I want one with new buttefly keys and per-key LED lighting and built in force touchpad on the side. No numpad.

If it indeed is a power button, the most it could do is wake/sleep or power down. Can't boot a dead computer unless apple released boot on Bluetooth firmware.

I hate reaching in the back of my Mac mini.

Interestingly it doesn't use the San Francisco font like "the new MacBook" does. You can tell as the edges of the M on the new Macbook are vertical, but aren't on this.

Our 15" MBP is from 2008, so finally looking to replace it this year. Without taking this too off topic, it will be interesting to see what happens with that come the summer. As they now do the Air, the new Macbook, and the MBP, I had thought maybe the MBP might get a redesign to slim it down more in line with the MBA. but since they updated the 13" but not the 15" now, I can't imagine them redesigning the 15" MBP, as that would mean four different styles of laptop.

No, I'm sure the 15" will get the latest Intel processors and Force Touch and that's it. :)

I do wonder what backlighting will do to battery life . . .

so how long would the batteries last with a wireless backlit keyboard?

That makes two
bluetooth firmware + making the keyboard with removable USBC/Lightning cable so it can over wireless or wired.

which should have a built in battery that should get plenty of life and perhaps they can reshape the keyboard to be a bit more ergonomic.

Please make its batteries rechargeable, ideally using the same cable as Apple Watch.

its not like apple to fudge something like this without an explanation...i figure they would have pulled images or updated the page by now

Because the eject key makes no sense on the wireless keyboard? It's outdated. It performs the same task as the power button on a MacBook and Apple have clearly been pushing disk drives out for ages now. A power button in place of an eject button makes far more sense, to me.

Well, I don't think a power button makes much more sense on a wireless keyboard, either--unless Apple changes something, it can't actually transmit power-on signals to the computer. (Even the wired one would be difficult to do that with; Apple used ADB instead of USB the last time they did have a power key on the keyboard.)

The Eject key also always been somewhat useful as a power button if the computer is already on--I don't think that's unique to the MacBook without an optical drive. Ctrl+Eject will show the shut down/sleep/restart dialog, Cmd+Opt+Eject will put the computer directly to sleep (that's a combo I use all the time), and there are a few other combos as well. The most I could see this doing is eliminating the need for at least one of those modifier keys.

This is pretty terrible if true.. Apple makes it seem like the new MacBook is paving a way with a new chiclet designed keyboard.. but they keep going forward with the old style? So now if you use both the old and new together, it feels weird and inconsistent going between the two? This is very unlike Apple.. Steve would never do this (First time i've actually said and thought this).

IT IS NOT BACKLIT ITS BACKLIGHT

big difference

A proper backlight in a Apple Keyboard wouldn't be that far of a reach on the rumor scale.

However, I suspect that this may have been a mistake by a graphic designer working on the Czech and Hungary web sites. I doubt they actually take photos of their hardware. The images they use are almost all renders. There have been render mistakes spotted on Apple's various web sites before. Just saying -- this could actually just be a rumor.

The fact that it is grey on white keys and not black keys is suspicious to me. They haven't used light colored keys with their backlight products since the Powerbook days, I don't think.

Sorry - I'm obtuse. What is the difference between a backlit keyboard and a keyboard with a backlight? Thanks.

That's not exactly true. Apple briefly had a power key on their USB keyboard: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/TS2222

They did it by violating the USB standard, I believe, and adding an extra pin to the keyboard.

You're right! I forgot the iMac G3 keyboard still had a power button. Of course, now that they're making computers that barely even have USB ports, their options may be more limited. :)

Can someone explain the difference between the new f5/f6 key vs the regular brightness keys? Are they different light sources?

The regular ones are screen brightness, the ones that have appeared are keyboard brightness

the images in the links have now eject buttons...
but a USB-C version of the wired keyboard, perhaps with built-in battery, could be able to turn on a mac?

While a backli(gh)t keyboard for most part is just "bling" in my office, I definitely would replace my Apple wireless keyboard with one, I use a Logitech wireless illuminated keyboard (K800, although the wired K740 was a tad better for typing imho, although nowhere close to the Apple wireless keyboard) and the light is neat, having the Apple keyboard light up like that would look pretty neat.

Black keys would be nice, they'd go much better with the thunderbolt display (and iMacs) and also match the current MacBook lineup. And eventually a space grey aluminum casing would be neat.... oh well.

How about... a backlit wireless keyboard? Now THAT would be news, not this.
