No multitasking. No offscreen gestures. No haptic virtual keyboard or hardware keyboard. no new ports.

Basically it's the same incremental upgrade as seen from the 1G to 2G touch. At least the autofill is cool.

Haha... I can just imagine this guy sitting in front of his computer, hitting refresh every 5 seconds with bloodshot eyes and shaky hands, whilst tenderly caressing his Pre.

Dude, you must live a really sad life. Get out more, enjoy your Pre in the open and stop trying to troll because you are pretty bad at it. :(

You've got to be kidding me. No really. Push notification? The Pre has fantastic multitasking that allows you to use 12-15 apps (ANY APP) at the same time, PLUS unobtrusive notifications, and Apple decided to use push noitification to match everything? How does that match multitasking among all apps? Hell you're still killing apps everytime you go App>Homescreen>2nd app>Homescreen>1st>app>Homescreen>3rd app.

Such an archaic system shored up by an even more archaic system. You'd be better off keeping track of apps with an abacus taped to the back.

Fantastic multitasking? I had about 4 apps open on a Pre and wanted to make a phone call. The amount of lag time that transpired before the keypad came up was laughable. In fact, after a couple of hours of playing with one, I was shocked and awed with how incredibly slow and laggy WebOS is. It has tons of potential but was clearly rushed out of the gates to compete with Apple's WWDC announcement. Hardly a fantastic experience. And this was with every app- a ridiculous delay that put even iPhone OS 2.0 to shame.

And don't even get me started about the Pre's build quality...

You've got to be kidding? You're advocating getting a device to show off the brand name instead of what device is actually better? Why not take a rock and chisel it into an iPhone shape and stick an Apple sticker on the back?

I already have a 3G, so yeah, I don't think I would buy a Palm right now, what with 6 months of my contract left.

But that isn't to say I would buy a Palm Pre under normal circumstances either. As far as I'm concerned, the device is inferior for what I want. Ergo, I advocate iPhone. Deal with it pimp.*

*No amount of text can justify the 'lol' I find at dubbing oneself a 'pimp'.

The Pre is a turd, a little stinking turd at that even has round edges like a turd, go browse the 18 apps.

That is 18 more apps than iPhone had on it's first day out.... or even first year out.

you know what's hilarious about the pre......

8 GB...... fixed

iphone..... up to 32 GB......

You tools whine about the iphone lagging behind with features and the pre has ONE FOURTH of the storage that an iphone can have..... LOL

Can anyone actually say that the pre's hardware isn't complete dog**** and still keep a straight face?

and that makes it an iPhone killer?

Its not how many apps were available for the first gen iPhone but how many were available when they opened the app store, if there had only been 18 everyone would have laughed at them.

See how desperate these Pre folks are, they are now saying we shouldn't be comparing the Pre to the iphone 3g or the 3gs. We should be comparing it to the original iphone that debuted in January 2007, 2 years ago. We should compare the sales of the Pre to that phone, the number of apps, everything, they know they can't compete with Apple's current offerings so we should be comparing it to a phone Apple has stop making.

The 99 dollar iphone has the same storage as the Pre, if you step up to the 199, it has double. The only thing they have left to harp on is multitasking and the 50 000 sales of the Pre shows that most people aren't concerned about multitasking on a 3 inch screen.

The Pre has come far too late to the game, and hasn't come into it NEARLY forcefully enough.

To make a dent in iPhone's market share, it would have needed to be pretty much PERFECT at launch, such is the current power of the iPhone's brand identity.

And incase you hadn't noticed - it's far from perfect.

It'll do well, for a Palm phone, but it's not an "iPhone killer"... or even THAT much of a rival.
Sadly you turned out to be right. :(

Regardless it is relevant based on today's news of HP killing their webOS hardware and all PC hardware for that matter. Interesting to see how people's predictions turned out.

It's also telling that the OP is/was so fanatical about his position that he remembered the thread from two years ago and dug it up for today.

I barely remember the links to thread I posted to last week, let alone two years ago.
