Well, I loaded OSX on my msi wind, and it seems to run fine. I have a friend that uses a 17" MBP at work and he was surprised at how it ran on it. Also it will have the dual core version version of the Atom

And x64 bit extentions too. The Netbook version of the processors are only 32 bit. The Desktop Dual Core are x64.

The only way I see an Atom with the Nvidia GPU capable of decoding HD is for a new AppleTV. That 1GHz Intel that Apple gets special has got to be considerably more than the 1.6GHz Atom that Intel offers.

As previous posters mentioned, the MB's MoBo can fit into the Time Capsule sized device. That is very interesting, if true. This would mean that Apple can lower costs associated with research, design and production, and perhaps we'll then see a Mac mini with an update cycle that mirrors the MB.

I just hope that apple's infact planning to use the platform with it's :apple:tv

It makes zero sense to replace the mini with this.

What applications did you test? Just web surfing and text processing? If yes, then a PIII 500 will make you have same feeling, jut give it 1-2gb memory.

I'm sure it will couple with macrumors sarcasm processing and PIII 500 processor is nearly the same size as a whole netbook.

And no it won't play wolfenstein 2009 granted. Or will it...

Yeah, this is NOT for the mini unless Apple's lost their marbles (though people don't seem to care when they do...)

It's got to be for the Apple TV or a new product. Hopefully the latter, as that's far more exciting.

For the Apple TV, this might make sense as I assume with GPU acceleration this would be powerful enough to handle 720p video.

<grooaaannnnn>
So upset at this. Almost a year between iMac updates? argh!

Yeah true, Im hoping the iMac updates might arrive a bit earlier, but no telling, I think if anything they should come by March.. Waiting sucks, and im hoping it'll be worth it.

I'm not a spec whore, but it does give an idea of the relative position of it compared to other processors - in that, its useful.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no, in this case it doesn't.
"Misleading" would be a more appropriate description, since the real world applications behave quite differently. And I prefer "real world" over "passmark" any time.

No it's not, quite obviously, and the Pentium 3 is a much more modern design in terms of the actual execution hardware than Atom.

Atom's as primitive as a Pentium 1 or like the Xbox 360/Playstation 3 CPUs.

Do yourselves a favor and have friends at Intel.

The Atom is not going into the Mac Mini.

The Atom is a 32bit chipset.

The Nvidia Ion platform is helping netbook maker, Intel, period.

Snow Leopard and forward are targeting 64 bit only platforms, including the iPhones which ARM Cortex-A9 is 64 bit.

Wow! Your friends at intel are giving you information that has been public for months so you can brag about it on a mac rumors forum?

With friends like those, who needs enemies.

Everybody does realize that under Snow Leopard, the NVIDIA chip set will be used for processing as well don't they?

The importance of the CPU will be diminished.

Maybe, but that'll be a very low term thing if it happens. All any of this is is a shift to using two types of CPUs in one system optimized for different things. There will be the need for both types to be powerful for the foreseeable future.

I hope the new iMacs have a 9600 Nvidia chip, because the 9400M im pretty sure is slower then the current HD2600 Pro...

lol this is so fake. $500 for an atom based computer without a monitor? And $600? Wheres the extra 100 bucks coming from? They cant raise the specs high enough to justify $100 while still using an Atom. Atoms are not suitable for normal computing anyways, they were made for netbooks to do really light tasks.

This rumor sucks.

Rubbish, I like to see Windows XP running on a P1

It's quite obvious that the poster did not mean an actual P1, but rather the CPU design. The P1 was manufactured in a antediluvian process and had an equally outdated infrastructure. Transplant its design into a modern environment, throw in a few tweaks here and there, atach an SSE execution unit, and e voila, there is the Atom.

It can't be fake, its reported from Toms hardware, a trustworthy site imo.

I'm with you stainlessliquid.
This is just a dumb rumor which belongs on Page 2.
If.....if this is true then Apple are out to lunch.

Bloody hell Steve or whoever is in charge now...get yer finger out and lets see some damn computers. This is really becoming annoying.

Yeah, but I think they've just got the product wrong. This has to be for Apple TV, or an entirely new product (or else Apple just thinks people are stupid...)
