nice cherry picking. even if one doesn't crave AAA games there are still soooo many other great games that M toters miss out on.
Yeah? Then why does the Mac gaming convo always revolve around AAA titles whenever the conversation comes up? I’ve pointed out quite a few old gems that are available and a few smaller games in many threads and always get dismissed.
my i9 has never burned me.
“Werks on my machine :^)”
so I guess you cannot name anything. we are done here I think.
Mac v Mac? More performant than last Intel iterations.

Mac v PC? Integration with my iPhone, UNIX-based, I can open a file in two different apps, the UI doesn’t make me wanna gouge my eyes out, better window management (perfect with Magnet!), not having to uninstall candy crush when Microsoft feels like sneaking it in, Siri > Cortana, better midi control and audio pass through, APFS > NTFS, not having ****in Edge as a pdf viewer, quick view is bae, having tabs on the file windows, better touchpad control, not being interrupted with forced updates, not having constant ****ing popups holy ****, leave me alone Microsoft I’m not gonna use Bing over DuckDuckGo, or I’m not gonna use edge over firefox.

Happy?

I wouldn't tote a "pc". I prefer both OS, thats why I carry the 2019 and the M1 sits in my closet.

all irelevant to me as I tote a Mac so unaffected by pc probs. as I said, I can match anything you do on your M and do more. I will say that my M battery life is better but I am rarely far from electricity.

I’m not far either, but not having to get up off the couch or chair appeals to me because I’m a lazy ****. As well as being able to replace my 5,1 and my 2016 mbp. Why be tethered to an outlet when you have a laptop? Enjoy the performance anywhere in the house, outdoors, wherever you want.

Windows is only a tangible benefit if you play a lot of games in my opinion. Or if there’s software that doesn’t run on Mac. But if that’s what you’re most concerned with then a PC is the better option.

I feel bad for all the comments defending their i9 Mac.. What will you all do now going forward? Or is it more trying to justify their buyer's remorse for getting an i9? Don't flame me either, I have a 16" i9 (work provided) and a MacBook M1. Love both, but the future is very clearly Apple Silicon going forward, so jump on board or buy a PC in a few years. Vehemently defending Intel in this comment section won't bring Intel back to the Mac

some people have difficulty understanding that since the dawn of computing, computers have been able to excel at both until the Mx architecture.. Now you are relegated to playing phone games on your $3k computer because apple will not use some of their 3 trillion dollars to be competitive in the gaming market (like microsoft). If you do not like games, fine, but you shouldn't embarrass yourself by spouting some pseudo elitist tripe because we point out the flaw in the machine you overpaid for.

please point out what your ubercool Mx machine can do that my 2019 i9 cannot.

The dawn of computing?

How did you game with punched cards and magtape?

For those that want Intel, you can just do a Hackintosh. A Threadripper would do nicely.

Totally agree (look at my signature), though I wonder for how much longer will Hackintoshing be possible... (ie. Apple Silicon-only macOS release, kind of like Snow Leopard being Intel-only - just a matter of time)

games and niche software that does not run on macOS but I do all of my "work" on the macOS side of the computer.

Macs weren't worth the plastic they were made from before moving to Intel.
This is the view of a person that is clearly a windows user and sees no value in MacOS. Yes, Intel brought Windows to the mac. And yes that was fantastic. As a MacOS user, and someone who has made a career from using the Mac and MacOS for over 30 years, the PowerPC versions were amazing for their time, and worth every penny. Your myopic view, is frankly, myopic.

And if you want my personal picks for games worth your time that work on Mseries there’s Cities Skylines, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, DUSK, Bioshock Remastered, Endless Space 2, Civ 5, all through Rosetta but great nonetheless.

same here but my i9 does more so its my EDC.

I don't want intel back to the mac. I want apple to buy a game development house or Aspyr and get the game quality to match the quality of the M.

Planet Coaster.

I have been playing Civ since the original (friend of mine almost dropped out of college from playing so much). I prefer playing on ipad, now. Just as fast, and the touch interface makes it easier than the mouse. I need a zoo tycoon for M1 to placate my wife, though.

I would expect five years after the last Intel Mac ships.
If you look at the comparison page on Apple, you might get an idea when that might be. It looks like models that have cleared from stock lack a price or "buy" button. Currently, there are no Intel notebooks left. The 21.5" iMacs and iMac Pro are gone. All that is left are the 27" iMac, some Minis and the Mac Pro. I suspect that they may choose to farm out some of the residual stock to 3rd-party resellers if they clear the stock sufficiently before releasing M-series replacements. The Pro might be an unusual case, though, as I suspect the M1 Pro form factor will be significantly different – probably something more like a fat Mini.

And what if you're rasing both IPC and clock rate (which is what Alder Lake does compared to the previous generation)?
That depends. Could you have left the clock rate the same as it was in the prior generation and still yield greater performance with the IPC increase? If so, you’ve got a winner, your engineers are doing their jobs well and you can be assured that two years from now, you’ll still be seeing real IPC increases without having to crank up the clock rate.

Cranking the clock rate is a crutch. Once Intel’s ok with performance increases DEPENDING on cranking the clock rate, it’ll be REALLY hard for them to get their engineers off that horse. It’s happened to them in the past right before they were saved by Pentium III I believe it was… where the clock rates and dropped while IPC’s increased admirably.

Now, I do have to say it’s also understood that Apple does work in a different world from those other chip makers. Even if Apple misses their goals, the chips they produce and put in Macs will still be the fastest Macs anyone’s ever used, no goosing of the numbers required. Intel and AMD are in competition for mindshare so, in some respects are expected to communicate numbers at the bleeding edge even if shipping product will only vaguely match those numbers (they’re communicating to those who don’t care about the power envelope or plan to overclock anyway :). It COULD be that their lower performing systems actually don’t need all that much power and clock rate to match what Apple’s producing (given, they still have more cores). That would be a good thing, though I’m not sure when those are expected to ship.

If we finally get a look at actual shipping product for the low to mid end, though, and it’s clear that the focus has been more on clock and power increase, that will be an indicator that, for all the bonafide’s of their new engineering CEO, they’re back on the “just jack the clock and juice the power, it’ll be fine” bandwagon. It’s OK, but I wouldn’t say it’s “fine”. Another Skylake is always right around the corner.
