These are signs of Moores Law running out.

Intel will try to milk those remaining nodes for a little longer so they can come up with other ways to increase performance. Die shrinks may be over for a while.

Interesting... I find it's just the opposite. I find information gets out in the US more than overseas, either through leaks or standard channels, because:

a. There are a lot more lawsuits/legal action in the USA than Europe, which often results in "closed" information being revealed publicly.

b. If you are familiar with GAAP, stockmarkets, regulatory bodies, etc., you would be aware that the US is one of a small number of countries (the UK being the most notable other) that traditionally have had the most rigorous reporting standards for public corporations.

c. I wonder how you could possibly have objective evidence that
Europe is more open than the US. You would have to have some insight into what information is being revealed vs. what is successfully kept secret. Are you assuming, perhaps, that because you hear less, then there is less to hear?

What i was talking about are things like corruption, kick backs, special deals between companies. A lot of the time business owners are forced in to these situations by outside forces. And in Europe these things were very obvious and impossible to ignore. Of course there is no paper trail, so unless there is a sting no one gets arrested. And you could not complain to anyone either unless you have connections of your own. After many countries joined EU they were forced to cut back and go in to the shadows while its better now its still pretty bad. In US these things are much less evident. There are always two sides of a story public one and a real one. Just like history, for example WW2 what US history books say differs from the ones Russia has and yet listening to people from small villages around Europe have a story that is different from both. That is why it is important to be observant and have your own facts first before believing News or government or what you see on internet i suppose including this post lol. As far as your points A and B i do agree with them, but do you really believe IF a corporation does something shady they will say "Hey, make sure you put that in a file! so we can disclose our questionable activities later and maybe get in some trouble" they try to hide it the best they can like Enron for example.

with broadwell and after, the limiting factor for battery life will be the screen of the device and not the processor. 14nm will use practically no energy.

Still waiting for updated rMBP's but as the wait keeps getting longer i keep coming up with reasons why i should just stick with my iMac for couple more years. But if its more than just a processor bump i will get it.

You might be kidding but i wouldn't be surprised. Strange things happen at apple behind closed doors.

Actually, Intel IS probably holding up the release.

Apple is/has been waiting for the TB 2 chips.

I wonder who Apple is waiting for the 4K monitor screens from?

I would just like a Haswell Mac mini please.

This is why I bought one in March! Back then, I was thinking the refresh would be at the end of the summer at the latest. Oh well, you're locked in now. Shouldn't be too much longer.

It is unclear whether Apple had planned to introduce Broadwell updates earlier, and whether Intel's delay will affect its future release plans. Apple's scheduled desktop updates, for its iMacs, will not be affected as they will incorporate updated Haswell architecture rather than Broadwell chips.

Still trying to decipher that paragraph, was Broadwell ever considered to be targeted for early-mid 2014.

You said it. I have to wait now. But my Macbook is killing me and I'd really like to able to run mavericks.

"researching" 5nm chips. Right. Like they couldn't go from 14 to 5 directly. Manufacturing methods and technology really advance that much in 3 years? More like a giant cash cow, milking every drop they can along the way.

I guess I understand the desire to have the most recent version when buying a new computer, especially with the release right around the corner, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Haswell won't bring hardly any tangible improvements to the Mac Mini line. Performance is only slightly better, and thermals are the same or slightly worse.

The big advantages to Haswell are mobile power consumption and the addition of new features to the chipset (ie native USB 3.0, more onboard SATA ports). None of this really affects the Mac Mini, as it doesn't run on battery power, already has USB 3.0, and doesn't have space for any additional SATA ports.

Wouldn't a Haswell/Broadwell option in the Mac Pro be useful for people who do not want a super expensive CPU but want a cheaper one that's still fast?

... but that would make too much sense.

So haswell is already outdated. Just wait until broadwell comes out. :p

And when that comes out, it's already outdated, they'll be announcing roswell, CPU reverse engineered from an alien craft!

Kind of reminds me of the cellphone industry before Apple came into play. Blackberry used to be the best, but for each new release, they would add something but remove something else, they would use technology that were already 5 years old and claim to be the latest and greatest, milking the cow without any need to innovate or to push for better products. They were very slow in improving their software and hardware specs. But when they actually made any improvements, they crippled it. Then they got the idea that if you wanted to un-crippled the bluetooth feature, you would have to pay extra for a software patch to enable that. What a joke.
