Hmm I never thought about that but it could be so.
I'm hoping for 5" because it would still be pocketable
The third-generation iPod touch is noticeably faster than the first-generation (I have both) and the graphics are also better.Still got my iPod touch 1G never saw a point in getting the 2G and really did not see a point in the 3G
I would like to note that the current iPod touch is listed as Late 2008 the only other time Apple did that was with the classic before it had a major update.
So maybe 4G will be worth it.
It just seems strange that if 4.0 were to follow the 3.0 and 2.0 cycle, why would there even be support for 3.2 on the new devices (just as the iPhone 3G devices started from 2.0 and didn't support 1.X etc.)
It makes perfect sense. In order for Apple to ship an iPad in March, they would have needed a stable OS (iPhone OS 3.x).It just seems strange that if 4.0 were to follow the 3.0 and 2.0 cycle, why would there even be support for 3.2 on the new devices (just as the iPhone 3G devices started from 2.0 and didn't support 1.X etc.)

They had to fork the code (3.2) independently of the iPhone/iPod touch (3.1.x) in order to get the thing running but when iPhone OS 4.0 comes around, all the devices should be back on the same source code branch.
Wait, the 3GS was the N88 and the next gen is the N89? But that's only one number bigger! It thought this was supposed to be an "A+" update.
I think that they wanted to reveal the big software update with the more established and succesful product. They introduced the iPad hardware, now they will introduce the updated OS as they always do in March and release it in June. iPad will still ship with 3.2, but will be able to upgrade with OS 4.0.
With a $20+ upgrade tax? they did it before
Also Apple, you need to start updating the iPhone on a 6-9 month cycle now or else you are going to be getting behind the competition! One year isn't going to cut it anymore!![]()
Yeah... the internal model numbers suggest a relatively minor update.
One of those earlier reports had also claimed, however, that the next-generation iPhone carries internal model number N90 instead of the N89 discovered in the iPhone SDK 3.2.
