Crashed widgets? Forced Restarts? All that from widgets?! What kind of phone were you using? I can't speak for the cheap Android phones, but on a high-end Android phone I have never once seen a widget cause the phone to crash or even a widget crashing. What widget was this and on what phone?

NFC has added security (at least vs. contactless debit/credit cards) as phones are password protected.
How many times does such an emergency happen? I haven't paid for anything over the phone in years, it's all online nowadays. Plus, is there a reason why you can't just read it off your phone? You can minimise the phone app whilst in a call 😛
Do you think the same things when using your phone as a sat nav, camera etc? There's lots of what ifs, but my phone never does die when I'm out and it hasn't been stolen yet either. For peace of mind though there's nothing wrong with carrying a card as a backup. NFC is a convenience thing. It will be a long time until you can leave without your card anyway because NFC isn't that widely supported yet.
Nah there'd be lots of cries of "widgets done right" etc, I'm almost sure of it.
On this site back in the day, people used to say that we didn't need multitasking, it's only a phone etc etc. and now look...nobody says how unnecessary multitasking is.
I recently got an iPhone after spending several years with several different Android phones (most recently the Razr). I doubt I'll ever go back to Android at this point. iOS is just a better OS IMO. I have yet to have a crash or have to reboot, even after jailbreaking. Rebooting was a daily event with my Android phones.

Possible depending on Apple's execution. But from where I am sitting I wasn't a huge fan on widgets on android and I have no reason to believe I would like them on iOS either. I'm not tripping all over myself to jailbreak and install widgets so clearly the value is not there for me.
Personally I think Windows Phone does a far better job of providing information at a glance than any android widget.
As for me, I'm fine with that content being neatly tucked away in notification center, and keeping iOS clean and stable.
It's all down to preference, but I like having widgets with more features. The S Planner widget for the S3 can show my calendar for any given day in the widget itself. If I click the "+" button it opens up the add event button in the actual app.

No, you don't say. And that's been a terrible thing, right? iPhone 5 will break all previous sales records and be the top selling device just as the previous iterations have been. So I'm guessing it's a pretty good formula for success.
Let me guess, you had one of those 99 cent Android phones right? iOS apps crash more than Android apps
I just had the Razr Maxx for 6 months, not one single reboot or restart. User error for sure. Someone clueless like that should stick with an iPhone.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I'm out, my 3GS has been great for me- it has been really dependable and was awesome for the time, but I tried a Galaxy S3 in person the other day and they just feel light years ahead of iPhones.
Coupled with the awful experience my girlfriend and I had at the Genius bar two weeks ago and I think I'm done with iOS products. The 'Genius' spoke down to my girlfriend the entire time, refused to acknowledge the problem my girlfriend was having with her Mac and mocked her when my gf said she'd also had to have her iPhone replaced recently (for continually echoing during phone calls), asking if the phone and the computer were having the same problem, when it was an issue that clearly doesn't affect phones. Speaking to her manager yielded better results, but it was still an awful experience. It really upset my girlfriend, she sold her Mac and is now refusing to buy another Apple product ever again.
Come contract renewal time, I'll be getting an S3 (or possibly a Windows Phone 8 handset- depends what they're like). Unless, of course, the new iPhone is a absolutely amazing, which I doubt it will be after seeing IOS6. Plus I really don't want the downgraded Maps, which will no doubt be terrible in Australia for a long, long time, as Apple focuses heavily on the US.
While it's true that we on here don't represent the majority of consumers, I'm sure a lot of us are the ones who recommend phones to friends and family. I know my parents, brother and some of my friends will get what I recommend.

Anyone else notice the list of things that make the iPhone "better" are getting awfully short and irrelevant?
The only uncontested one left that I still consistently see is that iPhone sales surpass that of individual Android devices, therefore it's better.
It's cool if you prefer iOS/iPhone, but it seems to me rising to its defense is becoming increasingly difficult.

My Galaxy S2 suffered random reboots when I got it. I updated the firmware which fixed it, but that wasn't user error on my part.
You can't say that unless you know the circumstances.

Me either. Dont pay any attention to Technarky. He has nothing possitive to say about Android . Apparently he didnt know how to use them. Went thru 8 phones in 3 years. Im on my second in two years.
Exactly, and many here have said they would like to have widgets. Guaranteed this place would go nuts and say what a great thing it is that Apple did.
Even if that were true, that's enough. Are we really at the point where people are making fun of an operating system, saying, "Haha, the only thing your operating system has is APPLICATIONS!"

I mean the variety of apps. Some people get all caught up on the sheer number of them. However, most of them are complete useless crap like games. I am looking at the top paid and free apps in the app store right now on my iPad and there is not ONE important app in there I can't get on my Galaxy S3, not one. I think I can live without Snow cone maker and Wheres my Perry 🙄

If Apple did widgets first, it'd easily be used as a talking point against Android.
Got the Eris when it first came out. It was a POS. Then the Incredible. It was the best of the three I had. I ended with the Razr. I absolutely hated it. Too big, terrible battery and Blur.
You can claim user, but that sounds can fanboyish to me. I never rooted so I have no idea how anyone with three years of Android experience could screw up a non-rooted phone.

It was the original formula that got the iphone to were it is. It is the consumer following that has kept it selling like hotcakes. That has less to so with design amd more to do with loyalty, as long as each iphone adds a significant feature it will outsell the previous one. However, it appears to me people are expecting a completely new design. They are tired of the same old one. All those iphone 5 mock ups is proof of that.

I have widgets and have found them to waste power and eat up screen space. I can't imagine the short battery life people on an Android phone would have if they had a bunch of these widgets running at once?
Widgets can be useful for seeing data at a glance, but at what price?
