Looks like the OLED strip has the TouchID sensor in its screen, so they found a way to include TouchID without the aluminium ring. This is sooooo exciting, since this technology will likely be found in the new iPhone! I'm really interested how they achieved this :)

If you look closer the Touch ID "Square" is separate from the display and probably isn't a display itself. Also they can remove the metal ring because the Touch ID button will only ever be used when you're unlocking the computer or making a purchase. It doesn't need a metal ring to detect a finger, it'll just turn on and wait for your touch when it needs to in those two situations.

Look a bit closer at the picture without apple pay/finger. There is a black ring and a gradient difference. Looks to be a completely separate component from the OLED bar, with a square ring. Who know tho.

Edit: Looks like u/timshundo beat me to it.

If you zoom in a bit, it's clear that the TouchID portion of the screen is a different colour and is separated from the rest of the screen. There is a clear divide between it and the rest of the display, meaning that Apple likely hasn't figured out how to incorporate TouchID into an OLED display yet. Sorry.

L I expected a much more drastic design change since it's been pretty much the same for the last four years. Can't say that I'm extremely surprised they're keeping it the same but I'm sure will see some color choices.

Hmmm. Just cutting down the speaker grills is going to make the footprint so much smaller. Maybe 1/2 inch on both sides. But, is it enough to leave my 2012 MBP with no name on the front. It's going to have to be amazing. I have a RMB so I'm good with a small portable computer. The pro has to be super powerful.

Well...that is extremely underwhelming. Touch ID is nice, but the screen looks identical to the current model. Same bezel, likely same resolution. I was hoping for a smaller footprint or a larger display...but we get neither.

Also, I really hope they have improved switches in the butterfly keyboard that don't get stuck every other week like my current rMB.

There's clearly an area that *is* for Touch ID, on the very right side of the OLED panel. There's a small area that is colored differently, and that the arrow is pointing to.
