Never understood the hate on the notch. It just looks functional to me. I have a phone with a hole punch (Z flip3) but I certainly don’t notice anything use wise. If anything the holes and pill shapes do less for me personally.

The more space the better. Also, I really just want a battery capacity percentage showing. Is that really too much to ask for?

Pill and hole > the notch.
In iOS 16, you can have the percentage show inside the (solid) battery. I turned it off because it’s damn annoying watching it drop every few minutes. If I want to know, I use the Control Center. And I hate the pill and dot cutout, too, for what it’s worth. The small notch was fine.

My biggest issue is that the stereo speakers on the iPhone are worthless with Apple Music because the lyrics don’t rotate. Why not display them like they do on AppleTV or iPad, with the album cover on the left and lyrics on the right? I’ve sent at least 200 feedbacks on that issue alone over the last 5 iOSs and they refuse to change it because they want to force you into buying their AirPods. (And remember the good ‘old days when you could turn your phone either way and the screen would flip with it as well as the stereo channels?)

I just don’t understand the point. Still makes the same if not more area just as unusable. Just wasting energy lighting up pixels that will never show information. Like the useless gap underneath the dock ever since big sur.

They added it a few betas back. Only certain phones get it though. If you have an old X or a smaller one, that may be why you don't have it.
Indeed. My iPhone 6s always had it -- and still does. My iPhone 12 does not yet have it -- I guess not enough room for it with the notch. Good to hear that has been remedied.

I'll never get over how ugly that thing is. Apple's first asymmetric iPhone design ever, the most appealing feature about their design language is gone.
Yeah. And where is there now room for the ambient light sensor? On my 13 Pro Max the notch includes the camera plus 3 other circles inside (ToF, infrared dots, ambient light sensor, and the camera is on the LEFT which I much prefer to all the previous ones and the 14 which put the camera back on the right side. How about keeping the camera in the center??)

The notch itself has never bothered me but change is good. It's going to be strange not having a notch in Pro models.

Personally, I think Apple could have just gone with a longer line pill shape. Instead of that "i"
100%. Not sure why the i shape…the space in the middle is unusable anyway.

I don't know if it's me or not but it's definitely going to take some time to get adjusted. The "i" shape pill hole is more noticeable from the notch. Just stare at it for 30 seconds without moving your eyes away. You will see. However, change is good.

It’s so weird and asymmetrical! Me no likey:rolleyes:

Given that neither the few additional pixels “above” or “between” the cutouts is useable, I’m not sure I really understand the benefit of the change other than change itself. Somebody help me. What am I missing?

its more of a refreshed look, slimmer bezels and more screen. not much a noticeable amount. its progression towards no cut outs at all

Personally when the notch came out on iPhone X I was little confused by the design. My thought was "what is this"?
But now the design has grown on me, and it never bothers me. The notch has been an icon over the last couple of years in the market.

Also security, I take the iconic notch with fast and reliable face-id any day in the week instead of unreliable face-id or touch-id.

If you ask me the notch design looks better than the hole and the pill. Its more esthetic and clean in a way, even if its bigger.
