So sad. I was just at the Microsoft site to look around at the new Surface line. There's a nice new Surface Go 3 there. It's using Intel of course.

it has a 6 year old 14nm i3 :D. People love theirs (Go 2, same m3), but there's some complaints that they get so hot they burn you. I wonder why?

This is Microsoft mind you. These new machines aren't even available yet. Oct 5th or something

A little insight into how this is made/manipulated.

REAL INTERVIEW
Interviewer: What do you think of a touchscreen one a laptop?

Subject1: I am not interested in having a touchscreen on my laptop

Subject2: A touchscreen would not help me at all

Subject3: Why would I want a touchscreen on my laptop?

EDIT
Interviewer (from a different take): What is the number one thing you want on a laptop??

Subject1: a touchscreen

Subject2: a touchscreen

Subject3: a touchscreen

Voila, the magic of editing

Oh sure. The same people who want to change their RAM manually don’t know that 3-in-1 laptop/tablets exist. Like I’d believe that.

And if someone’s an avid gamer, they’re going to know very well what (and roughly how many) games are supported on PC, Mac, PS, Xbox, etc.
Yeah, that’s one of those been asleep for 40 days BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG stretches :)

Don't most Apple fans know that Apple will never invite you into their office and ask you your personal opinion about features in a laptop that they have already determined are not desirable in a laptop?

As one who has a Mac and a Lenovo on his desk side-by-side, I would have fun if they invited me in there:

Them: What are you missing in a laptop?
Me: An M1 processor.
Them: What about a touch screen?
Me: I have a laptop with a touch screen, but I barely ever user it.
Them: It could replace your iPad!
Me: I don't have or need and iPad. I have two laptops.
Them: What about two screens?
Me: I have two screens. One of them is a nice 32" display.
Them: Wouldn't you like to have one of these?
Me: Sure, if it's a gift. Can I get that with a Rysen processor? 😁

I'm sure they would have edited me out of the commercial.

I once worked on a similar project. We did in fact get the “unscripted” reactions we were looking for, but after filming *hundreds* of reactions and selecting those that met our needs.

On a different subject, I do not understand the concept of “Apple fans.” Are there people who root for one tech company over the others?

I guess the real social experiment is making a bad advertisement and seeing how many people talk about it
I mean, they’re NOT wrong :) It’s cringey to the point that Intel’s going to make a nice chunk of change from ad revenue. And, that must be the end goal because the Mac market just really isn’t large enough to make it worth their while otherwise.

I think the issue is moreso Windows than it is the hardware available. Am I going to give up macOS to buy one of these devices? probably not and I think most Mac users feel that way.

Intel makes chips. Apple makes an ecosystem and the devices to make it work. Does Intel really think they compare?
I totally agree with you. I mean it's SOOOO seamless it's not even funny how I can be on my MacBook Pro 16" and simply throw it onto the AppleTV 4K, or move the sounds from my speaker off of my laptop, to my airPod Pros, to just switching to AirPod Max, to the HomePod. Or to unlock my phone or my MacBook with my AppleWatch. Even use my iPad Pro to use as my second monitor to my MacBook Pro, etc. I mean, I don't have to deal with technical stuff. I use my MacBook Pro's window side bootcamp just to play some of the Call of Duty Warefare game, or any PC games, but that's ALL I would use it for.

I mean they are right about everything. The majority of Apple users being under a spell without the self-awareness they are in fact so. Yes, correct. Macs don't run 98% of games available for Windows (and Linux). Yes, that's painfully correct too. Macs more and more are locked down devices that's can't be upgraded (it's fine, just keep buying new ones). Yes, that's true. Macs are a rather basic clamshell design without much else going on there (it's fine, just buy an iPad too). Yeah, that's about right.

The game thing is why I recently left, Apple crushed every 32-bit game I had for their vain M1 iron grip control, and then I discovered with my new PC I can actually add a second SSD? I can add more RAM? I can change out the battery? Like, this stuff is okay and under warranty? Seriously? Wow was I in lala land a bit too long.

And everything runs like butter on a 3060! No more of this choking on a Radeon Pro and fussing desperately to reduce resolution and settings nonsense. No more thermal nightmares needing to point a fan at my MacBook Pro to keep it from throttling. God, it's been a relief, it really really has.
And that is why you signed up for MacRumors a month ago? To tell us all you switched away from the Mac? Suuuuure....

I like this ad because it is a great reminder of what we should be able to do with such high priced devices and machines. I have a MacBook that feels severely handicapped and can only use it for browsing and coding. YouTube and twitch videos are causing my fans to go nuts while using big sur.
Because “Intel”

To be fair, there is also anti-fanboy-ism as well. A lot of people would not touch apple products.
That’s an interesting point. There are folks that specifically wouldn’t touch anything Apple even if it was exactly what they needed. And, they’re not necessarily Windows or Intel fans (because Macs HAD Intel), they just hate Apple. If I had to guess, Steve Jobs must have spent most of his downtime traveling around the world kicking people’s puppies. OHhhhh, and I’m guessing the esoteric tech that enabled him to skip across the world overnight is likely the same tech that caused his untimely demise!! It all FITS!

In one part of the video a woman holds up the touch-screen equipped laptop and exclaims "so this could replace the iPad" and I just think, well no actually it can't because it doesn't have enough touch-input software available like the iPad.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of apps available for the iPad all built exclusively with touch in mind. The same is just not true on Windows. You literally cannot replace an iPad with a touch screen equipped windows system and have the same experience or even a similar experience. It's literally touch-first software vs your finger is now a cursor in a mouse-first interface.

You know what people with a Windows laptop do that has a touch interface? they use it to scroll web pages and documents sometimes. Emphasis on sometimes. It's just a really poor experience because of the giant chasm in software. Even if Windows gained 1,000 touch-first apps every single day it would never catch up to even half of the iPads catalogue that's just reality.

The problem with the comments is all the hardcore haters are hating cause they got just as surprised as the test subjects in the video. PC laptops are not as far behind (if at all?) as some Macrumor users want you to believe.

That is such a BS add... Now mention they would NOT be able to stay in the macOS/iOS world, and would have to deal with Windows.

Several coworkers where asking me about my new iPhone 13 pro max today and another coworker out of no where started harping about his 3 year old galaxy s8 is better. I don’t get it at all
