dont get me started on dixons or pc world or who ever there tied too. Bought my orginal imac g5 from pcworld Worst service known to mankind then when something went in the screen they didnt want to know had to take it to an apple repair shop in chesterfield was not amused at how the staff at pc world sheffield acted or in this case denied all knowledge..

Must say the offer from 3 caught me off guard but hey guess apple is opening up the flood gates for when the iphone 4g comes along

Three's prices look ok although a better deal would be to get their SIM Only Internet 1 month contract tariff at only £5 a month (Unlimited Internet subject to a 1GB fair usage policy).

I'm very disappointed that O2 isn't offering a true unlimited internet plan (without specified fair usage policies) like they're offering in Germany.

Shouldn't Apple make sure all their first world customers in the United States are able to get an iPad before rolling it out in third world countries?

No, why should we be left to the side lines again, it took ages to get lots of products over here from Apple, iPod mini, iPhone, etc.

Heh. Yes, I see what you did there. Very good.

Anyway - this has confused things somewhat. There's a PC World on the 6 minute journey I've got into work. But it doesn't open 'till 9am and I've got no idea if that store will be stocking the iPad. Or, I can stick to the original plan and dive up to Bluewater for 8am, risk the queue and try to get back for work at 9am.

Difficult... I suppose I could give the PCW down the road a ring tomorrow to see if they're getting some stock...

None of the countries on the list are third world countries. They're all 'developed' countries just like the US and are all classed as "First World" if you go by the conventions introduced during the Cold War era.

Lol the Whatever Happens DOES cover Macs! Just a couple of features aren't supported.

I have used used WEH twice on my Mac when I've broken it (water damage and second time when I dropped it!)

Yeah most of the useful features that we had to sell on a PC on WEH, I mean come on have you really found phoning TechGuys better than phoning AppleCare direct, and dealing with Equinux for repairs was a nightmare.
Anything to increase footfall in the stores, and I will say again for the 100th time so far, 60 days exclusive my backside, they dont. Simple as that, they might have it against Comet, Tescos and John Lewis, but there at least another 40 shops that will have it for launch.

Who are you calling third world countries???!!! Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK are NOT third world countries, they are actually first world countries! (Spain can be debatable to second world)
Learn this: The U.S.A is not the only first world country there is in the world
Educate yourself!
I think it is wrong for Apple to be rolling the iPad internationally whilst there is a huge demand in the U.S.A. but that doesn't mean that you call them however you like!

I wonder if it'll be a similar deal to buying the iPhone with regards to support entitlement?

I bought my iPhone 3GS from an O2 shop, but when the battery stopped charging soon after purchase I simply walked into an Apple Store and got it replaced.

If all the after-sales care (handling replacements, etc) for the iPad can be provided via an Apple Store no matter where the device was purchased, then I don't have any objection to buying from PC World. But until that's confirmed, I reckon I'll be heading to Bluewater on Friday morning and telling work I'll be in late :)

You're either trying to be funny, or are an *******. Either way, the US of A is NOT the center of the world (shock....horror!).

Good thinking on Apple's part -- a Friday launch set for Monday would have been confusing. (Sorry, I'm a professional editor, and I couldn't resist. )

If you're a professional editor then why did you not use a colon after 'part' instead of that strange broken dash thingy?

A dash means you are going off on a tangential thought.

love the detail we get here

hehe - as i live in Malaysia (2.5 world really) i dont know when we will ever see the iPad here - at least i am getting one from other sources. They are however selling on the grey market here at a terrible price - over $1100 USD for the 64GB wifi only version! Yikes.

Actually, I think they should hold off on U.S. launches until they have enough stock to do a simultaneous global launch. Of course, that's because I don't live in the States anymore. ;)

Well put, but I must ask: in what way is it wrong for Apple to start selling the ipad internationally simply because there is still demand for it in the US? What does that have to do with anything? Just because it's an american company doesn't mean they're morally obligated to saturate the american market before they start selling their product elsewhere. Get over yourself already.

Wealth is relative, especially in the US

Shouldn't Apple make sure all their first world customers in the United States are able to get an iPad before rolling it out in third world countries?

Uh, that was cruel and rather pathetic.

The US might be rich statistically, but with that sort of inequality, I am shocked that anybody sees the UK as a "third world country" compared to the US. Go to other Western European countries and you actually find a superior life there. I can assure you that similar GDP for Switzerland assures a higher quality of life for a much larger proportion of society than in the US. Even in the UK, I haven't seen the sort of poverty than I have in the US.

It's not just about New Orleans, the shockingly populous prison population, drug abuse, alcoholism, racial tension and lack of universal health care. It's not just about corporations having excessive influence and a wealthy upper- and upper-middle class owning a significant share of assets. I have been to the US a couple of times and I found a poor infrastructure, bad roads, masses of homeless people, rude shopkeepers, unprofessional service and a popular culture lost in itself.

I remember the first time I've been to Manhattan and I saw those road surfaces, the rats; but what I was mostly shocked about was the endless numbers of street vendors selling the same mineral water, the same hot dogs from the same carts. Then I realised that the US wasn't the home of the free market. The US is the home of monopolies. Just the idea of calling a health care reform 'socialism' must be preposterous for most of us, Europeans.

Still, I love your country. I'm not English, but I have been living in the UK for a while with close links to the Continent and I have to say that if I had a child, I wouldn't hesitate to move back to continental Europe; and I know that they would offer my family a much better life than the US could.

Besides, what's the point of wealth, when others around you suffer?

yeah 3mobile have zero restriction on what you can use their network for, you want to use that 10GB for watching iplayer/streaming vids and making hours of voip calls? go do it they dont care you've paid for 10GB and thats what you get use it on anything you want until it's used up, nice simple and transparrent.

infact if you have a mobile on 3 download the skype client and use the 100% free calls without any need to top up, man I feel sorry for the guys actually paying for their calls.
