4. desktop cpu
CPU's are already desktop models. That is not likely to change given how little juice Ivy Bridge needs and how expensive the laptop versions are.

Exactly. Apple is using a heatsink design in the iMac which is unlikely to change in newer models and which simply would not be able to deal with very powerful GPUs. I think there is very little room for speculation in terms of additional GPU power. We'll see upgrades, but not major ones. How to fit a giant cooling tower in a all-in-one to stop the desktop GPU melting down??
Neither am I, and I would be very surprised about a retina iMac, because the price at these sizes should be huge. Who will pay $3000 for a basic-configuration iMac just to get a retina display?
I am quite sure that 512GB SSDs will become at least an option.
They should also adapt the pricing to current standards. If you buy an iMac right now, you pay SSD prices from last year.![]()
Superb ... my Student Card expires on the 20th of October ... So no bloody discount on this thing ! As if they knew ....
$500 to go from a 1TB drive to a 256SSD. WTF? Those prices are insane.
At least we'll get 7 days of reprieve from the whiney thread hijackers spouting "What about the iMac" off topic dribble.
They'll be all vertical and extra long, so you can reach everything with just ONE outstretched arm.
Wondering if they scratch easily?

And let's face it, Apple does not consider Macs to be gaming machines.
Also a new Thunderbolt Display with dedicated gpu?
I wonder why people don't care about this product at all![]()
Did I miss the posting of the event invite or is the whole event still a rumor?
Um. No thanks. Monitors are output devices, not processing devices. Don't need a monitor that becomes outdated because it can't handle the workload three years from now.
Considering even Alienware is just using GTX675M and could run most games fine at 80 FPS on Full HD without setting the whole plastic shell on fire, if Apple could fit this GPU in their top end iMac, the graphic performance should be solved.
Remember GTX675M is still not comparable to true desktop GPU.
I think it's more about aesthetics than that they are chasing millimeters.
Why? I expect all the products announced to be available next day except for the iPad.
Could be. I just had the impression that they have pretty much reached a limit with their current design, and they'd have to do some rearranging of components to break out of this.Considering even Alienware is just using GTX675M and could run most games fine at 80 FPS on Full HD without setting the whole plastic shell on fire, if Apple could fit this GPU in their top end iMac, the graphic performance should be solved.
