Oh my god you lazy bum.
It's my contribution to the environment, silly.

Wow, great deal at MacMall.
For $1849, you can get a 24-inch white iMac with a 2.33 GHz processor, and at the Apple store you get a 24-inch Al iMac with a 2.8 GHz processor, twice the RAM, and a bigger HD for $1799. Ooh, wait...you get a crappy printer and Parallels at MacMall too.
I suppose I feel bad for retailers stuck with old inventory, but I feel worse for the ignorant schmucks they sucker into these "deals."

my way is more GREEN!!!!You can always sell it on e-bay and someone would have bought your 2GB kit.
125 USD for RAM, 50-60USD back from ebay sale, gives you 75 bucks for a 4GB kit. You have spent $200... I do not see an environmentally good thing here.
It is a good upgrade as I just ordered the 3.06Ghz model with 4 gigs of RAM. Guess what, my dual 2.0Ghz G5 died last night. A perfect timing?
the Apple returb Aluminum 24" iMac for $1399 and the 24" Extreme for $1599 are good deals.
With this special revision of SR, Apple could go all the way until Nehalem comes to light.
The quad-core mobile Penryn is due this September so there is no reason to think the iMac will not get it, and Montevina, in its next update. This will allow the iMac to jump to the Nehalem processor on the Calpella platform Q2 2009.

I do not understand your question. Cantiga is the code-name for the Intel Mobile 45 Express chipset that is part of Montevina, which is the code-name for the 5th generation Centrino platform. Calpella is the code-name for the 6th generation Centrino platform and it will start off with Nehalem processors. How would using Cantiga allow Apple to move to Capella?

Oh blasphemy! Macs last forever - they never die. I keep hearing that PCs are disposable, and Macs are extremely high quality and never stop.
Did you check that the power cord is connected? Surely Macs aren't becoming disposable items too....
Sounds like you got a 'special update' from the mothershipapple
.
i bought my 3.06 yesterday. Good machine. Gets very warm but stays very quiet. In any event, these processors are overclocked peryns.
The original article cited Mac Mall rebates as some reason to buy from them. Don't count on getting them, though.
I bought my first MacBook last summer from them and there were four rebates in force for the things that I bought. *They* emailed me the coupons while I was on the phone with them placing the order. I followed their instructions *to the letter* and furnished copies of everything that was request. TWO of the rebates were answered with a letter from them stating that they did not recognize the rebate program. After that, I surfed the web to find that MacMall is about 50% on actually honoring rebates.
Buy your Mac on technical justification wherever you buy it from. Buy it from MacMall if it's a good deal on its own. But *don't* count on actually getting a rebate from *them.* Me, I'm never buying squat from them again. Once bitten, twice shy..

I picked up a 2.8Ghz 24" last night, and it seems sweet. I haven't had a chance to do much yet, but it doesn't seem to be noisy or hot.
