Images Allegedly Show Real iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts and Status Bar Items [Updated]

I'll never get over how ugly that thing is. Apple's first asymmetric iPhone design ever, the most appealing feature about their design language is gone.
Following Apple's announcement that it will hold an event on Wednesday, September 7, several alleged leaks coming out of Asia purport to show the iPhone 14 Pro's display cutouts and status bar items.
Twitter user "DuanRui" today shared several images from Chinese social media site Weibo, with one seemingly showing a close-up, real-world image of the iPhone 14 Pro's "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array cutouts that are expected to replace the notch.
For reference, Twitter leaker known as "Ice Universe" shared an image of the front of an iPhone 14 Pro dummy earlier today. In the image, the display cutouts are clearly artificial, which may make the above image much more believable.
At the same time, leaker "ShrimpApplePro" shared a segment of a screenshot allegedly from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, overlaid with an identical screenshot from an iPhone 13 Pro Max, to show how Apple is purportedly planning to enlarge and realign the status bar's items to account for the new "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array design.
Another alleged screenshot from ShrimpApplePro shows how the entire status bar is arranged on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, repositioning the cellular signal, Wi-Fi, and battery indicators slightly lower and to the right.
The standard iPhone 14 models are expected to retain the same notch used on the iPhone 13 linep, with the "pill and hole-punch" being one of the main selling points of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The devices are also expected to feature the A16 chip, an always-on display, a 48-megapixel Wide camera, and more.

Definitely looks more obnoxious and intrusive than the notch. Hopefully they have an option/way to mask out the screen where the notch would have been so there won't be a sliver of light/colors along the top of the phone.
The cutout I want to see is if it still has lightening port or if iPhone finally is upgraded to a modern USB-C port.
Is this “real photo” not just this mockup that has been on twitter? Zoom in, even the “S” from the SOS is there… while it may be very accurate… it is fake
i would have preferred that they shrunk the current notch in height than this “i” cutout. The position and gap between the cutouts just looks sloppy.
More screen real estate > a notch that looks "more elegant, etc.". Plus, according to rumors the bezels will be trimmed a bit.
I don't see the argument for the notch at all but of course it's just my opinion. As others have said with the notch, you eventually will ignore it to focus on the task on your phone anyway. Same goes with the "pill".
My plan is to go from a 12 pro to a 14 pro max so even more additional screen real estate will be welcomed.

If there isnt some sort of animation in the announcement that shifts that i into “iPhone” I’m going to be massively dissapointed
Aesthetically, I strongly prefer the notch, but that said, we will all get used to this.
I used to hate the notch but its slowly become one of the iconic features that make the iPhone stand out.
All that tech squashed into a small area making sure you get some of the best selfie images on the market.
I feel like the new pill design is going to make the iPhone look like any other android phone.
Will be sad to see it go.

@frosty18 It's a mock-up. It just gives you an idea of what it's going to look like in the real world.
I don't know if it's me or not but it's definitely going to take some time to get adjusted. The "i" shape pill hole is more noticeable from the notch. Just stare at it for 30 seconds without moving your eyes away. You will see. However, change is good.
The pill + circle in this mockup seem chubbier than the photos in the article though 🤔 I really hope this is not 1:1 with the real thing because these are very big.
Seems the community is 50:50 split on cutout vs notch. I have experience of both (personal iPhone X and work Galaxy A51) and I much prefer the notch. I find the cutout much more intrusive (like a blob on the screen) and I find that the screen above the cutout (and between the pill and cutout in the 14 Pro) is pretty useless but still draws battery to light up. On the flip side, I view the notch as an unblemished screen with additional 'ears'. Not all content fits this (I would prefer video content not to go into the ears) but 90% of the time I don't notice the notch.

Makes more sense for it to be an "i" though and i'm sure that they will use it in marketing as such.
what kind of content you will get from that little area when watching video or anything else ?!
They need to just delete the selfie camera. It would solve so many problems.
I think they mean the old way where it's next to it. Too small being scrunched in the icon. I hope they change it by live.
It's crazy anymore. Same with movies. All I want to see are a few trailers. Don't want to know the entire plot six months before.
iOS 16 beta has the battery percentage in the icon. 🙂
