I've used both Android phones and iPhones, and prefer iPhones. I can't see spending over $600 on an Android phone.
For a backup line, my Moto G5 plus works fine, and only spent $253 on it. And, except for security updates, it already won't be receiving new OS upgrades.
I also bought an iPhone SE recently for a backup phone, subsidized from ATT, for about $150. An older model than the Moto, and I expect at least 2 more years of OS upgrades.
[doublepost=1551922936][/doublepost]I'm trying to get back to my old pattern of replacing my iPhone every 2 years (which was an easier decision to make when cell phone companies knocked $350 or so off the price in return for a 2 year contract, especially when, if you didn't upgrade, your bill didn't go down anyway).
If something happened with my X, I would probably wait to see what the new models look like this fall. Including whatever replaces the Xr. Since I now have a backup older model iPhone, I would just switch to that phone.
