Was bummed that the site had issues. Decided to check the Apple Store App and it worked, well sort of. It had issues checking my upgrade status with AT&T. When it timed out, Apple said it had the iPhone 6+ for me and gave me a reservation number. Got an email this morning that they were ready for me to complete my order. Just received an email confirmation that my phone will deliver by 9/19.

LUCKY - I ordered my 6+, 128GB on AT&T last night at 12:03AM... estimated ship date?

October 31, 2014

Nice - UGH!

Wrong. It wasn't slow. It wasn't glitching. It wasn't giving error messages.

It was just not up. Nobody was getting in. The Apple store app was working but not the website.

To be fair, it went up in other countries (Germany, UK, Japan) before it went up in the US, so perhaps traffic contributed to the glitch. It wasn't the root cause, though, since at first no one anywhere could get in. And the iOS apps were working fairly quickly.

I live in Los Angeles and I ordered my 6+ at 903 pm LA Time....

Here is how I did it

Called a friend who lived in Ohio at 1150 pm HIS time and did a Remote Connection via Log Me In ..... I stayed connected to his PC until midnight and then logged into ATT website.....

ATT website sees his local time and ISP....I login with my account info and buy the phone...... Done in 3-5 mins !

gee..that's quite clever...I will make a note for the next full 7 release. I will skip the 6S next year.

lets see how quickly Samsung creates an advertisement for this news.

They'll show a MOTHER OF of children and the kids wear T Shirts
with their names:

One childs name is UPGRADE, one is Upgrade plus etc.

Of course she is yelling at her kids:

Upgrade: Don't touch this with one hand, where is your stylus?,
don't loose your battery (pun intended)

Upgrade plus, how old are you

etc.etc.

I went through the same exact thing. Got my Apple App to go through early 12:15ish. While I was waiting for the email to complete order, some knuckle head posted, "delivery date would depend on when order was complete". Got a little nervous but just could not believe Apple would do that if my order went all the way until AT&T servers went down but still gave res#.

Anyway just as i thought, email came and completed order 8:22AM and a confirmed delivery 9/19......:apple:

Last year the total opening weekend sales of iPhone 5s's, and 5c's was 9 million.

I wonder how many Apple will sell next weekend.

Remember last year also included China, while this year didn't because of "regulatory approval" issues. It might be about the same, or maybe 10 million, since they seem to have lots of stock of the iPhone 6 around (no, I don't think this is a case of the iPhone 6 being this year's iPhone 5c).

Watching just how many people have been lugging around oversized phablet's, it's not really that surprising. People are cuckoo.

I struggled a bit over the larger 5.5 size but in the end for my own use it made sense as I use it more as a computer, email, messaging web browsing and barely talk on the phone.

If I find the 6 plus gets to cumbersome to put in my pockets I may go with a belt clip case like I used to have "in the old days" with my Motorola flip phone. Perhaps someone here can remember those? ;)

Not surprised, I think more than anything the reason is because of the larger screen, people have been wanting a larger iPhone for a long time..

If at first you don't succeed...

Tried to take advantage of Sprint's iPhone for Life deal, but got tired of waiting for their website to update. Couldn't order through apple.com, but but was able to with the apple store app, just not for the color I wanted. Placed order anyway. This morning (7am mtn) still couldn't order at sprint.com, but after breakfast (9am) no problem, got the one I wanted in the color I wanted, with expected delivery of 9/19. Then spent 1.5 hours on hold with apple to cancel that order.

There was no doubt in my mind that this would happen, I even posted somewhere that I thought the bigger phones would sell like crazy. There's a HUGE market for bigger phones, the tiny phone people are the minority. Hear that? It's not popcorn popping, it's tiny heads exploding.

It may not have been down as in "completely inaccessible by anyone", but a LOT of people could not get in via apple.com. I tried to load it repeatedly for over an hour and never got the store to load. I had to order it through the Apple Store app.

The "were down for rebuilding" or whatever message never left my screen. Refreshed no problem right back to that screen. I use Firefox primarily so I tried Safari as well with the same result. I also tried navigating to the from the main site as well with no luck and used a link I had up previously as well as one from MacRumors. All went to the same maintenance page like it never came up from when they took it down at midnight (EST).

I thought about just doing it through att so I could go to bed and had no problems navigating through there until I just held off. The Apple app on IOS was very laggy. I could get through various stages of the selections before it would spit an error out at me.

The odd thing was I went to go to the main MacRumors page to see if anything had been posted and right before 3 this site went dead on me too. I want to say it could have been something in the carrier but I cant image Verizon was having issues handling http requests for low bandwidth sites.

Did anyone else that ordered through Apple get another email saying they had to...

Please click here to return to the Apple Online Store. To maintain the delivery priority of your iPhone order, you will need to complete your purchase by Saturday, September 13, 9:00AM PDT. If you do not complete your purchase by that time, your reservation will be canceled. ???

I am unable to go into to confirm the order since when I log in it says i have already ordered an iPhone 6! And they are already holding my money?

I received the "We have an iPhone for you" message around 4:08 am EST. I was able to go to the Apple Store webpage and order a phone (6+ 64 GB AT&T) to pick up in store on 9/19 as the delivery dates had been pushed to 7-10 business days.

I received your message in question at 9:47 AM EST. I went through the process and the message said that I have already placed an order for an iPhone.

What I'm guessing is that when you first tried, Apple was unable to reach your carrier and made a reservation. As you kept trying, Apple was eventually able to connect. No notification had been sent to your carrier that an iPhone had been reserved for you. Therefore you were able to purchase an iPhone. Today when you went to access the reservation, the system checked your account with current orders and saw an iPhone had been purchased.

I think (and hope as I am in the same boat) this means is you have an iPhone purchased and you will just lose your reservation.

Always go with Apple

For the Iphone 4 I got screwed by AT&T when people who ordered hours after me got their phones on launch day but my order got delayed because I managed to do it when their system was hosed. Iphone 5 I woke up early and placed my order with AT&T within the first 15 minutes. Again got screwed that people who ordered much later in the day got phones on launch day and my order was delayed 2 weeks because apparently AT&T recovers from system crashes by putting in the orders in reverse from the time they get the system back up. So this year went with Apple. No problems, no issues. Ordered using the Apple store app at about 3:10am. Never ever order through the service providers if you can help it. Took me a couple of times to realize this but Apple is the way to go.

I'm really surprised how much pent up demand there was for the Plus model. I thought most people would find it too cumbersome to use on a daily basis.

Few things to consider...

1. A lot of the people buying right now are the early adopters. It has seemed that the more tech savvy people, like people on these forums, skew more towards the larger devices. I would think that early on we will see a higher percentage of sales of the iPhone Plus than what will be normal over time.

Kinda similar to the idea that early adopters were going to prefer the iPhone 5S over the iPhone 5C.

2. It's very likely that Apple has produced significantly more 4.7 inch phones than they have 5.5 inch phones.

None of this is to say that demand for the iPhone Plus hasn't been spectacular but just that it's really tough to make that call at this point.

Not surprised, I think more than anything the reason is because of the larger screen, people have been wanting a larger iPhone for a long time..

Exactly. The "one hand operation is the perfect size" speech that some bought into was just for appeasement until they were able to make bigger ones. That transformed into the "best iphones we have ever made" speech.

Ordered myself a 6+

To those who are saying that it's too big for a phone: I agree completely. I, however, don't really consider it a phone - more of a mini iPad mini with phone features that I will use once a month (if that).

I had a 5s and an iPad air - I felt like it was stupid to have two devices that were so close to each other in functionality (at least, for me).

The idea for me is to have a portable device that can handle reading, email, messaging, games, etc. I have no need or intention to keep it in my front pocket and whip it out 100x per day but that's just me and my very specific uses/habits.

Except it won't run iPad apps. When I first heard the rumors about the 5.5" model, I wondered whether Apple would market it as an "iPad nano," but then realized that there is still a huge difference between a 5.5" 16:9 screen and a 7.9" 4:3 screen. iPad apps wouldn't scale right on the iPhone Plus. We are starting to get "fragmentation" with iOS now that there is the "standard" 16:9 on the 5c, 5s, and 6, and the "extra room" version on the Plus, in addition to the iPad version.

I struggled a bit over the larger 5.5 size but in the end for my own use it made sense as I use it more as a computer, email, messaging web browsing and barely talk on the phone.

I don't like belt clips because it's easy for someone to snatch and grab it. Though theft is less of an issue these days since the iPhone can't be re-activated without the iCloud account. But I don't like having a slab hanging off my hip as an easy theft target. It's bad enough someone will just run by and swipe it out of your hand.
I also don't think want to be walking down the streets of the city holding one.

I'm waiting to actually see the product to see if I want the 6 or the 6+. I'm leaning towards the 6, but I want to wait until this initial orders has been done since it's pandemonium right now.

Well, that oughta stop the 'constrained supply' theorists right in their tracks.

For the 6 Plus, it may well be constrained supplies. Remember, it uses a completely different screen from the 6, as it has a higher pixel density. Theoretically, Apple can source the 5c, 5s, and 6 screens from the same production line, since the pixel density is the same (they just cut a bigger screen for the 6). But the 6 Plus needs a separate production line altogether.

On a side note, whichever "unreliable" site who leaked the original "iPhone Math" did get it right in the end (it may have been the "iPhone +" in code). I wonder what their current rumors are.

Anyone with an AT&T account not able to change their shipping address? I would like to have my phone shipped to my work since I won't be home, but apparently I can't because that's not my ATT billing address. I wonder if there's a way to change this?
