Performance per watt isn't what I'm basing any comparisons on, but I'm glad you feel that way. I like macOS, I don't like iOS-thats where I'll spend my money thank you. Best luck.

I know where I will spend my money-thank you.
I didn’t say anything about performance per watt. I said you can get 20% more performance than Intel at the same power, or you can reduce power by 20% and get the same performance as Intel. If Apple does either of those things there will be nothing to complain about.

If they start selling some el-cheapo Air MacBooks with ARM processors inside I'd be completely fine with that, I don't give a flying F what they decide to do with the products made for plebs. But if they decide to shove their arm processors into the MacBook Pros and iMacs then I'm out; I don't care how they're gonna spin it to the customers whether it's gonna be speed, power, or prices, but I cannot do my job without x86, so if the inevitable happens I'll simply be forced to abandon Apple and get myself something more mainstream.

If universal apps can't run on Intel (which is pure speculation), it would be good it they could run on the T2. Give all Macs made in the past year more longevity.

I think many people are missing something here:

What effect will this have on running Windows natively on the Mac (i.e. through Boot Camp)? I know not everyone does this, but many people do and I don't think this is going to be possible on an ARM based system is it?

I know there will be emulators that will pop up, there always are, but they consume overhead.

I've said it before and it bears repeating: Apple really really really needs to make hardware and software choices based on what's best for people that intend to use it as a mac... not those smaller subset of users that wish to run windows on it. Do what is best for your base. Windows users have options, they can actually buy any PC clone machine. Mac users have no other option. Don't make us pay a price to make those people happy.

I think an ARM in a Mac will do very well. We’re not talking about the same chip they put in their iPhone and iPad. This chip will obviously be bigger, more powerful and well suited for the Mac.

Possibly on the macOS side (I sure don't want iOS though), but how will Bootcamp suffer? That is my concern.

Ok, I see your point, but please see above. I want Windows in full fashion, not a high powered netbook.

I wonder what this means for the hackintosh community.

Or

Lock down Mac OS on apple Arm based and branded machines and sell unlocked Mac OS for build your own macs....boom

So this is how Mac will die.
To all saying cool and great arm gpus are fast and maybe even better that iris pro etc. well blame apple and their greed for not putting a dedicated gpu on the Macs.
As for cpu power don't make me laugh arm going against i7,...... not even against an AMD.
dude, Intel is struggling so much that their massive delays are no longer sustainable. Its a disaster just like G5 was. Back then everyone complained (including me) especially when AMD was much better at the time. Intel somehow managed to pull it off and was the king for a long time. Now, its the same situation, Intel is a mess and its time to move on. We need new architecture anyway as the obsolete one (x86 is called?) is not the way forward. We all know it so its time to start fresh. :)
ARM so far has been amazing and the progress is massive so until that hits a ceiling we can explore that, don't you think?
Intel is done - it will just be slow death but they will end up like IBM.

Two long and painful weeks later in the nearest Apple Store ... Excuse me sir do you still have any of those new MacBooks left? I'd like to purchase one.

??????! Not sure what you say 2 weeks later? I will never bug a Mac that can’t run Windows or their apps because it SEVERELY limits the machines capabilities. All it’ll be good for is iOS apps, Final Cut and any other very pro apps that bothered to make the transition. It’ll be a locked down POS. Only with such a pathetic market share no one will make any programmes for the machines.

Haha. I hope you were being sarcastic here. :D

Exactly… some of us have been through this mill before.
*sigh*

But are you suggesting that the switch to Intel was a bad move? I was there with you through all that. Everyone was surprised, and for the most part happy. Your frowning suggests it was a bad love, and that this one will be as well.
Change is scary to most people... human nature. But I think this move has been planned for so long that I doubt it will be as bad as people fear.

So you already know everything huh? Maybe it's a good time to invest or something?

Well if the day comes of it being locked down then it would kill hackintosh support.

Maybe time to spin MAC OS and let people build their own machines....worst case if x86 is killed.

Except the market share Apple has if the global PC market is so insignificant it’s hardly worth mentioning. I believe it’s still in the single figures.. the total opposite to the mobile phone market.
I believe this is a factor in why they want to move the Mac closer to that big, active iOS developer base.
