It has got to the point where apple don't know what to do anymore, I don't see why they could'nt add a touchscreen that would have been so awesome

This is very dissapointing, I think the "Think Different" thing at apple has been taken way out of context, this really isolates pro users that use function keys and esc key, also i think the speakers at the side of the keyboard look ugly!! Glad i bought the last macbook pro and had a product that had Steve's influence, in the 1998 keynote when Jobs returned to apple, he said the priority was to make things better over different, it seems to me the latest products are not making things overall better but isolating core users by removing good functionality. For the first time ever im not excited about an apple event. And as for the butterfly keyboard mechanism, uggh...

It's 2016. Steve's not around any longer. Move on.

There's never been such a thing as a 'Pro user' anyway. Everyone uses a device for their particular needs. The function keys are still going to be there, you will be able to choose what the bar displays. The bar will also give you a ton of new options and features, some of which your "Pro" software will be able to take advantage of if the developer thinks outside the box.

I find it hilarious and slightly sad that you have already decided that there is no way the esc key and function row will come back in any shape, way or form more than a day before the actual Macbook is announced....

Right now the older keyboards still work just fine after 5+ years.
The newer ones already have been showing some easier wear and tear with my family members.
How are these butterfly keys? Will they last a couple of years only?
I am looking to buy a system that will last me 5+ years, not 2.
There seem to be a growing number of Apple products designed to fail in a short period of time. The iPhone 6 for example.

If this sort of thing is happening more and more, how can Apple products seriously be called "premium"?

I'm surprised Apple didn't put the MacRumors logo in line with the 'enter' and 'return' keys. Along with these images they really are slacking nowadays... :p
Yeah, they claim to be able to protect user data, but they can't even protect their own. It's laughable.

I love my Retina Macbook for being so thin and light. It's exactly what I need in an ultraportable.

But the compromises on keyboard comfort and lack of Magsafe that I tolerate on an ultraportable just don't make sense on a full-size machine...

I feat this is going to be one (small) step forward, two steps back.

meh. After this long, they needed to introduce some groundbreaking features. These are just incremental. This would have been impressive a few years ago, but at this stage, I think people are going to be underwhelmed.

I cringe at how they will try to sell the OLED bar at the keynote.

Don't get me wrong. All fine features. Just not enough for as long as we have waited.

It's a lot higher than 5%. Yesterdays results had it at 12% of revenue or $26 billion for the last quarter. I'm sure even the mighty Apple would notice the loss of over £100 billion a year in revenue.

Screen-Shot-2016-10-25-at-4.35.55-PM.jpg

While I am sure Apple would never consider discontinuing their Macs (even if Macs are lossing money), the percentage that the Macs provide for Apple is a lot less than what that revenue chart shows you. I would imagine the profit margin is around 50% for iphones and maybe 10% for Macs (including cost for R&D, marketing etc), making Macs' contribution to Apple's total profit even lower.
I think this is one of the reason why Apple has been reluctant to update their Macs. Using older hardwares (haswell cpu...) makes a much bigger margin than newest and greatest hardwares. Despite outdated hardware Macs have been selling really well until earlier this week, it is hard for Apple to decide to put all the money into R&D and promotion then have lower profit margins than before.

But even 1% of Apple's revenue is worth more than most companies' total equity.

Of course there are Pro users, those that are willing to shell out thousands of $$$ on software and hardware and need adequate computer to run all of it. You know, those thousands of dollars trash bins Apple sells that actually have proper cooling and will not melt down your GPU like iMac or MBP are closest you can get for your Pro needs.

I get your irony but it's not progress to replace all ports with usb-c and require adapters.

It is actually. There will always be a transitional period. But in 2016 how many USB devices do people actually use? And buying a cheap adapter for a few £ won't do any harm. If you spend £1500 or more on a computer then a few £ for a replacement cable or two and a few adapters shouldn't hurt anyone. I'm all for progress and will happily accept USB-C only hardware.

There will be a way that the Courage Bar has a default mode set in Firmware/ROM that has the ESC, F keys and Power button displayed and effective by default unless told otherwise by software.

OLED bar is an afterthought. Unless each key has capacity to change its function don't call it innovation. But there is already something like that

But they have the courage to add the OLED bar

:p

In all honesty, I'm not sold on it, but I'll wait until tomorrow to cast my final opinion on it. There may be many things we don't know what it can or cannot do.

theres nothing called a professional user

I really think all the keys WILL change....

Why else does the image have gradients on them like the OLED bar.. yet Delete, Space, Enter etc etc are solid with no gradient...?

I'm very excited.
Looks very neat and much improved.
One design aspect that I really like is that it has Mac Book Pro printed on the bezel (again).
I absolutely hate it when they removed it from current MBP,and always felt it looked in-complete and generic without the brand name.

now let's hope it has good base specs and the compromise on ports is not too aggressive.

Nope, never has been. 'Pro' or 'Professional' user is just a made up term and means nothing. Everyone is a 'user' with their own specific needs.

Can anyone define what a 'Pro' user even is? Some people believe it means someone who requires a powerful machine to do their work or it may refer to content creators. Ultimately, it really means nothing and it's embarrassing that people still use this nonsense term.

There are some lunatics out there who still think the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are machines designed specifically for the 'Pro' users out there. I don't know what these people are on, but I'd like to try some of what they are having.

Apple wanted to differentiate their computer lines, the MacBook for students and some home users, and the MacBook Pro for those that wanted a more powerful option

The Delete, Space, Enter etc etc are flat keys while all the other keys are concave, they reflected the light in the photo/rendering while the flat keys have yeah a flat light on them

Who goes through the thousands of images and text lines in each OS release to see if there is anything they can find?
