key words "used to". Those days are clearly over. From a business point of view, it is hard to argue against that. They could drop the entire mac line with maybe the macbook pros as an exception, and move forward and continue to expect large profits. Might make some of us angry (very angry), but probably wouldn't effect the bottom line much for Apple. They simply have discovered a more profitable market in iStuff.

Sure they can,but this will make emerge a very different Apple and i will stop buyng any Apple products,i'm buyn its ecosystem not just a phone.

And what if some people don't mind being locked into that eco system?

Ecosystem is the key but not only also versatility, thats why we have Bootcamp and Intel and ecosystem because its a stair,
mobile,tablet,laptop,desktop.
Can't see just a Forstall Apple able to survive and without desktops where Forstall will develop..on a Surface?or just on a rMbookPro...,c'mon.. .

I think I understand you. I was never criticizing desktops at all. I own an iMac and love it and will most likely continue to purchase iMacs in the future. But Apple's eco system is obviously much larger than just Mac desktops and laptops and I was referring more to the bigger picture.

If Apple breaks the ecosystem, I think a lot of people will stop paying the markup for their products.

The whole point of the ecosystem is that everything "just works" and that's largely true.

But if they stop making desktops, then we will have to contend with Windows, and we all know that won't "just work" the way the Apple ecosystem does.

Someone needs to step up out of no where with something else besides win/os -_-" It would be tough to start up though.

Wait, you mean to tell me that there is a red bumper now? I don't think I can stand the excitement. I don't know which is more exciting, that, or the number of pins the idock connector has.

Look at 9to5mac they make a blog post about an iPhone 4/4s red iPhone bumper and kinda make a big deal about it. REALLY REALLY??? They choose to report on iPhone 4 bumpers.

where can I get one of these new groovy red bumpers? Do they come preloaded with U2s back catalogue?

How come there's going to be a new design why would they make it silent ? "screen lamination issues" hellooo! the Kou article pointed out screen lamination issues. Now why would they have problem with screens since they've been shipping the same screen since 2009. That same article also pointed out that they would potentially have done by late September. If it was going to be the same design why would they just release it now? All the components are avaliable? Idk about you guys but this new event looks very promising. I'm very very confinement well see what's going on with the iMacs by then.

Because there hasn't been one that doesn't mean that there won't be an event I'm pretty sure apple wanted to release the iMac by July but since the screen lamination issues which mean well see a new screen potentially a new design. That's what's taking so long. And what better place to showcase the new iMac in an apple event. I say Mac minis and iMac on sep 12.
Why might they be having issues with the display? As much as I'd love to see a riMac, and perhaps Apple will surprise us with one, I think it's because Apple's doing the same thing with the glass as they did on the rMBP, and that's removing it. Less reflections, glare, etc.

linux... lol... the worst consumer OS of all time

You realise that OS X runs on BSD right? :p

In more serious news, it's now August 16th and there's not a hint of a rumour from anywhere, surely if the iMac is to land on the 12th of September someone would of seen something (even if just like a power cable or small component from the inside)?

If all that is being changed is the screen lamination, the CPU, graphics card and USB3, there isn't much to leak.

I think not. There's rarely any leaks of Mac computers before release. Look at MacBooks at wwdc, no component leaks. And look at precious releases on all macs, no design or component leaks- only rumors

True, but we DID get something: the complete part number list together with prices was leaked before WWDC: https://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/0...t-over-a-dozen-new-mac-models-coming-at-wwdc/
Then again it leaked just a week before, so if the iMacs are really scheduled for October I suppose that we need to find another hobby to kill time with in the meantime...

Yes this is usually what you get...first just some light rumors like we had so far and maybe a bit more...then product numbers and whatnot a few days before release.

How weird would that be, if Apple discontinued all of their desktops. It would 360 everything from 5-10 years ago. PC users (not all of them) will be the new Mac users, and Mac users will switch to PC.

Personally however I think if Apple discontinues desktops right now then the Mac will die. It just can't be done, it doesn't matter what the laptop sales are right now. It's like removing the US postal service because they don't create as much revenue. It's like, Christ, upgrade it then, give the mailmen segways and mail scanning services; use your brain.

It's so shocking how pessimistic everyone on this forum is. It's ridiculous if you ask me.

We won't see Apple discontinue their desktops any time soon people. Stop crying about this already!

People have been preaching this for nearly 8 years now....

Between the "desktops are dead" crowd and the "no refresh till 2013" crowd, I'm about to jump off a cliff...

I know it is crazy. I can't wait until the forum goes back to normal once this thing is finally released.

I guess people are super impatient, but clearly Kuo whomever from KGI seems to know the most information that is out there, and it is saying September/October. So lets all wait and then be reward on either:

9/4
9/11
9/18
9/25
10/2
10/9
10/16
10/23
or
10/30

We made it this far!

I doubt we see it released or announced on the 12th. It could very well happen on a Tuesday the week prior, week of, or week after, but it'll just get a little blip on the bottom of their website in one of those 4 squares.

It'll be the iPhone 5 and or iPad Mini on the top and then the 4 squares on the bottom of the home page will be:

iMac, Mac Mini, iOS6, and Montain Lion.... or maybe iPods instead of Mountain Lion.

OR

It comes out before the iphone and gets the main spot on the home page for a week or so and then goes down to the bottom.

Who knows?

Ha,lol.

I remember a few pages back someone said about oct 5 launch, to honour steve. It's feasible I think.

And, if that does not happen, lets shoot for November1st, just in time for Christmas. Seriously, I'm figuring 1st quarter 2013. Apple need products to keep customer interest high that is why you will not see an Imac or Mac Pro in 2012.

It will be in october, can't guarantee but looking at what apple have done

Oct 2008 : redeesign mbp
Oct 2009 : redesign imac
Oct 2010 : back to the mac event
Oct 2011 : silent mbp update

If it doesnt come at october, you might as well wait till next year. I remember back in 2007 that apple update the mbp on november, cmiiw.

Wow, that's a great design concept. May I recommend that you send your resume to Apple. It would not surprise me, in the end, the new Imac will look something like your design.

No, I will continue whining, wildly flailing with my hands in the air! Also, I will hold my breath (literally) until there is a new iMac.
