The issue isn't wheter people will pay an extra $32 for the Duo - The issue is on Apple's end. They won't give their low-end laptops the Duo, because it would hurt the sales of the MacBook Pro.

Also, I seriously doubt skipping the integration of an iSight would save a couple hundred dollars - webcams aren't exactly expensive. Keep in mind the standalone iSight is $149, and there's probably a pretty large profit margin there. My bet is the iSight for the MacBook Pro doesn't cost any more than fifty bucks to manufacture - probably even less than that.

you are right. I thought the iSight was more expensive than that, and you have to factor in making it smaller or moving the hardware. But it shouldn't cost them that much. Sony's built in webcam is only $30. I should have checked that.

I do still believe that apple should combine lines with the MacBook and the Pro. Then i think they will make an ultra-portable. To make the pro different from the regular they would probably give the pro a bigger hdd, graphics card, etc.

the materials don't cost a lot. for example the G5 Quad, $3000. The design costs more than the machine, probably $1500 - $2000 or even more.

another unrelated example: a pair of $150 nike shoes. more or less then $10 for the chinese to make. ( factories are down southern china, apple is down there too. )

What i'm trying to say is. Just live with it. Spend more for the better product. Isign? when was the last time they drop the price or change the design? LONG time ago? Source said "got to do something about it, just like the ibook, maybe ipod too..."

Agreed. Apple do lots of things to distinguish their lines and this would likely be one of them. I dont see the Book replacement getting a dual core unless its clocked down a fair wack compared to the MacBook

A textbook demonstration for this is when Intel produced 486s - and disabled to cache to segment the market with DX and SX (I think that's right) chips. It was cheaper to manufacturer all of them as the higher end chip, and then modify some to have the cache disabled, than to have two lines of production.

They still do that today, Celeron's are normally just high end chips clocked lower with half the cache disabled. Actually all Yonah's are built equally, just some run at higher speeds than others and are branded as such.

Me too, and just to precise my thoughts on Page 1-2 concerning the accuracy of the information.
It meant in a humoritic kind of way. The day I've posted nobody knew that an iLife '07 could be potentially be released next year (by seeing the huge files iWeb is producing, I'm pretty sure there must be an update next year).
So were are not sure about the iBook information, nore we are concerning the future iLife, but we all hope a little bit ;-) That was the whole meaning of my message !:D

proof? proof what my friend. 90 days away.

Apple pushed the macbook and imac out for the year 2006. Don't tell me they didn't.

What the hell is this supposed to mean? What have iMacs and MBPs got to do with it. And anyway AppleInsider have already said the Intel iBook is coming out in spring.

powermac_daddy said:
daul core
wide screen

Daul core? And AppleInsider told us it will be widescreen last year. Then to make matters even worse...

powermac_daddy said:
according to my source #415AP510SF

apple is going to release the intel ibook in April

100%

all the bullcrap codes will be fixed by then

that's all i can say here

powermac_daddy said:
That's all i wanna say. ibook in April? why not?

powermac_daddy said:
well. like i said before. ibook life is over, die.

So Apple will 100% release an Intel iBook but its dead. And this bit really cracks me up...

Isight? why not? bluetooth mouse? why not? whatelse? you name it.

Dear friend. Please read everything before you try to make fun of someone. What did i say in the beginning? the first post? can you read? do you speak english?

after many many replies.... I got tired of some of the stupid posts, then i said " ibook is dead..." coz people are going crazy, people don't believe it. I was just like... alright, let's end this conversation. ibook is dead, conversation end... do you get it?

well, remember my friend. read everything before speak your mind. Otherwise, people is going to laugh at You.

chicken out?
thats not called for

its just confusing the way that you've been typing

please stop insulting people

anyways the specs sound good... is the design going to be any different besides thinner and lighter? or is it going to follow in line with the powerbook =>Macbook pro... aka same design as the PowerPC model?

lol. Hard to believe how many people couldn't detect sarcasm in the 'ibook is dead' remark. Is this the same guy that told us about dual core powermacs and was right about it? Anyways, I believe him, whether he is just really confident or whatever. It makes sense. If they are in China it's so steve can say "And we are shipping them... TODAY!". Just don't insult people for being skeptical, there is so much rumour BS going around it's hard to know what to consider believing might be true ;)

Me too. Any word on the video card? Not onboard is it? I hate those.

My point exactly. We believe you, but we're skeptical because you could just as easily be making it up. Don't be offended, makes you seem defensive which makes us doubt you that much more. ;)

source:
1.5GHz
13.1" wide screen
standard momery: 512 MB
hard drive: 80 GB
thinner and lighter

So just to make sure it is a 1.5ghz single core right? (Because on intel's site they only manufacture a 1.5ghz single currently.) This would make sense because the reason why it hasn't been released yet is that intel hasn't started selling that chip yet so apple was smart not to release the laptop that houses it yet. Do you know what the case looks like at all? Not to push my luck but do you know about any of the other computer lines, specifically do you think that a mac tablet will be released sometime soon?

EDIT: I know that it was stated that it would be dual core but I'm just curious why intel hasn't stated that they will even make a chip to those specifications. Does apple have enough pull to get something cutom designed like that or will they just put in a dual 1.66 and slow it down?

I'd think a 1.5Ghz single should run the same as a 1.67Ghz G4. Although it would have a faster bus speed, making it around 2-3x faster than the old iBook. Still, I think he would probably put in the dual core Yonah.
As for graphics cards, didn't we decide the onboard style didn't have core-image? If so it would be a downgrade. Not likely. Expect a similarly featured card, with 64MB.

So excuse my ignorance but what does that source number refer to? Also what do you mean by bullcrap codes being fixed?

#415AP510SF

415 = San Francisco area code
510 = Oakland area code
AP = APple computers? (<- NOT 1337)
SF = San Francisco?

Just speculation...

Regarding the "bluetooth mouse" concept: could it be a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse? I'm sure we would all like that.

What does the "All bullcrap codes will be fixed by then" comment?

Anyone got a link to the post that predicted dual core powerbooks?

All yonah's, every last one of them, are identically made. Some just run faster than others. A 1.5GHz yonah is a slower 1.66GHz yonah which is a slower 1.83GHz yonah, which is a slower 2.0 GHz Yonah. They are all made equally, there are no custom designs, it's just that one runs slower than the other because of minute defects.

Also a lot of 1.67GHz Yonah's are just downclocked 2.0GHz chips. Intel sell more 1.67GHz chips and sometimes can't keep up demand unless they sell faster chips at slower speeds. That is why so many chips overclock so well, they are actually 2.0GHz chips downclocked, and why some chips just won't over clock so well, they are chips that wouldn't run faster but ran fine at 1.67GHz.

Except of course for the single core variant and the performance edition of the dual core. ;)

Oh, and it's "Yonahs" - plural, not possessive. Back to English class for you! :p :D
