Initial impressions on iPad 1

Wow!
Takes a few seconds to load, but once loaded its perfectly responsive.
Just played with the instruments, not with recording yet.
Oh well, my productivity is screwed for the rest of the day. :)

Does garageband work with the griffin guitar connection cable? How's it working on iPad1?:)

GLITCH;

I already own iMovie yet its not showing up under updates. When I try to manually repurchase it, I'm prompted to install 4.2.6... And I'm on an att iPhone 4.. WTF?

Has anyone tested GB on an existing iPad (iPad 1)?

I'm curious to know how well it performs.

it works 100% and it's awesome. I can't wait to see how much better it works with ipad 2 - but with ipad 1, there's no lag (just slow loading but not even that slow).

everything works even when you tap hard, it will play hard!

Piano support? CoreMIDI?

While we know that you can plug in a guitar via an accessory plugged into the Dock Connector, can you do the same with a MIDI piano?

I recall iOS 4 introducing CoreMIDI and apps becoming available that support it. Is this the case with GarageBand?

I also didn't see an upgrade through my app list so i clicked on itunes store and it brought up the update, this was on my mac btw

So the new iMovie is NOT a paid upgrade even though I can't see it in the Updates section of App Store?

There's now an update for iphone4/ipod touch retina. I still don't see why they can't put imovie on the ipad 1, the walkthrough video clearly states you can edit videos also shot on your iphone 4 or ipod touch, just put a big notice on the app store page for original ipad owners letting them know the app doesn't magically add a camera to their ipad 1. the ipod touch has the same amount of ram and a slower clocked a4 than the ipad 1 so don't tout specs as the reason.

Update to iOS 4.3.

Phil

No iMovie for iPad 1?
Grrrr.....just because I don't have a camera doesn't mean I don't have videos to edit on there...

Did you update to 4.3 yet? If not, that will probably fix it.

Can anyone with an iPad and Garageband tell me if Garageband for iPad accepts MIDI input from a keyboard? I've been looking around online and on Apple's website and I can't seem to find any references about it. It just seems to mention plugging in a guitar.

Sorry, I don't remember where I read it. But I did read that a reviewer successfully plugged in a "USB keyboard" and played it in GarageBand! I don't know if it was necessarily MIDI or what, but that's encouraging. :)

How does the touch sensitivity work? ie tap hard and it plays louder?

The screen isn't pressure sensitive is it? so presumably it just works on the fact that the surface area in contact with the screen is greater when you tap harder?

but what about people with fat fingers?

so does iMovie allow me to pull a video off my P&S camera via camera connection kit, edit it in iMovie and upload it to Flickr, youtube, mobile me?

or do I need to use the iPads camera or sync a movie through iTunes?

Uses the accelerometer.

I just did a little more digging and I saw this article:
http://www.macworld.com/article/158451/2011/03/garageband.html

Pretty interesting read. And it mentions using an m-audio USB keyboard. So at least it sounds like there are options for connecting more than just a guitar.

iRig and Midi

Ok, quick go on original ipad + Garageband. iRig works (think amplitude might need to lower their prices for their apps!). Akai LPK25 USB keboard + camera connection kit works. This is going to be fun!

Garageband for the iPhone PLEEEEASEEEEEE .

That would be mega super cool.
