There are no more flagships at $700, except the Xiaomi, whose business model allows for affordable such prices.
But what I mean is the iPhone 7 was the flagship at $649, the 7 plus at $749. Paying this much money, people are used to getting the best iPhone and that's no longer the case. I would imagine that diverts many to the XS or makes them reconsider whether they need a new phone or should wait a while and save up for the XS.

This is how I feel, I am on an iPhone 7 and even as a monthly payment the XS phones seem like massive amounts of money. I tried the Xr and liked it a lot but not £800 enough if it had had 3D touch and a 1080 LCD/OLED I think I would have kept it, but I did feel a little cheated, even though it is a good screen at the resolution it is.
I probably will be a second hand iphone buyer now, luckily there are lots of them on the market! buying a second hand one every 3 4 years is about what I want to spend on a phone monthly rate wise.

Marques Brownlee said something like the 10S E from Samsung was a better option than the XR, and one thing that matters is the screen res compared to what Apple did with the XR... You could go and check it.

Apple fans are not happy to see not the top notch tech on new phones, cpu is not everything nowadays...

I see this is another "Gee George, it's not 1080P" thread LOL. I think that's the only thing people can say bad about the XR. I'm pretty sure if it was 1080P they would say "but it's not 4K" LOL

CPU may not be everything but a smooth experience is more important to me than a slightly better screen (I find the screen on the XR perfectly acceptable).

In terms of "market value", do you mean resale value?

Buying an XR now and hoping to sell it one or two years down the road may not get you your expected return. It really depends if Apple decides to reduce the price and keep it around. Apple has yet to do that with any X series phone, so we don't now.

In terms of power and usability, the XR will work well for four years.

Instead of worrying about resale value, the better move is increasingly holding on to your phone for three years, then trading it in to Apple for whatever residual value it has. I guess you may be able to get a bit more by selling on Ebay or whatever, but the hassle may not be wort it.

No 1080p screen for a large 6.1 inch display being a huge sticking point for 2019
In addition, I'd urge you to check out the Xr screen at normal brightness before deciding.
The price especially outside the US is brutal!
In UK, Galaxy S10 and Xr cost the same.

I buy off gumtree now and either keep it or flip them, my current XR I got new for $529 below retail, and just use sim only plans.

I don’t think the S10e can be compared to the XR. The XR offers a larger display for starters. It’s not as compact either. The XS is a better comparison imo.

Both have at least FHD OLED screens with HDR, dual cameras, 4 or more GBs of RAM, and are compact relative to their respective siblings.

Neck to neck, I would go S10e on price alone over the XS.

I was flirting with the idea of buying an iPhone XR for a family member but after watching some YouTube videos I’m having serious doubts.

If you look at the competition (such as the Galaxy S10e), is the iPhone XR quickly starting to feel like a relic of the past in some ways given its premium price?

What's not to like about paying $749.00, plus tax for a phone in 2019 that has the same pixel density of an iPhone 4 that was released in 2010?

Where is the moderation on this forum. Do we need 100's of threads about the same topic?

As an Xr real world user I can tell you one piece of advice which might prevent 100 more threads on the same topic - go to an apple store and try them yourself. I did. Walked in wanting an XS walked out with an Xr. I can afford most things in life so bore off with your affordability arguments. Screen is awesome too.

With a monsoon of respect, what else is there to discuss - we just have a Xr and Xs
Not as if there is a new folding phone :p

It is stupid for me to stand in defense of the XR, because all it took for me was one good look at it in the store, and I went for XS Max without any doubt.

All in all, that's all from me, Apple, see you again somewhere in 2020-2021...

Ditto here. It was a no brainer when I was looking at the models. The XS Max is the same dimensions as my 7+ so it was pointless to buy a smaller phone. I also liked the cameras and how it felt. Not to mention the 4 GB or RAM compared to 3 GB which is the same as my 7+

However, the XR is being heavily discounted and marketed now which is interesting.

Android flagships are smooth as iOS nowadays.
So yes, I’m that kind of person that could see the pixels on most laptops back then. For me, screen is the most valuable/important feature of any device that has one.

OP you are talking among XR warriors on this forum and you're not going to get anything but 'XR is just as great as XS'...just get the newer tech I personally don't like the XR because I'd rather a refurbed X. But that 10e seems a lotta tech for the same money as the XR

I don’t think average consumers care about the notch, and I have never been surrounded by anyone that has mentioned it outside this tech site. Now, on a site like MacRumors, these are not your ‘average consumers’, they tend to be more critical of Apples design, functionality and overall implementation of something like the notch. I never cared personally about having an opinion on the notch one way or the other, others like it, others don’t care, but I certainly don’t think it’s that much of an issue at all outside here.

Issues or not to one side, what cannot be denied is that the phone looks uglier with a notch than without. :)

The notch is a blemish. Yeah, the round/pill-shaped cutout on the S10/s10+ is also unsightly but then the "blemish" is smaller in size so it is less ugly and intrusive .

The screen looks great in person that’s all that matters.

Just reading specs is pointless.

I was looking at one and while the panel was nice, someone had taken a bite out of the top of it. I tried another and that someone must have got to it also. I guess, I try finding a good one later.

Well then you are at the mercy of Apple. Apple will never be first to market with any new tech. That’s just how it is.

They were first with the iPhone! Everyone copied it when it came out. Especially Samsung because it was so far ahead.

Unfortunately times have changed and now Apple wait and refine instead of trail blaze.

Give me a notch rather than a S10+ with a 8 plus camera on the front of my phone anyday :)
