International (EU, non-US) iPad 2 Shipping Dates, 1st "Prepared for Shipment" Status!

My Camera Kit is still showing "Prepared for delivery" - and STILL has a delivery date of 30 March. Funny, I don't see it here!

My iPad is now in Germany (I'm in the UK SnaPli!):
Koeln, Germany 04/09/2011 6:38 A.M. Package data processed by brokerage. Waiting for clearance.

..but the tracking info says there is an "Exception", described as an unforeseen event which may alter the delivery date. Anyone else seeing this?
I'm assuming it's a customs thing as it enters the EU but why would this be "unforeseen"?

Of course, altering the delivery date could mean earlier :D

I'm going to try and stay away from the computer for the rest of the day now ;)

iPad 2 - France

Hi

I bought on the French Apple Store online the iPad 2, the 25th, march (8:21AM GMT+1)
Estimated production delay : 2-3 weeks
Just after the payment, I received an email from Apple : Estimated production delay = 3/4 weeks !
And then the estimated delivery date has moved to the 4th of May.
I called yesterday at the Apple phone service, they told me they had a major problem in the EU distribution platform. But as it has been recently solved, the delays are about to be decreased. It impacted the whole EU distribution.
So he promised me I'll get soon an email about a new estimated delivery date, which should be very earlier.

I'm assuming the exception in Germany is waiting for customs to clear it, might be a tad slower as it was early morning on a Saturday when it arrived. No big deal though, it's at least in the right continent now :D

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the smart covers zerox17, as soon as the iPad was confirmed shipped I cancelled the smart cover which wasn't even prepared for shipment and re-ordered from the on-line store. The US site at least reckons it's been prepared for shipment and should be here sometime in the early part of next week. I'm still a TAD worried about Orange cover / Black iPad, normally I'm the most conservative picker of colour schemes you'll ever come across, but if it's horrible I'll use it as the travel cover and get a leather one for my birthday :cool:

It's so nice to see others getting their shipping notifications when my own order hasn't moved at all, no date or status changes whatsoever :rolleyes:

Maybe we should have a guessing game of who will be the last to get their shipping notification email from Apple 'cos I just may win that :p

Germany! I think ordering the ipad on its own might have been the right decision. If this thing keeps moving it could be delivered on monday! :D

Have you order a smart cover or any other accessories that says "not yet shipped" because now it should say "Prepared for shipment"
Then another 2-3 hours it should be shipped.

That's what happened to me with my smart cover. I first thought why they sending it again, checked on US store it says "prepared for shipment" hours later its shipped by some Technology delivery company

On March 25th I ordered the iPad and a SmartCover. After a while, I thougt the same than you (I think) and cancelled the SC and orderered again separately. Now the SC is already on the way to my home and should be there on Monday or Tuesday. The iPad is still "not yet shipped" -.-

I'll see your twice and raise you a thrice! God knows why, I've only got the one order in (yes, I've checked very very carefully) and while it DID have a smart cover on it the iPad shipped yesterday and the smart cover hadn't so much as blinked. Ah well.

Nice surprise since I just ordered one from Tesco.com as I was getting impatient and got lucky finding a White 32gb wifi in stock.

Now I have two coming Monday but which one to keep??!!!:p
Not told the misses about the mire expensive one!!

@whitenoise: We should be so lucky! I think ours are on the same pallet. I can't see German customs doing much over the next 24hrs - I think our iPads are going to enjoy a nice weekend in Cologne. Still, with a delivery date (for me) of Thursday, that gives time for stuff to happen early next week and still beat the estimated ETA. Perhaps a Wednesday delivery?
 
Our household has a second ipad on order with Apple but I have just noticed on the UPS site some strange shipping info

Basically, the customs information ("package data") is processed by UPS at the Köln/Bonn Airport while the actual package is still in transit. This happens to avoid a delay in Cologne while UPS waits for clearance.
