Last I saw stats wise a fairly decent backlog of orders for the iPhone existed in Japan thru the end of August with shipping dates into the September. Not sure if the type of backlog still exists or if ordered but unshipped/delivered phones count in the rankings folks are looking at.

Looking at http://bcnranking.jp/category/subcategory_0010.html it looks like the iPhone is currently at #2 for the week of Sept. 14th (for this store tracker).

Well, there you have it:

Sure, for a few weeks. Now it's well down the charts.

ew

not cute. makes me love my iPhone even more. thank you Apple for raising the bar. iPhone remains untouchable!!!:apple:

You morons, read the article. Microsoft didn't design it. They aren't manufacturing it. They're re branding an OEM product, loading on their software and apparently plan on marketing it to teens.

They haven't themselves copied Palm. And they're not aiming for a high-price phone like the iPhone.

They chose the device as the one they're going to make their phone. They didn't design it, but it can hardly be said Microsoft isn't copying Palm.

It's fatter than the Pre because it has a more bloated O/S. :D

True, however, it's been in and out of the weekly top 10 since launch. The 32GB version is doing reasonably well but, as you mention, it seems most of this appears to be backlog driven and it would be interesting to see fresh demand - BCN's surveys are driven by sales I believe and it's reasonable to assume that the up and down nature of the iPhone's sales are due to product availability.

Do you have links for the August overall placing or GFK's data?

Makes no difference. What you put your logo on is a reflection of the company that owns the logo. As far as the public is concermed, it's a Microsoft phone.

"And it comes from saying no to 1,000 things to make sure we don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much. We’re always thinking about new markets we could enter, but it’s only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important."

Hmm. Underneath my Macbook would cost you about $2,000 from HP. Why don't you shop first?

While you're at it, you may want to tell Vista to ALLOW a social life.

I would but I don't own a PC, just a virtual box on my Unibody Aluminum Macbook Pro. I am not a MS fanboy, I am a Mac user, I just am not a fool to the obvious.

I can say that about 95% of our PC population here (over 15,000 computers) are solid.

Our mac population is around 2000 and its around 85%-90%.

Most of our Mac issues are distorted video, no power, or not waking from sleep.

Most our PC problems are bad HDD or client abuse.

Do you want a cookie?

I don't deal with quite the deployment you do (about 1,000 now for me) but we've had a ton of problems with HP laptops. Their service is quite lacking in comparison to Lenovo as well, which is who we've switched to for laptops. Thinkpads are far better machines than any business HP laptop, IMO.

Personal anecdotes. We both have them.

MSoft

The thing that gets me, is that MSoft has been heading slowly but surely int hardware in recent years, and as much as they rip off Apple, you'd think they would at least attempt to rip them off right. But the Zune looks nothing like the XBox, looks nothing like this new pink thing looks nothing like the fold-out booklet thingie. Nobody can look at something and say "Oh, hey! that's the new MSoft POS!" If they really wanted to start slapping their name on hardware, it seems like they would want folks to recognize it instantly. But rather it seems like they are just cranking out hardware because they feel like they have to, not because they think they have a great idea or because it makes good business sense or because it's something they are good at. Oh well, I guess that's just MSoft.

looks alot like palm pre. microsoft get your own **** together, instead of stealing others

But that's not their buisiness model.

Their buisiness model is:

1) Shove everybody else out of the market, or buy them out.
2) Re-introduce the exact same previously used designs, with an "innovative" spin. Take credit for the design.
3) Repeat step 1.

Top Ten Reasons:

1) Public attention

2) Sympathy

3) An attempt to garner trust (this has sucked all along, and now, even I'm willing to admit this)

4) Stir up a buzz

5) Set the stage for a big change: "Windows Mobile has been a stinker for years now and Microsoft had better bust out the big guns to get it right with WinMo 7."

6) Downplay the magnitude of change "We've seen a few promising bits [and] previews of Windows Mobile, notably the browser in the Zune HD (it's not perfect, but it bodes well")

7) Developers

8) Developers

9) Developers

10) Developers.....

Ballmer: Apple won’t dominate the smartphone market

More Balmmerisms dissing the iPhone, and smartphone market.

Ick. It's bad enough they make crappy looking software, now they need to make crappy looking phones?

Gosh, another "still born" MicroSoft device.

If one is to look for another software cum phone manufacturer that is stalling check Google's G1. How many people have you seen using that one?

As a previous owner of a SSNG Blackjack, I can recall with less than fond memories the clumsiness of the Microsoft's Windows Mobile, as ridiculous at Microsoft seems in a desktop, the minimization of its software actually amplifies its inadequacies. Oh well, hope Microsoft's retail store goes the way of Gateway's failed retail adventure.

You mean Android ? G1 was the codename of Google's developer phone. The platform now has deals with Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HTC, LG and others to produce phones (many already on the market). Sprint is now getting Android, Verizon is getting Android and of course they launched on T-mobile a while ago, putting them on 3 of the 4 biggest carriers in the state.

In China, 2 of the 3 biggest carriers are going to design platforms around Android (CPhone and OPhone).

Stalling ? They're in full swing.

Finally saw the Android phone for Verizon; kinda meh, not as nice as the SE you posted. I'll probably still get it though. I wish Verizon would get the Sony.
