On my iPhone 6 Plus, Safari didn't reload until I hit the 15th new tab!! Each time I would add a new tab I would randomly flip through the other tabs to make sure they were loaded. That is an amazing increase considering I couldn't even keep two tabs open at once before!

I didn't notice this until now because I had iOS 9 running on my iPad Air 2 all summer. Even on iOS 8 it was not unusual to keep around 15 tabs open on that device so I never noticed.

Maybe this is just a fluke, maybe it's just because the OS is shiny and new and clean. But wow, this is unbelievable! The iPhone 6S is going to be really amazing compared to this. I didn't realize they were finally cleaning up Safari! This has been my #1 complaint for so long I can't even remember. Everything else is a minor concern. I am happy. I freaking hope this isn't a fluke.

I've been running iOS 9 since the second beta and it was noticeable how much better the RAM management was. I hadn't tried 15 tabs but for me, having 2-3 tabs open usually, and flipping between apps I've had a much fewer tab or app refreshes. 9.1 beta is even better as it adds speed to everything. They're definitely working on efficiency.

If Apple claim up to 3 hours of extra battery then how is that up-to-3-hour figure in any way relevant or meaningful to users unless Apple expects at least some of its users to to enable the mode permanently? One thing Apple is pretty good at is only quoting specifications that it thinks are meaningful to users so surely it must anticipate some people switching it on permanently.

I believe an extra 3 hours after 20%. So typically I get 1 hour per 10%, so instead of 2 extra hours at the 20% notification you get 5 hours. I've been on betas for a while and tried low battery mode from 100% and got two whole days while camping. Still had 30% before plugging it in at night on the last day.

iPhone 4S: battery sucks big time (6% lost in almost 5 minutes) and performance without Low power mode enabled is awful!
Why Apple engineers don't design software on less capable devices first and move on from there?

are you serious ? its like asking apple to build something new but should work for devices older than yourself ? get a grip dude its been 4 years since 4s came out technology has changed. The hardware in 4s is way outdated the fact that you can use ios 9 itself is a win -win situation. they should have stopped 4s with ios 7 but since they gave out ios 8, ios 9 was more of a optimizer to 9 for 4s users.

The new iOS9 is nice. I hope one day they will add a 'select all' option in mail instead of having to manually press each one to delete them from mail. So annoying!

I'm really out of the loop on 9.1. That's good to hear! This is definitely shaping up to be an iOS 6 type quality release. Like a Snow Leopard for iPhone. I just had my mind blown again a little bit earlier when I installed my first content blocker, "Peace", by Marco Arment and Ghostery. 9to5Mac is especially faster, lol. It's going to be amazing to see the iPhone 6S on iOS 9 after seeing these improvements already on older devices!

Strange. As soon as I installed iOS 9 I didn't get any prompt to change from 4 digit to 6 digit for my passcode before getting to the home screen. Should this happen or should we all do it manually? I still can use my 4 digit and my Touch ID without any problems.

so much effort required from so many developers (Apple, 3rd party) so that Apple can save $5/device by not moving to 64GB base...
If Apple really wanted to show how much they cared for their customers, they'd do these space saving features in addition to making the industry standard base model 32GB on a $650-$750 phone.

Instead, they've probably did the analysis that's it's cheaper to pay a team of software engineers to make all these space saving measures than it is to add an extra measly 16GB on a 30% margin phone.

Found a bug on my iphone 6 running ios 9. In spotlight, if you type "home kit" or even "home k" it causes a respring. Might be unique to my device...

I agree that the 4S is lucky to be running iOS9, even with any hiccups it might have. However, it's a flawless update for those who have an iPhone 5 and will allow folks to squeeze another year out of that amazing device.

This was the right move for Apple. With increased iCloud storage and the space savings of iOS9, most users should be fine and Apple is allowed to shave some cost.

They can also sell more iCloud storage or upsell the 64GB phones to those who want them (like me).

I do expect 32GB on the base models next year. Flash storage prices should be even cheaper and consumers will rejoice.

For now, Apple needs to focus on getting it's stock back over $130.

"Apple recommends a 6-digit code because it adds one million possible combinations"
Actually, a 6-digit code adds 990,00 additional combinations, making it one million total...
If 4-digit codes can still be used, then it really does add 1,000,000 additional combinations.

you should be happy that you get the update. it's the first time apple has supported an old iphone this long.

It's the comment section, you could get rid of 80% of the comments and still say there are pointless comments cluttering up the discussion. Just not big on censorship.
Irrelevant catchphrases are pointless. There's a rather clear difference.

But... but...but... necessity is still the mother of invention..... these optimizations can only help us down the line.
Ignoring your sarcasm, then yes you are correct.

If you prefer a different approach to optimization vs resources you should really check out the competition.

5$? Do the math! It's not just about saving a couple of bucks for hardware, but mostly for bandwidth! Apple pays for every 1 GB downloaded from their (Amazon/Azure) I don't know how much money to Amazon/Microsoft! Now multiply this with the number of downloads each day and compare the saved bandwidth, which means real money saved - for Apple off course (3rd party developers still have the burden to do additional testing/coding - they gain nothing out of it).

I want low power mode easier to use, put it on the bottom menu so I can easily access it.
Better yet, let me set it to automatically turn on when it hits a user designated threshold, i.e. when the phone hits 40% automagically turn on low power mode...

Gary
Hi gary, just tell Siri to shut it down. She´ll do it.

Content blocker in safari alone is the feature that makes me not want to try other phones. Browsing is crazy fast. I use it with "peace" extension.
