ok, who's betting on macbook/macbook pro refreshes tomorrow?

love to see that... but could they handle that + iphone? and would they even want to take the store down while so many people are buying the iphones?

I doubt tomorrow but they aren't selling iPhones online this time around so that wouldn't matter anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an Apple 'media event' late next month; followed by a scheduled shipment in September (post back-to-school promotion).

omg i really want a mbp already
no new updates tommorow, apple still has the "The 2.6 New Macbook pro" pics on the apple.com

Maybe next round

"Meanwhile, Intel's next major processor revision starts in late 2008 and continues into 2009 with Nehalem. Nehalem promises dramatic speed increases and increased multi-threading and multi-core designs. Nehalem processors suitable for notebooks, however, will not likely arrive until well into 2009."

I'm waiting for the MacBookPro to have an easily replaced hard drive like in the MacBook. Curved edges would probably leave even less room inside a MBP. Since I'll have to wait for this useful feature, I'll just get another year or 2 out of my PPC 17" PowerBook. The PowerBook actually does a faster ob of internet downloading than my Intel Mac Pro.

It sounds as if it will be 2009 before the MBP catches up to the current iMac in the speed arena. Thesmall speed bumps that we have with the Intel products are small just like the IBM/Motorola PPC time. The only time I get better performance with my Intel Mac Pro than with my PPC PowerBook is when I run Windows on my Mac. Since I don't need to use Windows on my PowerBook as much I'll use my much malined PPC for at least another year.

Wanting to update, but ready, willing & able to wait for a better update.

I highly doubt there will be a MBP refresh tomorrow. The earliest I'd guess is July 29th for the update.

There will not be a MB/MBA update tomorrow. The integrated graphics chip for the Montevina is not ready and wont be released, and I haven't heard when it'll be ready from any of the tech news sites I read (DT, Inq, Fudzilla, etc). This could easily go into the end of August or the beginning of September.

There is a small chance of a mini update, but that would just bring it to X3100+Penryn (last generation), probably 2.1GHz would be the only model. And to be honest, I wouldn't expect this until after MBs get upgraded (the new chips MBs will probably run 2.4 and 2.26Ghz at 25W).

HD iSight?

does anybody know when blu-ray and HD iSight is coming?

The HDiSight will probably be the new Logitech Quickcam Ultra Vision for Mac. After Steve Job spent a lot of time telling us that FW cameras were great & USB2 cameras were a piece of trash, he has eliminated the FW iSight & replace it with a piece of junk USB2 camera. So why wait for Apple to do anything as it will only be a copy of a Logitech or other USB2 camera.

In many things Apple, under Steve Jobs, likes to follow the Linux/Windows systems. When it comes to design & looks Apple leads the way. When it comes to early adopters Apple is continuing to trail others. Apple was an early adopter of DVD RAMs but since then they have decided to be a follower in this area. The MacBookAir may be the direction that Steve Jobs wants Apple to go, .e. no CD/DVD internal drive. BluRay external for those that want them may be a possibility, but don't hold your breath. Just like I don't hold my beath for an easy to chang Hard Drive in a MacBookPro.

Breathing still,

I'm guessing updates will come during Mid/Late August. By then, the iPhone buzz will have slowed down enough to allow for an update.

How good is the GMA X4500? Is it really as good as a low-end dedicated graphics card? I've heard rumors of such a thing.

So then why is Sony planning to ship a Centrino 2 notebook with integrated graphics in early August (the SR with the Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4700MHD)?

Also, it's about time for Apple to offer dedicated graphics in the MacBook. Maybe not in the "standard" model, but it should certainly be an option. I can't think of another full-size (ie, not an ultraslim) 13" notebook that doesn't even have dedicated graphics as an option.

QFT

And yet Apple has refused to listen. There are so man people (like me) who want a dedicated graphics card, and yet don't want to spend $1000 extra to get a MBP, with extra power and features they won't use. And including that combo drive on a $1300 computer is enough to drive anyone crazy. Who sells combo drives even on $500 computers?

Exactly. Apple is really lagging behind on this one.

Initial rumors of the card state that it is superior to the Geforce 8600M G mobile chipset however with the video card being so new it's hard to stipulate it's real performance.

However I would love to see it in a Macbook, it would be a nice update from the X3100.

Because Sony is talking out their ass thats why - they sent Anandtech a laptop with Montevina inside...

Of all companies, Sony actually came through at the last minute and shipped us a Centrino 2 notebook. Unfortunately, in its pre-release state the system is far from perfect. It actually draws more power than our Santa Rosa Refresh notebooks and we couldn't even get the GM45's hardware accelerated H.264 decoding to work properly, severely limiting what we were able to do here today.

Doesn't sound like it'll ship in 30 days...

Not exactly true. The MBA was the first to receive intels special reduced size core duo and associated chipset. The MBA led all other laptops in sales this year. Why couldn't the MBA get the Montevina?

Besides intel must have sufficient quantities to allow the release because many other vendors are announcing new laptops soon based on the new Montevina platform.

No, it wasn't. The MB and MBP line sold considerably more than the MBA. That is not to say that the MBA was a failure, in fact is a success for Apple, but it is by far not their highest selling notebook. Plus, it's not a good example. The chip used isn't an an early release chip made in small batches for the high-end Mac Pro to help market both Intel and Apple. It's a chip Intel dusted off for Apple when they asked for a smaller size and realized they had one waiting in the wings pretty much ready to go.

Again, no. Intel doesn't have to have sufficient quantities right now because other vendors are preparing for the release in August. Plus, while most vendors sell many, many more units than Apple, these vendors do most of their sales with older tech CPUs. Apple converts an entire line at one time. To back up my point...

Unfortunately, product won't be shipping until August and review samples aren't exactly available so what follows can barely be called a preview.
