Hey kids!

Once upon a time, Apple made truly clever products that were several steps ahead of anything the rest of the industry could come close to. They also marketed them fantastically well. Even when unboxing said hardware, you could really feel the attention to detail that had gone into production. They felt 'special'.

Then, 10 years later, Apple invented the iPhone, grew into a multi-billion-dollar (touching on trillion) behemoth on the back of it, with such obscene amounts of cash reserves, they lost sight of their vision along with their visionary leader. From that point on, even those loyal customers affluent (and some said stupid) enough to continue buying their products, were treated with contempt, effectively as unpaid beta testers on substandard products. Flaws and gimmicks were the name of the game, anything to bolster those shares. Meanwhile the extortionate price gouging on accessories continued apace.

Arrogance. Hubris. Greed.

The End.
[doublepost=1534193036][/doublepost]p.s. In the inimitable words of my avatar, for a wired 'wireless' charger that costs 150 notes, Apple can go bite my shiny golden metal ass...

You're being too literal. Extortionate has a definition other than in the legal/criminal sense. It means grossly excessive. He was using the term correctly in the context. Maybe use an online dictionary next time eh.
At the price of the dual charger Samsung introduced last week, the Apple 3-device charger would be an absolute steal at $149.

Yeah I mean the samsung duo charger is 120 so for an extra 30-40 it's not that bad given it can charge 3 things at once

That’d be a pretty big screw up if it didn’t work on late 2017 phones and the phones about to be announced. Although I’m wouldn’t expect it on the lowest end phone. I’m still hoping by for a surprise iPhone SE 2 for the kids.

Will work with any QI wireless charging phones

Yup. But I’ll admit six months ago when everyone was screaming about a $199 price, I said I thought it would be in the $99-119 range (given that AirPods themselves are only $159). However, apparently there’s a lot more tech in these than initially thought. Reports are something like a T-series controller running an embedded OS. I guess we’ll know more soon.

After waiting this long I'm not as excited about AirPower. If they update the AirPods and the cases support wireless charging I might do it then but I'm not going to spend $150 + tax on the AirPower and $79 + tax for the AirPods case and then want to buy new AirPods again when those come out. My watch has a wireless charger and ones for the phone can be had for $15 which leaves the AirPods which I don't even charge more than once a week.

My issue with this is that I just don't have any need or desire to charge three devices in the same place. I charge my phone by my bed overnight, I charge my iPad at my desk, and I charge my AirPods in the mudroom where I can grab them on my way out the door to the gym. I do not have or currently want the watch. So I would rather spend $25-50 each on three different chargers that I can put in three different locations than to spend $150 on this.

Re: Anker wireless chargers
Are they fast charging? Would you recommend them?

I have an Anker wireless charger and would recommend it. It was around $25 on Amazon. Mine is 7.5W, which is the most any current iPhone supports and is faster than 5W chargers (of which there are ton on the market), but not as fast as plugging it in. I charge it overnight so I don't care much about speed as long as it's fully charged when I wake up, which it is.

As far as i'm aware Apple's Airpower is the only wireless charger that can charge 3 devices at the same time and when placed anywhere on the mat.

Kaci QI Wireless Charger with 3 Wireless Charging Ports - you got 30 bucks? and it's on the market. Not as pretty though.

edit: powersquare tango wireless charger (more like airpower) but only powers 2 devices at the sae time - 33 bucks.

cough cough...

but can it charge an apple watch series 3? nope

don't think any wireless charger can charge any apple watch

I understand you don’t agree with the price of the Airpower, but How could a price of a product that is optional for the consumer to purchase be ‘extortionate’? Extortion is through force or threatening. What you’re saying in your above post isn’t applied appropriately.

I’ll bet you’re a hoot at parties.

Odd. I have a 3 year old charging mat that charges two of my phones, and it cost me $30 on Amazon.

Apple = Years late and a 500% overpriced. But, at a market cap at 1 trillion, there's obviously enough idiots out there that can't wait to spend their money on this garbage.

A rather well built Qi mat+stand from China costs around 10 dollars US, and I would rather buy 15 of those, place them all over the house to have a truly wireless charging experience.

But does it charge the Apple Watch, iPhone X or iPhone 8 or 8 Plus and AirPods?

“contains 22 individual wireless charging coils, each of which can be independently controlled to supply power. That’s how Apple is managing to charge the Apple Watch no matter where it’s placed on the charging mat — there’s enough coils to accomodate any placement.”

The fact that the AirPower will be able to charge my iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods no matter where on the charger I place them is a buy for me, add to that the fact that I can charge 3 devices at the same time = very convenient.

I can see people buying these for home and the office.

And you feel the need to insult people because?

Either they’re using really expensive coils or Apples making a lot more money on this. Although on the other hand, it’s also the same price as their leather MacBook sleeve.

Apple using expensive coils? Apple is too cheap to put anything expensive in their products except few. See the lightning cable and it's quality. Overpriced and bad.

I bet it would work too. As in I could place the devices anywhere on the AirPower pad and they would charge. The one I have now you have to place the phone in exactly the right spot otherwise it won’t charge.

People bash Apple a lot and we get tired of it around here. But sometimes there's a justificatid motivation behind it.

They announced this ages ago. Last year. It's not released yet. And when it comes out the price will be zany. Its puzzling to observe.
