LOL yeah I figured Pasquale was joshin' me ;) My wife is Northern NM and speaks fluent Castilian Spanish, Catalonian Spanish, Portuguese etc ... her whole family chats away en espanol as it is the "family tongue".

I took French in Highschool (stupid ... SO stupid), so my "education" has been a crash course if you will LOL. Funny story - The first year we were dating, I wanted to compliment my future mother-in-law on her cooking. She really cooks amazing food - Anyhow, I meant to say "Tu eres una muy bueno Cocinera". Well what came out was "Tu eres una muy bueno Cochinera." which here in NM is slang for a slut or good ****. Of course I didn't know this at the time. total silence - you could've sliced the air. Then, you never heard so much laughter directed at me at the dinner table. I will never live that story down lol. Anyhow, as this is PPC related or should be, I want to report that the MRF enriched text editor is working great on this PMG5. No stuttering or lag at all.

Oommmm, didn't you get aware of my mantra about "iFiles" for iOS?
Oh man, I 'm already afraid of straining everyones nerves with this ...
But obviously you make me happy and I can sing this song again ;)
Just load "iFiles", create an AFP-connection to your G5 and voila: you can move everything from everywhere to your G5 and back again...
"Give me a point and i will move the earth!"
[doublepost=1483473196][/doublepost]
First: better get an mSATA with mSATA-IDE-converter instead of that SD-Card hack (if I remember well you use an SD card as your PowerBook's main drive ... )
Second: I would edit the iPhone-video on the iPhone and send it via WhatsApp to myself and it will be downsized within seconds. (Or use the downsized version for iMovie - otherwise it will be overkill)
Third: I would use email or iFile to send the movie to my PowerBook.
I believe, this challenge is going to make the best out of our PPC-experience. A lot of fun to see, whatever works. Not a fence, that keeps us away from thinking beyond the limits of 2009...

This is about the "iFiles" thing... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/is-anyone-here-solely-on-powerpc.2021771/page-2#post-24079834

Y'all never let anything go do you?

I've since replaced the SD card.

Second, getting the file to my PB was no trouble at all. I just used image capture. It was literally editing that nearly killed the computer. I still use my PowerBook and I will say what all still works in my video. But, this is a point that unfortunately hinders me using a G4 in the future.

A couple of sites have moaned about an old version of Safari, so I'm using TFF for those.

In the Leopard WebKit disk image, you will find a shell script called "Update System Certificates". By running that script, it will prevent the warnings you have been getting and you can keep using Leopard WebKit as normal.

The tweak is just for the Messages app. If you're meaning any of the new app like stuff in iOS 10.x, then I wouldn't know. I'm on iOS 9.0.2. The new jailbreak for iOS 10 is very unstable at the moment and my understanding is that it's semi-tethered.

In OS X Yosemite and higher, part of the iCloud Continuity features is that SMS integrates through the iPhone into the OS X Messages app. It is amazing how a simple Jailbreak tweak can bring SMS integration to an OS that is now 10 years old, while Apple just recently introduced that functionality.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a work around for this that does not entail doing anything to the phone?

Personally, I would simply save the video files to a cloud provider like Google Drive and then download right from Drive to your Mac.

Nice to see you randomly show up in here from time to time. :)

It's better to try the challenge and fail because PowerPC doesn't meet your needs than to not try at all. Looking back at how things can change in a couple years, yet also stay the same:

Thanks - I'm glad to see everyone here when I drop by! That's true, but I'd have to transport a PowerPC Mac to college.
[doublepost=1483507532][/doublepost]
I haven't had any issues for the purposes I've put my Macs to. And the MBP I have is little used.

But my usage never seems to be common, either for computers or phones/devices.
[doublepost=1483393905][/doublepost]
Yes, I do use FB. Mainly on my PowerBook. The tweaks I have done to T4Fx allow decent usage for me.

Sometimes it goes south so I usually resort to Safari (still on the PowerBook) to get things done.

I do have a Fluid app for it and a FoxBox but I don't use them much.

How does the Fluid app work? I'm looking for just the messaging aspect, not the content of Facebook. There's this nice desktop application that allows for one to send and receive Facebook messages (not affiliated with Facebook or Facebook's Messenger), and it's nice to have... on Intel machines. I'm hoping something like it could be done on PPC machines.

Good tip, although I've done that when installing. It's things like Google Docs and my online banking (rightly) picking up the Safari 6 identifier from the browser string...

I've watched yor video about using PPC as your main driver. And I've learned from you, how easy it is to access OneDrive and Office-Online through the browser (even with that SD-carddrive ... ;) ) It works much better than the Google-stuff.
How did you capture your movies? Did you wire the iPhone via camera-connection-kit and USB for image-capture? I thought about trying anything like that too using my old 2nd Gen. Canon IXUS from 2002 ... Didn't even think it was possible with the iPhone after the iTunes connection failed badly (which is my reason, to need more than a PPC) ...

I was kinda kidding about the image capture thing. I have an iOS flash drive. I just copied what I needed to it using the Sandisk app and pasted it to the powerbook. No big secret. God did 1080 video stutter though. I wound up filming day 2 in 720 just to try and get easier preview clips.

So I have to admit. I cheated a little bit tonight and used my dad's Intel Mac Mini for a few hours. I was filming a short video with a friend and had to edit it (and quickly), so I asked my dad if I could use his Mac Mini for iMovie. I only did the essentials using that computer; importing, editing, exporting, and uploading the video.

Everything else today has been on my PowerPCs! I've been enjoying using them, fiddling around with a few of mine today was fun especially. I had my Power Mac G4 with two displays, iMac G4, Power Mac G4, PowerBook G4, and an iMac G3 all hooked together with Teleport, so I could control them all in a line using one keyboard and mouse. :D My little brother loved that; I'll try to take a photo tomorrow to show what I've been toying around with for these computers. :) YouTube videos also seem to work fairly decent on the PowerBook G4 and the MDD, so long as it loads a little before starting the video, without much stutter. Every website I've needed has worked like a charm using TenFourFox as well. This challenge could easily become part of my daily life past this week I think, using only my MacBook Air for more strenuous tasks and for things on the go (and let's not forget battery life for my classes at school!). The only downside I think I've noticed with some sites is a little lag, but that's probably mainly because my MDD and PowerBook G4 currently have about half the RAM as they can support. Overall not bad though. :)

Yea great job on keeping it going. Your English is quite good actually. It's better than my Spanish anyhow :)
Thanks man :D I love PowerPC and i will do anything to pass this challenge :)
That's my setup .. FullSizeRender-1.jpg
I dont know why people hate working with G5's .. My G4 works better than mine iMac G5 2GHz.. Even i can play Call Of Duty 2 on High preset :D

Oh, an iOS FlashDrive is a nice gimmick but also more expensive than the iFiles App (currently only 0,99 Euro for the first version).
Especially if considering that I tend to loose tiny stuff like that except if it's fixed at my keychain...
With iFiles I also need only one step to move files from Cloud/CameraRoll to any folder of my PPC.

Using 720p for video-editing should be fine. I used my PowerBook 15" 1,67GHz for capturing/editing/export DV-video. The book was a bit steaming under this task.
The WhatsApp-cheat reduces video to 360p. It is super-fast and quality is decent. I'd start with that size for the first proof of concept...

How does the Fluid app work?
You run the app and it asks you which website you want to make an app out of.

Lets take Google for instance. You give it Google's web address, give the app a name, tell Fluid where to save it and it generates an app that uses Google's home page.

So now you have an app that pops up Google search whenever you open it.

Fluid is just to make indidivual websites into apps where you can simply open the app and interact with the website inside the app.

Battery for my PowerBook DLHR came in yesterday. Will not charge. Left it in overnight, light is amber all night, still no charge. Shame, its a beautiful machine otherwise..

I'm going to sound petty... I just know I am.

I run a YouTube channel with 435 subscribers. I'm trying to get to 500. All of my subs love Mac and unsupported Mac videos. That's the demographic at least. 360p video isn't an option. Tried it once, actually started loosing subscribers.

I'll be honest with you guys, after this challenge is over I'm probably leaving the PPC era. This week thus far has been brutal, and I waste my time on projects that someone supersedes within the next 24 hours, or all the copycats of my Archive. Just not worth my time anymore.

I wouldn't worry too much. It doesn't work well. I tested it.

Sorry for sounding vague; I was asking how well it works for Facebook. I'm wondering if there's some way to create a FB Messenger box/app for PPC. Although, I suppose the most you can do with it is isolate the chat feature that's integrated with the website itself. Not the same thing as a standalone desktop app, like the unofficial Messenger.

I installed it to my MDD and Tom has put a lot of work into his pack and it is leaps and bounds better than what I was even capable of producing.

If it was my pack I would change some things but it's not so I have no say in that. I don't know a thing about programming with Xcode but I am familiar with VB/C# using Visual Studio in Windows but that's about it.

My iBook is being slower and slower every day.. I need to do important stuff on laptop..I don't know if i will cheat or not.. I don't know if iBook will work on playing at least 720p video on full screen.. And have opened PowerPoint at same time and battery should last at least 5h.. so help me god.. Tomorrow will be really tough.. :(

So, PPC Archive will be gone ? .. I dont really understand..

Tom and I have talked. I can't really stand by my saying until I do a clean install of Leopard. Keep in mind I was theming a little too last summer.

Day 3 & 4 on the Powerbook G4 12"

Super busy at work , long days , feeling a bit sick , basically same routine , train commutes , watch tv series ( trainride is exactly the length of an episode ) using Coreplayer, might do some browsing with Webkit, Cruz using my iPhone 4G Hotspot. When getting home , let Automatic 2 pull in new series with uTorrent , prepare food , watch a serie, check my gmail (webversion) and this forum using TFF or Webkit, google some stuff, watch a Youtube video.

Checked an Excel file of all my purchases , opened from Dropbox in Office 2008.
Currently cloning a full backup using Carbon Copy Cloner to the FW Card Reader with the Sandisk CF card before installing
Tom's LeopardRebirth.

Day 4 I realise I can perfecly use my PB daily , only things missing/blocking to use it 24/7 are :
  1. At work I have to use a Windowz machine because network vendors make all their GUI stuff for Windowz
and customers use Windowz, for some of these things I need my retina MBP also
( could use a Citrix Terminal client like on my previous job )
  2. Virtual machines , I have them running on an Xserve now so I just need Terminal and some of the lightweight POC stuff can actually run with qemu on the PPC
  3. Checking my 4 mail accounts, various chat thingies WhatsApp Messenger,iMessages,Linkedin,eBay just to have instant notifications which can trigger me , using my iPhone for that
  4. Screen estate , I have a 20" Cinema Display but my 27" Thunderbolt Display is my "TV" is just across my sofa
and it has speakers in the screen .
So far I have been watching series on the PB sitting at my table at home or in the train .
Miss the option to divert sound to the screen and also a bigger screen for the PB, any suggestions for the sound ?
  5. Still haven't worked out/looked at the Wacom tablet driver issue nor my Canon LIDE scanner
General consensus so far, PB + iPhone get the job done .

Today I did some web browsing and YouTube video watching on my MDD G4 while also using my iMac G4 with the Pro Speakers to listen to a new CD I picked up at Goodwill. Here's a photo of my set up for the past two days. Yes, I was sitting on a beanbag chair on the floor. Not exactly the most comfortable, but I didn't want to try to move the display to the desk again right now. :p

I also realized how much I haven't been used to using this keyboard. I much prefer the Apple Pro Keyboard over the original USB keyboard and the later white ones they made. Wired Mighty Mouse is great though. :D

Alright, I haven't provided an update but I have been using my DLSD and my dual 2.7 G5 pretty heavily.

I tried using the Quad at work, but ultimately have had to revert to the Mac Pro.

I've been using my MBP for banking and financial stuff out of security concerns.

Yeah, it was rather sad to see how it all went rogue at the end. And it is sad to see you leave the PPC era, especially after all the effort you put into it. I know we've had our differences in things, but I really want to thank you for what you did, Gavin, and believe me, your efforts never went unnoticed in this small community! Hope you stick around :)
