Amazing, that would mean APPLE upgrades their consumer gear before the pro great. A MacPro upgrade would be much more needed - Almost 1 1/2 years old. Especially with some of these nice ATI Readon GPU cards, like the 5760.

Maybe some configurations of the new Mac Pro are getting AMD chips causing that line to be delayed a bit.

Optical drive

I hope they finally do away with the internal optical drive.

External options for SuperDrive and Blu-Ray would do. Not that I would buy either.

They could substitute an SDHC reader and put the MacOSX on one card. ;)

I hope they don't do something drastic to blow my iMac out of the water. I'm curious about the patents that surfaced awhile ago about the computer recognizing objects held up to the screen. I'm still happy with my machine, although Snow Leopard still has the occasional beach ball, the hardware with my computer is solid.

my Rev. A 24" Aluminum iMac 2.8GHz Extreme 4GB RAM (Aug. 2007) Applecare expiring next month already gets blown out of the water by your i7. So what does that mean for me?

Oh, wait, my iMac rocks, kicks butt at pretty much everything I throw at it, and while it would be nice to have a 27" spec this and spec that iMac, I'm pretty sure my current machine will give me excellent performance for some time to come.

Actually this report is about all iMac models. Thus the confusion.:)

I'm gonna guess the 21.5" will get the core i3 since the i5 and i7 put out too much heat for the smaller space in the 21.5"

Ok. But why an i3? An i3 if they use arrendale, will need descrete graphics. I'd say if its an i3, just use a Core 2 Duo.

Glad to see Apple potentially adding the latest and greatest technology to it's Pro line....oh wait...

I've become convinced that someone at Apple who's in charge of updating products has their spreadsheet set to sort by name, not date. So since there is no "i" in the Mac Pro name it just keeps going to the bottom of their list.

Base models should get a processor bump or at least the option of customising it to a core i5/i7.

Would be interesting to see if Apple go with USB 3 or lightpeak which is due next year right?

Prediction:

The delays in both the MacPro and the iMac (my prediction) are form factor changes.

You know how famous Apple is on stickling for design of products - it's not necessarily the insides, but the cases for the new products (my prediction).

Apple might just sell some iMacs to creative pros if they'd ever offer a matte display option. The only matte option Apple has anymore for desktops is the 30" ACD...not that I'm complaining since I got one and have never been happier :D

I wonder if we will see a 30" and higher version?
I sit in front of Dual 30's everyday and when I come home to my 24", it just isnt the same :(

Doubt it. Anything bigger than the 21.5" isn't really useful in a consumer computer. The current 27" accomplishes the wow factor they were going for.

Sigh

I think the biggest problem with that is people who work in offices with large windows exposed to daylight behind them.

In my studio where the light is controlled I don't cry out for a matte option but I can see why there are those that do. It's hard to argue with the corei7 horsepower though.

...

They are going to give it a speed bump to all core i3 or i5 and update the design to be edge to edge glass like the iPad. Usb3 and faster FireWire won't be included until 2011

Nice USB 3.0 Blu-ray external drives already on the market - a good substitution for Apple's shunning of Blu-ray - that is, if Apple includes USB 3.0 on the latest iMac iteration. Unsure if they'd be Mac compatible however.

And an antenna along the outer edge? Just don't hold it the screen the wrong way ...

In 2009 it was exactly three weeks to the day between Apple's alert to the channel and the refresh. That puts us at 8/10 or 8/17, you believe in Tuesdays.

I wouldn't count on that. As is, the i7 iMac gets just about the same performance figures as a quad Mac Pro. The number one thing that stops professional use of these is connectivity. I wouldn't count on much changes there. If it happens – terrific. I'll be in line for one.

Which is exactly why I purchased the 17" MBP...for expresscard slot to facilitate expansion. For instance, the Tempo Sonnet Pro eSATA adapter has allowed me to achieve faster throughput with a GRAID than the internal 7200RPM.

But uhhh, if new iMac has FW3200 and USB 3.0, will likely spring for it. Native Blu-Ray support and FCS update to provide real BD authoring? Yeah, then I'll definitely spring for it.

You don't need USB3 for blu-ray. You can already do that today, but OSX does not support blu-ray playback.

New 27-inch Coming??

I am really looking forward to details of this version, if there is one. Any chance of height adjustment in the 27-inch. I desperately need the height to go down from 20.4 inches to 19.5.
