exactly, bose = fantastic marketing, not exactly fantastic speakers. they aren't quite bottom of the line, but they aren't the top like many have been led to believe.

Great post! Finally, someone who can read, rather than simply posting inane and hasty comments.

This goes out to the both of you! I can read. Actually I read very well. Its you both that have no idea what your talking about. READ IT AGAIN! I looked at the .pdf and the specs on Apples site. There is no AC adapter. It says it can charge the iPod with a Firewire cable that hooks up to your laptop/desktop. Get it? Dont you both feel stupid! LOL!

Wow I cant believe this guy... Audio pro? LOL How much does that make you a year? Ok back to Audi 101 for you. The makers of Cambridge Soundworks originally came from Bose when they had a disagreement with the future of Bose. Personally I think Bose are very cheaply made and are overrated. Have you seen inside the Bose speakers and the Cambridge Soundworks speakers? Bose look like little tinker toys compared to the meat in a Cambridge speaker. And all the Audio reviews I have seen have never had anything bad to say about Cambridge soundworks. Cambridge Soundworks is the best bang for the buck period. Audio pro... that is to funny.

ppl are saying you can just plug your ipod into speakers and get the same effect. But surely ipod->speakers wouldn't have enough amplification for any sort of volume.

I wouldn't get one (personally). I'd line out to a stereo or have the headphones. Hope it works for some people tho.

Dude, you can get amplified speakers for less than $20.

You can even get "good" near-field (ie, PC speakers, not intended for rockin' a party) amplified speakers for far less than $100!

subjective = no one's opinion can be "wrong".

pnw

Look in any pro-audio review mag man... its a fact, not subjective. Amar Bose himself says its all how you market stuff. Look it up. The stuff is ****.

Personally I think it's cool...But I would have to hear what it sounds like before I decide if it's bad or good....

Just remember, the Bose "Wave Radio/CD" sounds very good, and I'm sure it's not 100 watts of power....

doesn't audiophile mean like an "audio addict" or someone that just knows alot? he didn't necessarily say pro.

I believe you have misunderstood the original quote...the original quote was dismissive of Bose, which would be right in line with your thinking. All audiophiles know the good stuff, I presume, and Bose does not even come close to audiophile-quality. That's a lot of buck for a little bang, IMHO. But, you should read the quote and understand it before you criticize!

Did you read the press release that the original article linked, announcing the device? It very clearly states:

"inMotion's Class D Amplification provides maximum sound with minimum power consumption. Smaller, cooler, and more efficient than other amplifier alternatives, inMotion's onboard amp can support up to 24 hours of continuous playback on just four AA batteries (not included). For desktop or other indoor use, inMotion also includes an AC power supply that recharges the iPod anytime it sits in the inMotion docking bay."

I mean, since you can read very well and all, it seems you would have picked up on this...Now, what was that you said about feeling stupid?

Literally, it means "on who loves audiophile." Apparently, though, it is also being used as a source of credibility on the critique of audio products.

And Amar Bose may HAVE said that it is all just how you market stuff...But I think everybody says that. And I don't think that it takes away from the fact that he is supposed to be a very gifted engineer.

Oooh an AUDIOPHILE! Doesnt this usually mean someone who spends as much on audio cables as normal people do on computers?

Bose isnt crap just overpriced.

Audiophile means someone who is an audio snob. Audiophiles like to think they know a lot, but they tend to have a herd mentality. If some magazine says some new cable maker has increased the sound quality .0001% then they will all run out and spend a few grand on these great new cables.

He probably spent 15,000+ on just speakers when most people wouldnt be able to tell the difference from a 500 dollar set of klipsch speakers.

So true...

Wow, I'm amazed at how much we all jumped on that guy's case. In fact, I think it's even funnier because we're all reluctant to argue on the behalf of Bose.

It's more of a "well, don't be so opinionated!" And while he was obnoxious, I think we're all probably opinionated, too, regarding Macs, although we probably provide more material evidence than he provided regarding the relative under-performance of Bose.

Oh well, he got flamed. Next time, he should back up his arguments more, and not make outrageous statements that suggest (by context, not by literal interpretation) that Altec Lansing makes better speakers than Bose.

e2chris must feel like an idiot

I hate when people post and have no idea about what they are talking about. I think this applies to a lot of people on this board. Is this a high school crowd or what?

Where are the inteligent mac heads?:)

I don't see the use in this.

  • It runs off batteries - who wants to constantly be changing batteries?
  • It's suppose to be portable...but it isn't. Who wants to lug that thing around everywhere you go?
  • Sound quality can't even be decent. Running off batteries, I'd be amazed if it sounded better than the PowerBook/iBook speakers.

This thing is pretty cool, although I don't know if I'd be willing to spend $150 on it when I can buy a cable for $20 and plug my ipod into my home speakers. I guess when I get an office job again, it would be useful. :)

Alia

I just ordered a 15GB iPod from Amazon yesterday for $122 (OK, I had $250 worth of Amazon gift certificates from using my Amazon credit card for work expenses) and I plan on using an FM transmitter (when available) to plat it in my car and office little boom box.

As an aside, www.engineeredaudio.com just released an USB FM transmitter for you iPod-less folks to pay music from your Mac on radios and stereos. Pretty cool for $59.

This is one of those "designy" things...

I've been using the Osiris G-Bag with my iPod at work (outside) and on the go.
Check it out. Boom box in style and a large backpack to boot!

weak attempt at an ipod accessory

yea this inmotion things sounds like its going to flop. Sound quality cant be great from such small speakers...now i know sound quality isnt the point of this thing but when i listen to my $400 iPod, i want to hear some high quality music.

So what i did was buy some sony MDR-EX71 headphones. They sound incredible with the iPod! way better than the stock iPod phones. Plus they block out outside noise very well. BTW, i dont think you can get them in stores in the U.S. I got mine from audiocubes, great sevice and got them all the way from Japan in 5 business days!

To all of you guys arguing that Bose speakers suck...i have to disagree. I own a pair of Bose 301 Series IV speakers and i absolutely love them. I think they sound incredible, and i have heard many stereo systems that dont sound as good. Just out of curiosity...what are some brands/models of speakers that make Bose sound crappy in comparison? Id like to hear them, i dont doubt they're out their either...

eh, this is stupid, i went right on and purchased one, because I liked it, and thought it'd be good for here at the store. It went through, estimate ship date is on or before 10/16/2003 what a load of crap. DON'T F'N RELEASE SOMETHING UNLESS YOU HAVE THEM! they were just released online today right? and they already dont have them, that's simply retarded, terrible business, and i dont quite understand why apple and all of these other people do it. i understand to see what kind of interest you have, but come on, atleast have some made, i doubt a ton of people went and bought them for $150. needless to say, i just had them cancell it

Yeah, I know! I can't believe ANY company would do that! I've never heard of another company EVER releasing a product before it had supplies...

Wait a minute...Never mind...;)

the Apple Pro speakers does not fit the iPod.

Re:Re:Re: Cool Car

Just FYI: This is not a French car (although French cars are nice), it is made by a subsidiary to Daimler Chrysler ... and since I am off topic: There are a ton of nice cars that protectionist American politics are denying us that would be awesome to have... If you are driving in inner cities anywhere: The "SMART" is truly a smart and fun solution ... they now even have a a little fun roadster ...
