This is probably going to happen soon. To get developer adoption they need a way to test force touch without buying a new laptop, especially when developers are more likely to use big laptops and desktops.

We'll probably see it at WWDC.

I wonder when Unity 3D will support Taptic and Force Touch... I see a huge amount of potential for this with games.

Just get the logitech K811. I have had it for about 9 months now and LOVE it. Backlit, can easily switch to my iPad with the push of a button.

That keyboard is the devil! It will randomly stop pairing. Most of the negative reviews are for this reason, and I unfortunately am one of the people affected by it.

Really, I am a power user, on my machine for 9+ hours a day and never had a single issue. In fact, that is why I went with this one. I was always dropping my Apple keyboard connection. I quit using my mighty mouse for the same reason.

WHY ARE THE KEYS STILL WHITE??????

We need new keyboards just like the new MacBook, in the 3 colors, with BLACK keys, butterfly switches, individual LEDs, better battery life/rechargeable.

AND I WANT ONE WITH A 10-KEY KEYPAD!

Perhaps the power button is for the lights on the keyboard itself. Then it could save power when used in a lighted area where the backlight isn't needed.

holding the Dim down button would do this... pointless to double up functionality.

I think the power button is just a sleep button.

Stick it on the Wish list on the unity forums.. but my guess if the api is open for it in xCode. someone will get an asset out for it.

Probably won't appear in native Unity until the iPhone 6s if it has Force and Taptic.

It is not an easy implementation.

What makes Touch ID so secure on the iPhone is the Secure Element, something not present on Macbooks.

If the TouchID data is going to live in the keyboard (rather than the computer) Apple could put their own controller in there. The keyboard probably already uses some dinky ARM for the controller, and Apple could whip up a design based on that plus whatever the TouchID needs, and fab it at some really cheap node like 130nm.

This would work fine for laptops, and even for desktops how often do you change your keyboard?

A backlit Apple wireless keyboard would be great. We need a backlit Magic Mouse too.

They may give us a force press magic mouse. I'm not a fan of that thing but it does have potential

God likes Apple's really crappy mice?

Yeah they do need to work on mice more. Magic mouse was a good attempt to make use of multitouch but usability was not good

I've been using a Logitech K800, wireless, backlit KB for several years (even made the migration from PC to Mac). I love it, but I've been keeping an eye out for a replacement.

I don't need a keypad (I think that's probably the majority of users now[?]), but I'd prefer a "tenkeyless" style, i.e., the extra paging and full sized arrows keys.

Big arrow keys.

BIG ONES.

:D

I use the Logitech "solar" wireless keyboard. Gotta say, it's fantastic. It's always charged (just room lighting does the trick), key pad, great feel, comes in silver or black. My dad purchased one and I kind of laughed, until I tried it. Then, my teen son got one, and then I followed suit. Dumped my Apple wireless for this one...worth every cent.

a black keyboard, with backlit keys, and a built in battery with a USBC or Lightning charging cable that is removable so its either wired or wireless.

Would still like a delete key and the CD Eject button is in just the right place. If they could make it configurable between power off and delete that would be lovely

Invest in a couple sets of rechargable ones, like Eneloops.

They'll still eventually go into the trash, even though these last 1,500 recharge cycles.

I have no problem plugging in a cable. Looks are not important for my computer set up.

So, I only use batteries when I have no cable alternative.

I will check out Eneloops for my trackpad though.

That's the UK layout for the return key or "Enter key" as we call it.

Are you sure you call it the "Enter" key? ;) I'm from the US, and I do too, but that's because PCs (well, Windows, at least) don't distinguish between Return and Enter--but the Mac actually does. Return is next to the letters on the keyboard, whereas Enter is over by the numeric keypad (on the keyboards without, like the one pictured, I think Fn+Return functions as Enter--or is it Opt+Return?).

Anyway, I'm having a hard time imagining how this keyboard could be anything besides a graphic design error, but there was clearly so much effort and perfection put into these images that I'd have a hard time believing that. But I still can't imagine what a power key would be doing on a wireless keyboard (especially when the keyboard's own is still in the regular spot).

Do you have trouble pressing all the other keys which are a lot smaller than our return key?

Nothing to do with the keyboard, but I absolutely love your avatar. It makes me smile every time I see. It is so whimsical and absurd at the same time. Just perfect.

Seems like a neat, logical update. Probably won't go straight out and buy one, it's just a wireless keyboard. Plus it'll probably just mean the battery will run down as fast as the wireless Trackpad does.

Because the eject key makes no sense on the wireless keyboard? It's outdated. It performs the same task as the power button on a MacBook and Apple have clearly been pushing disk drives out for ages now. A power button in place of an eject button makes far more sense, to me.

It worked great for me for about 6 months. Then it unpaired, so i paired it again and it worked for another month. Now it will not pair at all :(
