I'm personally praying for new MBPs in late July or early early August. I need a different keyboard than the stupid one that they are currently using.

its times like this you wish you were a pc user... sigh.. :/

Not even close! Haha. The beauty of the Mac is Mac OS X. Sure, I love the sleek hardware, the attention to detail, the 'synergy' between hardware and software, but if my MacBook Pro ran Windows... it would just be a Windows machine.

Most people don't need to have bleeding edge technology right this very moment. Intel just announced the processors, give Apple time to make the right business decision. They are a business, remember?

What decision is there to make? They have to go to the new chipset eventually. Also, they've had time, it's not like they just learned about it with the announcement, Intel has been providing them with specs and prototypes for months.

Oh my god, I don't know how much longer I can take this!

I like the idea of black aluminum.

With that said, I'm excited to see Montevina updates.

If there's an update soon, and it isn't a redesign, I don't know if I'll be disappointed or not. We'll see.

Why would you want new MBPs that don't have new processor in them? Are you looking for just a case change or did miss the part where Montevina won't be out for over a month, there are still plenty of issues with the platform.

Eh, I would like to see a new Blackbook, too. But somehow I'm afraid Apple had declared the Oreo look as the new black.. (iMac/ MBA) and throw away the all black look.

I'm definitely looking forward to a new MBP and I'm hoping for an HD iSight, Bluray and easy HD access like on the MB. I can wait another 2 months though cause I still haven't sold my original 17" MBP that my new one replaced so I need to sell that first.

ok, who's betting on macbook/macbook pro refreshes tomorrow?

love to see that... but could they handle that + iphone? and would they even want to take the store down while so many people are buying the iphones?

Doutful; if there was a refresh anytime soon - there would have already been an update being sent out to developers to test. Since there has been no rumours about 10.5.5 in testing or beginning to test - I'd say its going to be at least another month or two away.

Am I correct in understanding that there are now slot-loading bluray drives available, it's just a question of whether or not they're low-power enough to appease apple?

Apparently so:

But that doesn't mean you can play movies; to play movies with maximum resolution etc. Apple would need to implement the 'secure path' technology which exists in Windows Vista.

You answered your own question. When to update is the decision to be made. They have to consider many factors: remaining stock of previous generation chipsets, demand, quantity available at whatever time they decide to move to the new chipset, price, competition...

It isn't a simple yes or no decision. They will make the decision that they believe will make them the most money. Whether we agree with it or not doesn't really matter.

Of course I would like to see them adopting the newest technologies right away, with the stipulation that it doesn't cause stability issues. We all know how Rev A Apple products can be, we don't need Revs B and C getting buggy as well.

No, Apple needs to get the content providers to agree that Macs are allowed to play the content (with whatever technology is there). The cost that the video industry is offloading onto PC makers and the makers of graphic cards and in the end onto consumers for no consumer benefit whatsoever is enormous, and it serves no useful purpose whatsoever.

i'm hoping the revamp macbook starts shipping before the back to school deal ends and that it's eligible for the deal. i'm hoping...

is there a big apple event coming up that an announcement could possbily happen at? or does apple sometimes make up some "special" event for stuff like this? srry im new to this mac world thing. i dont even own a mac yet...this will be my first one!

Apple, please roll out the new MBPs ahead of when I start my first semester of college mid-August. :)

Need it as soon as possible.

In time for the holidays I reckon, would make sense everyone would buy a new MB and MBP for someone for christmas

students and their parents also buy new laptops before school starts in mid or late august. if apple decides to release the re-designed revamp macbooks around this time, they would catch both the back to school season AND the holiday season. especially with the back to school ipod touch deal...that should help move along the sales. not that they'll need it!!

maybe that's just me being optimistic about all this. haha!! sounds like a good marketing decision to me!! :p

What world are you living in that you think Apple will give all it's competitors 5 months free of their competition?

Apple revise to the new processors without fail every 4-6 weeks after their announcement. Montevina has been delayed so you can even reduce that number this time.

As soon as Apple can (ie. when the iPhone business isn't going to interfere), they will release the new MBPs. I'd be very surprised if that was later than mid-August, and not at all surprised if it was this month.

My point exactly...

Apple is ripping us off.

Debatable, but you can definitely see Apple taking a generous amount of profit on certain items. I can mention one that no one has a defense for: Ram.

Slot loading drives cost more than your typical drawer type drives, but I doubt the per unit cost is enough to justify the cost Apple adds to the price tag. The simple fact is that Apple doesn't need to justify the cost of a particular model. We'll buy it anyway. They know it and we know it.

Apple isn't very "overpriced" compared to other OEMs so just take it as paying for better service. I'll keep remind myself of that next time AppleCare swears that my mouse isn't under warranty when I'm holding a "One Year Limited Warranty" sheet from inside the mouse box. Ahh.. time for my kool-aid break and reality distortion field tan, the nice gentlemen in Apple t-shirts said so. :apple:

Coulda, shoulda, woulda - it doesn't mean anything. When Apple has 10% of the marketplace - the movie industry are quite happy to be stubborn and refuse to serve 10% of the marketplace. They've demonstrated their refusal to provide world wide availability of their music time and time again to online music sellers.

Waiting on the Core3 and for AAPL>200. That way, I can sell some stock and buy the new Core3, whenever it arrives and is "tested" by the gen1-gotta-havers. :D
