Apple will sell their soul for $50 reduction in prices? How cheap do you think they are? This isnt about Apple competing (sorry I have to use the car dealership analogy) against Daewoo. Their market is the likes of Mercedes and BMW competing against each other, do you see silly stickers all over their products?

I really wish people wouldn't use the BMW==Apple analogy. BMW sell more boring midsize cars than Ford in the UK and I'd guess most of Europe too. Just because the yanks think they're some premium product because of their own dismal attempts at cars doesn't make them special.

BMW's boring in most of Europe? You know where BMW is made, right?

Wow, I was thinking that they would replace them because they looked tacky and outdated.. even when they first came out..

..so to see the replacements being more of the same begs the question.. why are they wasting money on this re-branding of the same brand?!?

Was hoping for something a lot more sleek.

That's what I was thinking too. They could have given me the millions they've probably spent on their new logo and I'd have come up with something better than that in a lunchtime. The new font is quite icky too - like some badly designed art student design from the 80s.

But laser engraving on the bottom of a PowerBook, or even under the battery, near the serial numbers etc would be a good compromise.

Agreed - I think that in a relatively out of the way location like that, people wouldn't have too many issues with such an engraving. Personally, I think it would be cool, although I know others may not. Mind you, for those people who detest Intel icons, in sticker form, engraved or otherwise, perhaps they simply shouldn't support the brand then and not buy any Intel Macs in the first place! :p ;)

i see no power pc stickers on my iBook...

Yes, but keep in mind that is one of Intel's "things", one of the things most associated with Intel. Of course, as the original article stated, this may very well be changing... :)

I think a lot of those moaning about them putting the stickers on there in the first place would still end up buying a mac, even if it were laser engraved on the front and replace the apple logo on startup.

It is a valid reason to moan though. I currently am of the opinion, I would like them to ship without Intel stickers/engraving, but if they came with them, so what? I can peel a sticker off and, as already discussed, engraving would more likely be out of sight, out of mind.

BMW is a very nice luxury car. Many people consider them very nice, good cars, especially in Germany.

And for the record; ford stinks.

But they aren't. They outsell Ford and Vauxhall (owned by GM) in the UK and are often cheaper and have less features than the equivalents from other manufacturers. Same in Germany. Common as muck. It's all marketing bollocks and idiots believing some 1.8l rep-mobile is the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'.

If you want a good car you buy an Audi anyway.

audi rocks :D

I personally like the new logo look. Much better IMO. Anyway I couldn't care less if there was a sticker on my Mac. It would soon be off with a damp cloth, like all the other logos when I used to buy PCs.

Those are my feelings as well. It definitely isn't something which is going to influence me one way or the the when it comes to purchasing an Intel Mac.

Interesting Intel factoid abut the sound in those commercials - I had an opportunity to go to an Intel facility back in May (nothing computer/IT related so I don't have any scoops on that type of thing) for a couple of days and at occasional times during the day that Intel jingle plays softly over the loudspeakers throughout the complex and as a reminder for workers to stretch and get up/move around to help with ergonomics issues. I thought it was so freaking strange the first time it happened - All of a sudden all the Intel employees got up and starting stretching and stuff in the middle of a discussion, and the people from other companies (like me) just kind of sat there dumbfounded. Seemed like some kind of crazy psychology experiment! :p

I have to say though, before I left I actually thought it was a good idea. Sometimes people get so caught up in their work you can forget to keep yourself active and break away from the computer screen.

So yes, I was participating in the stretch-sessions before I left! :D But anyway, that's what I will always think of when I hear that sound now.
Hmm. Thanks. That really is interesting. Amd pretty cool. Hmm. Maybe I'll start streching when Intel commercials come on and such. :D That is pretty cool... I know it'd weird, but that impresses me about Intel, that they did something cool like that. Sort of like the cool, laidback work atmosphere that Google, has... not that I'd know, haha, just heard. Maybe someday I could work for Google. *drifts off into Dreamland* Did you know that they advertise for people who want to apply for jobs at Google in Scientific American? There's some cool link you can go to to apply and look at the different positions... of course you have to be pretty brilliant in math and technology and the like, and totally on the cutting edge of that stuff. Hmm... maybe I could be an intern someday or something... that would be soo awesome. But, meh, I'm getting ahead of myself... and this isn't the Google-love forum or anything.

I think that jingle would remind me to get up and find another job if I worked there. That would be more annoying than the constant Windows startup chimes you get throughout the day in an office listening to people reboot their PCs forgetting they've not switched the sound off.

Hehhhehehhh...it was "interesting," that's for sure!

Seems like a reasonable compromise between both worlds. I too, am puzzled why they pushed for this new change when there really isn't much of a change (and the stickers still look like crap imo).

And so am I.
:D

Yeah. I'm a snob too. :p :D Let's all form a little Mac snob club!

But. But. I think it's cute. :( Haha.:) Oh, um, definitely only the Intel thing only... the PC thing is totally annoying.

You know, Steve Jobs used it. :D You guys all know that already?... I just found it out about a week or 2 ago, haha.

"Apple's market share is bigger than BMW's or Mercedes's or Porsche's in the automotive market. What's wrong with being BMW or Mercedes?" -Steve Jobs

So, personally, the BMW analogy reminds me of Steve.

I presume he's only talking about the US market and completely forgetting the fact that BMW, Mercedes and Porsche have much larger markets outside of the US on which their fortunes are tied. Apple doesn't have that so the analogy is a false one.

I could see an aluminum black PowerBook with the Intel logo engraved, kind of like how the apple logo is engraved on an iPod. Tha's just my opinion though.

yeah, I am glad its gona be gone! It looked so horrible on brand new computers :) But then again, why would I care? I use a mac

Laser etching/monochrome sticker on the back/bottom would be fine for me, and the new logos are alright, if not totally unique/descriptive (one tiny word to separate single and dual cores???). Depends if Intel would be satisfied with this or not.

Agreed BMW sucks, only newly rich and lotto winner buy those. Want a good car Audi is the way forward. But then thats part VW, which I dont like much either. ah well cant win. get a motorbike instead.

i think laser etch logo would be a good idea for the new laptops if theres gonna be one. Just so much hype is happening around jan, sounds too good to be true.
