I'm not a huge fan. Still waiting for 4K screens to become standard (Galaxy X?)

Currently my Galaxy S6 edge+ is a fantastic device and I haven't been overly impressed by any recent flagship (with the possible exception of Note8).

Interested in seeing how much Samsung gets lambasted for “lack of innovation.”

Never understood that either. The galaxy line from the start has always been the latest technology demonstrator, even if gimmicky.

Well, I’m not happy with the way Apple has treated its customers. The iPhone slow down had my iPhone 6s delaying keyboard inputs by up to a three-second delay. I had bought the 7, but I returned it within the 15-day-return window. I decided the 7 wasn’t different enough from my 128GB 6s. My 6s got so slow, I had to upgrade and decided on the X. I am so disappointed with this device.

It’s ugly to look at with an asymmetrical design due to the notch. It’s a pain to use FaceID about 25% of the time, and everyone except supermodels look stupid holding it up to their face for it to open. TouchID is just a dream. I have been screwed over by Apple trying to get the $29 battery replacement. Both of my MacBook Pros have keyboard problems (2016). Apple appears to have left the WiFi products behind which made all Apple products just work. AppleTV gives me HDCP problems since I switched to the 4K model, and I have bought every cable up to the $49 ones trying to get it to work. Let’s face it, Apple has been selling us bad products that are poorly designed and they are intentionally doing things to software to slow down our products and going so far as to we have to get new top case to replace a stuck command key???

What’s next? I have a Galaxy S8, using an iPhone X, but bought an iPhone 8 to replace it. So frustrated. So confused what has happened to Apple. It feels like a money grab with executives taking as much as they can out of the company before they retire. That is exactly what I see happening.

I am a longtime Apple and AAPL fan, and I am so disappointed by what I have seen in the last three years. My beloved Apple is no more. Thank God for competition, but what I really want isn’t out there. A group of young focused entrepreneurs, that are programmers to make some major discovery and create a new OS that works on any platform, then create hardware that just works, and support the end user like no other. People who have a “vision” like the late Steve Jobs.

Or, if only Apple would buy Tesla, and place Elon Musk at the head of the company would probably be the only way to right this ship. Sorry for saying it, but the current leadership has no focus on the customers. In fact, they’re all so focused on their own agendas, I’m surprised they put out the AirPods which in my opinion is the only Apple product worth buying at the moment.

Buyer beware...

I think this is just bad luck. For the past 8 years I bought quite a few Apple products and I had only one minor problem with the Apple TV 4th generation. I went to the store, they gave me a new one and that's it.

Lay your phone down and it rests on one sticking out corner, on the camera face. All the excuses in the world can't make that a good design.

Totally agree. They could've made the phone just a smidge thicker and given us a larger battery.

Are we looking at the same picture?

Yes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Anybody know why Samsung uses Snapdragon in the U.S. and a different processor everywhere else?

It’s. to do with the way Samsung builds its devices in regards to wireless radio support, in the U.K. we get the Exynos processors as they support our bands on a Samsung devices, in the US you get Snapdragon. Of course this is only Samsung who does this, other android phones in the U.K. has the same Snapdragon processors as the US models and they work fine.

Yeah for me that stuff isn’t of importance. It’s kind of crazy that to me there’s no competition that can win me over. Apple’s ecosystem, products, design and features are just stellar for my needs.

Yes, and moreover for me, it's family wide. 4 family members with 4 phones, 3 pads using same software purchase etc.

I don’t think I could ever use a Samsung phone as a daily driver from my experiences with friends phones. But as someone expecting my next iPhone to be X-style I’m quite jealous of the look of the S9’s screen. The rectangular “infinity” screen just looks so much nicer than having the notch cut out, no matter if you get used to it or not.

Flush camera lens.
Apple take note.
Put a case on and it impacts the image with no bump. Don’t believe me? Try it sometime. Better to have a small bump so the lens isn’t obscured by the case. Looks like the picture is being taken in a hole.

Apple has the bump on purpose, no doubt. The SE might be flush...not sure. I’ve personally had a Galaxy with a case that takes bad pictures because the case creates a shadow.

They've also had AMOLED phones since 2012. At this point there is very little left they can do to improve on the design. Whats the point of faster phones these days anyways? Benchmark gloating rights?

This. Every year, smart phones increasingly become faster and more powerful, but does that translate to how the user really uses their smart phone any differently than they did the previous generation? Most use their iPhones or smart phones for simple tasks like social media, YouTube, Safari games, etc. They're not really utilizing all the power these phones are capable of to begin with.

Where smart phones really need to impress the user is through the software experience. That's what makes the difference, the average consumer doesn't care about how fast their phone is every single year.

To be fair, Samsung has only recycled this design once. The (minor) criticism that apple faced was recycling it for the third time.
Samsung has been using the same design since S6, design of everything apart from the screen. For example, the side frame shape is the same as S6, the shape of camera lens etc. It's the same design again.

While we are at it, why not 8K or 16K screen resolution?

Samsung may catch up with Apple someday. But not today.
you are just living in the past :D I'm not a Android user, but I really find similar comments funny. When did you have a top Android device in you pocket and what did you miss so bad?

5.8 is pretty small since its not as wide as phones used to be.

I’m an average sized guy. And I feel like the X is too small for me. Some guys talk about how the X is too big for their hands. And all I can think is how small are your hands? lol

Some people actually prefer that to the notch...

I want to say that I had an X for five weeks and the notch didn't bother me. *However,* it seemed, and still seems, like an odd design choice. I prefer the mini-bezels on this Samsung. Maybe it's just the visual symmetry. The only thing worse than a bezel is a half-width bezel masquerading as no bezel.

I think we've finally reached a point with smartphones that the market is mature and obvisously people don't feel the need to update their phones every year. I feel this is why Apple and Samsung haven't exactly been releasing wowfactor features every year. As I learnt in marketing, the smartphone market has reached the mature stage.

Why is this piece of junk even getting a mention on this site?

Close-mindedness like this is what gives a lot of diehard Apple fans a bad name. A simple 'naw, not really my thing' would suffice. Calling the phone 'junk' is ridiculous.

The reality is the smartphone market is mature enough that any flagship phone from a major manufacturer is an amazing device. They all have great displays, great cameras, big batteries, and great software - yes even Android, it's not the buggy mess of the past as most blind haters want to keep believing. Some folks just refuse to give credit where due. Some of the key features of the holy grail iPhone X (like OLED display, wireless charging, etc) were all features on Samsung phones for years. I guess we can pretend that Apple did it first and the 'junk' phones were copying Apple?

Looks quite similar to the previous model. Would be nice if they got rid of the top and bottom chins entirely.
