I thought the idea was to go bezel-less and full screen? Which is why Apple went with the notch. It's not a bad looking phone, but defeats the purpose if you have bezel both above and below.

I never liked the camera placement on the Samsung phones, it diminishes the design (and that goes for the iPhone camera bump as well) but I'm sure there will be a lot of Android fans who like it, and will buy the phone.

Oh yeah, and then comes the litany of who has the better camera videos and comparison articles which get old real quick. Not looking forward to that.

2018 and they still have ugly bezels at the top and bottom

I don't understand why folks are so afraid of a tiny bezel these days. It's such a minor, nit-picky detail.

I guess phones have reached such a performance plateau that we have to turn to something so trivial as a barely noticeable bezel just to complain about something.

When phones someday go completely bezel-less and satisfy some people's obsessive fashion sense or whatever, I wonder what we will complain about next? I suppose the next logical step would be to remove any and all ports on the phone so its just a casing and screen with no holes in the device anywhere so people can say 'it's 2019 and this phone still has a USB port on the bottom, embarassing'... Geeze. Who the hell cares.

I wonder if Samsung will get the same criticism as Apple did for carrying forward the same design case from previous years' models.

To be fair, Samsung has only recycled this design once. The (minor) criticism that apple faced was recycling it for the third time

It's always a vocal minority - most people loved the 6-8 series designs, no complaints.

Samsung was one of the first to get near bezel-less design right last year so a credit to them too.

I just hope something can be done about that bixby button....Ugh

Let's be honest here, if Apple didn't exist, these phones would be pretty darn enticing. It's a good thing Apple came out with the iPhone X when they did. I think these Shamesung phones look quite amazing, although the placement of the cameras and fingerprint sensor is insanely stupid - people are still going to be smearing their greasy fingers all over the cameras.

Yeah for me that stuff isn’t of importance. It’s kind of crazy that to me there’s no competition that can win me over. Apple’s ecosystem, products, design and features are just stellar for my needs.

Agree with all that, and I will add that Apple's Customer Service is one of the best! That is another reason for me to stay in my Apple eco-system.

Ugly, same as the last one. Won’t beat Apple in performance, security, privacy, apps, ecosystem, and support. To top it all off, runs android. I’d certainly give competition a look if it challenged Apple in any of those ways, but Samsung isn’t even trying. I think Google and the Pixel line is the next best thing to an iPhone.

RE: "Rumors suggest the Galaxy S9 will feature a single 12-megapixel camera with variable aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4, while the S9+ will feature the same variable aperture 12-megapixel camera paired with a second 12-megapixel camera with a fixed aperture."

Now that's true innovation in a smartphone !

Agreed. Someone tried to sell me on the idea their Samsung camera was better than their boyfriends iPhone. They were comparing a Galaxy S8 to an iPhone 6S.

Honestly, whenever the flagship phones (latest iPhone against latest Samsung Galaxy) do a comparison of photos, if there weren't labels, I don't think I could reliably tell you which photo I liked more.

It's not like we're comparing a really poor photo with a 1mp webcam to a DSLR...
