Show me an Intel laptop that can run at full performance on battery as it does while plugged in, all while maintaining 12+ hours of battery life.

Only then I will believe that they have reached the M1 tier of superiority.
Somebody showed a video a page or two ago that the same thing happens to the M1 Max MacBook - it lasted barely more than a hour at full load.

What I care about is battery life in the real world with my workload. I have Intel and M1 Macs and the battery life on the M1 MacBooks is just insane compared to my Intel Macs.

Best battery life on an Intel laptop that I've seen is the LG Gram 17. But the CPU is weak.

I don’t get the Intel hate. You’ve got your Apple silicon. Who cares what Intel does? This is more of that “there can be only one” mentality that ruins innovation.

Intel has a history of cherry-picking models for comparison.
TBF, so does Apple. A business wants to generate interest in their product, so naturally they frame it in the best possible light. It is what everybody does.

Yes, but what kind of speed would the M1 Max put out if it was clocked at 5 Ghz and drew 115 watts as well? It's like comparing Apples and Oranges. Put out a chip with similar specs and have it be faster and then I'll be impressed Intel.
That’s like saying “what kind of power would my Toyota Corolla produce if its RPM limit went to 15,000?”

It makes no sense.

I don’t care if intel’s processor is better. Where M1 truly shines for me at least is the neural engine, GPU, encoders/decoders. My macs used to be useless when I export my videos since the CPU and GPU are high. Now that these things are mostly off the CPU/GPU, it’s like a second computer in one. I can work on other things now because stuff is taken away from the CPU. It’s an entire package now.

On paper, in some scenarios/benchmarks my 2019 i9 iMac beats my Mac Mini M1. Yet it’s not. Why? Because a lot of stuff now is offloaded from the CPU and GPU. I noticed a dramatic improvement over my iMac. $700 mini beats out my $4,500 iMac.
Yes, modern computers have finally caught up to the 1985 Commodore Amiga (Commodore gets little credit since they bought Amiga after it was designed). The Amiga was the first to custom chips as part of the overall design, using custom DMA-access chips for serial I/O (disks, ports), audio, and graphics. As a result the 68000-equipped Amiga ran circles around Macs using the same CPU.

No, the amiga was certainly not the first computer to use custom chips as part of the overall design.

Maybe you should overclock M1 Max since it's almost 3x slower but still runs at 100C+ than a 70W 3060.

That’s die temperature, whereas the external temperature is much lower. That’s how thermodynamics works - Since 100C is the design temperature for all silicon die, there’s no need to run the fan and transfer heat to your crotch so long as the die temperature is where it is supposed to be.

*in unoptimized workloads.

Maybe you should include an x86 cpu in your measurement since the Max is an SoC.

Muh PC must win tho!

Some people have difficulty conceiving of a use for computers outside gaming.

some people have difficulty understanding that since the dawn of computing, computers have been able to excel at both until the Mx architecture.. Now you are relegated to playing phone games on your $3k computer because apple will not use some of their 3 trillion dollars to be competitive in the gaming market (like microsoft). If you do not like games, fine, but you shouldn't embarrass yourself by spouting some pseudo elitist tripe because we point out the flaw in the machine you overpaid for.

please point out what your ubercool Mx machine can do that my 2019 i9 cannot.

1. Oh no, I’ll lose out on the latest AAA scam garbage. Woe is me.
2. My $3k computer won’t burn my legs while I’m doing my freelance work.
3. That 3 billion is market cap, not revenue, please understand how that works before you spout nonsense
4. Gamers won’t ever accept anything Apple
5. Lmao elitist, coming from anyone versed in gaming culture that’s hilarious.
6. The M architecture would excel at gaming if games were made for it. There’s nothing inherent in it that makes it “bad for games” besides availability.

I’m sorry that I touched a nerve, and that you feel threatened by the idea that there’s more to computers than games.

Is the Fox and the Grapes your favorite from Aesop?
I value my time and money, but if you’re into buggy unfinished games, then you can enjoy the latest Battlefield release. Or maybe Cyberpunk, or buy a few more cosmetic cases for Overwatch (don’t get near the devs though!).

I know exactly what I’m missing out on, thanks. It’s why I stopped gaming in the first place.
Starbucks not providing tables now?

quit deflecting and tell me what your M will do that I cannot do with my i9.
i9 laptop or desktop? I just said I’d rather not burn my legs. And sitting in a lay-z-boy is much more comfortable than a chair.

If you’re getting at a contest of who can play the most games, then you win, congratulations! ? I’m just replacing my desktop and laptop with something more powerful and flexible than either.

If you feel superior because you can play more games then that’s on you I guess. I grew out of that mentality years ago.

Tomb Raider, Metro, Factorio are mobile games now? You do realize that “mobile games” also includes Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Grand Theft Auto which were console games right? And I personally don’t care anymore about the AAA gaming industry. All this sudden NFT talk instead of making your game run well. The fact that FF7 Remake runs better on my base PS4 than on my friend’s 3090 is ridiculous with those micro stutters and some frame drops. But NOPE let’s focus on NFT instead of performance and push out bad ports. I’d rather keep playing Stardew Valley or Factorio or Terraria (which are on macs) that I have 500+ hours in each vs a Call of Duty that has 10 hour single player.

There is ZERO….absolutely zero chance that even if Apple buys and gets the biggest game in the world that it will suddenly shift things. I have 300 games in my Steam library full of Windows titles. How would I suddenly be able to play those? Microsoft has this advantage where I can play games still in Windows 11 that the game released in 2001. Without emulation.

nice cherry picking. even if one doesn't crave AAA games there are still soooo many other great games that M toters miss out on.

my i9 has never burned me.

so I guess you cannot name anything. we are done here I think.

wut? , you asked i delivered. quit deflecting and tell me how your i9 can run appstore apps.....ahh thats what i thought.

ah, you are speaking iOS apps? yes I will agree that I miss some of the apps I sideloaded on my M1 when Im using the i9 macbook pro. But these are iOS apps that M toters cannot download legitimately anyway like gv connect, siriusxm, youtube, youtubetv, etc.
