I had come to like and appreciate the fact that all Apple hardware was ready to be bought the day it was announced. It was sad to see them announcing something to come next year, and now it is time for another keynote already, might as well have announced it this year. I really have no clue why they did this.

After using a wireless charger that keeps my phone upright, I can't see myself going back to one that has to be laid down flat.

Exactly I’m sticking with existing stand type wireless charger=iphone8
Watch via usb -very little re charge time required.
Air mat or whatever it’s called is +149 U.K. pounds which I’m not parting with this time.

Just like 32-person FaceTime is cool, AirPower is cool. But not $149 cool.

Sure, it might be the first multi-device wireless charger. But most people will ask, is it worth $149?

That's somewhat steep. Sure it will be three charges in one and all but I would need to get three or four. Two for the bedroom, one for myself and one for my wife where it will charge iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. But I would also prefer one for my working desk at home and one for my office... That 596 USD's.....

I guess two for the bedroom would have to do for now. That's when we normally always charge at least four devices as once every day (phone+watch, and perhaps airpods). At my desk and at my office I can almost always get by only charge one device at the time.

149 USD so 116 GBP. that's like 10 extra pints i just saved you.

This is obsolete and it hasn't even come out yet, just like the Homepod. They haven't even brought out the wireless charging case for the Airpods yet which you know they are going to want at least another $99 for.

How is it obsolete? There is no current solution on the market that is equal. The closest thing are fugly double-coil solutions from China... This thing is much more sexy, integrates with iOS in order for it to not overheat or overcharge, gives you nice charging widgets etc..

I do agree that it arrives late, and the pricing is high but obsolete?

Everyone complaining it costs too much yet they care that it's not out yet. That's like complaining about the price of a Ferrari you can't afford anyways.

could another company create a case for the AirPods to go into and then charged on a regular Qi wireless charger?
No because the case tightly is integrated with the AirPods themselves. I suppose you could wrap the existing AirPods case inside of some charging case with wireless charging

Second this, reports say the Airpower runs a stripped down iOS to handshake with apple watch and AirPods. pretty much a iPhone 5 strapped to some inductive coils. I don't believe apple would ever hand over iOS to a third party.

Just like they were late to the smartphone....

And Tablets.

And smart watches.

Also late to the wireless headphone game...

Do you not get it yet?

and the iPod (the more things change . . . ) :

I can't wait to spend $150 to charge my phone at night.
There are hundreds of wireless chargers available starting at $15. Apple is making the first multi-device wireless charger. And knowing Apple, the phone won't have to be in the "sweet spot" for wireless charging to work, so there will be no more waking up to an uncharged phone.
