I work pizza delivery and my 17PM is on my car charger daily for hours, and while sleeping and mine is still indexing. I can't imagine this is actually normal? 🤷

It is. The phone basically reworks how it can find and work with all the data on your phone for faster and more accurate Spotlight and Siri. You can still use your phone as normal, no? Then there is no reason to worry.

Indexing improves search results.
I’m thinking that seeing as new Siri AI is entirely built around these new indexes it’s safe to assume usage is affected until it’s finished.
Did you read his post? He’s on 13PM which doesn’t have the new Siri.
My 17 Pro has been indexing for a week but has never gotten warm to the touch. My assumption is that they are throttling it down to not impact day-to-day usage of the device.

Its not "STUCK" its doing its job...have patience and stop restarting your phone and all the other nonsense your performing to accelearte indexing, you are only delaying the completion of the task.
I wouldn’t be so sure. From what they implied, they have completely rearchitected how they index data. On top of re-indexing everything, they need to do it in a way that keeps your phone usable while it’s happening. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes weeks.

I have noticed a few others say that the indexing message has disappeared after 5-7 days. I wonder if that’s just the phones; as you mention my ipad still shows that indexing message after approximately 7 days, this evening will be 7, though Siri was enabled for me on Friday. I’m still of the opinion that this is a glitch that may be more prominent on the iPads. I never place betas on my phones. Based on the posts mentioning the huge photo libraries in addition to other large amounts of data in iCloud, my indexing should have been done in a couple days as I have far, far less of these amounts.
Still indexing after 7 days on both my iPhone Air and iPad Pro M5. They’re only on chargers at night
I’m still thinking that this indexing message will be gone after the next release. Although it seems to be gone already for some.

wow...the message will go away when it finishes indexing, not before... Clearly Apple has setup a slow index to avoid overheating the iPhone and allowing it to be used normally during the index process. Patience is key here. The message is gone already for some BECAUSE they are finished indexing. Everyone has different indexing requirements, for example my phone has 123k photos, which means my indexing is going to take significantly more time to complete that the iPhone with 100 images. Its also indexing your iCloud data.
I agree because I have less than 200 photos on device and in iCloud. My data storage is far less than what’s been posted here, and I’m going on 7 days. This is on my iPad. There is no rationale for this. I’m still expecting the next beta to resolve the message.

Biggest mistake Apple made with this beta is showing people that indexing message front and center. People really can’t handle it. If it was just going on in the background like always people wouldn’t be freaking out about it they way they are….. this is like Battery health all over again.
I assume you’re intended to do so. It won’t do anything more than restarting does, and I think it may take care of the indexing. Or it will continue it, for those with massive amounts of data.

and why not simply take the message at face value...if it says its indexing, its still indexing.
