" when its coming from people who still have a mass collection of cds/dvds/etc.

Ignorance is bliss.

People don't necessarily refuse to move on to new technology, some simply don't have the ability. My father's small business is having a hell of a time upgrading his new Mac Mini's to the newest OS due to the lack of physical media. He has 3 business computers, and is now forced to open 3 separate Apple ID's with 3 different credit cards to be able to upgrade his OS legally on each Mini. This takes time and is costing his business money. Had he the ability to buy family/business volume OS upgrades on DVD as he has in the past, he would have been up and running in hours.

Not to mention that many people would like physical backups of their hours and hours of work and not simply wish it away to a hard drive or cloud drive or what have you.

It's one thing to be innovative and push along new technology. It's a completely different thing to FORCE a good chunk of your business to move onto things they or their business may not be ready for, be it time constraints, money, or any other variable that may pop up.

You are not everyone.

2011 Figures:

"IFPI reports today that trade revenue from global sales of all recorded music fell three per cent last year to $16.6bn. Digital revenues rose eight per cent to $5.2bn, while physical revenues fell 8.7 per cent to $10.1bn."

It seems that, despite your objections, a lot of people are still using optical media.

Most people in the videography still use DVD's and will do so for the next foreseeable years. I wouldn't want to add an external drive to an AIO. If Apple decides to remove the ODD then they should rename the iMac the AI2.

What about a high(er) resolution display? I don't mean a retina display, but some more pixels would be great... I like the current design of the iMac, so for me there is no need to change it. So I keep my fingers crossed for a high resolution display.

completely wrong.

ever since lion was made available in the app store, the license agreement has been changed to this:

"The OS X Lion Software License Agreement allows you to install and use the software for your personal, non-commercial use on all the Macs you own or control that are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Snow Leopard Server (a Mac Computer)"

so you can download using the same account on each computer and upgrade them like that.

Not to mention that many people would like physical backups of their hours and hours of work and not simply wish it away to a hard drive or cloud drive or what have you.

physical backups = external drives. why would anyone store their actual backup in the same machine? that makes no sense and defeats the whole purpose of having a backup if your computer completely fails. besides, who the heck still backs up on to dvd/cd discs anymore???

i don't know if you've noticed, but apple has ALWAYS been the one forcing and pushing new tech. most obvious and recent example would be completely leaving flash unsupported on iOS devices.
