it's a fun delightful more organized implementation of what was there before that helps hide the new notch especially in marketing materials. But it's not really anything new in functionality from what I can see.

I like how Apple implemented this. But I can't believe how overly geeked so many are about it.

It's amazing how people are cheering Apple making the notch bigger and moving it into the display area.

The only thing revolutionary about the dynamic island is Apple's talent in selling it. It proves the reality distortion field is still alive and well I suppose.
They have a level 99 mage working a deception spell in the middle of their ring. The ring was built to channel the energies of the surrounding area into one singular point.
Selling us on an island we all wish not be stuck on.

For everyone complaining: phones are a mature product and there’s not much more they can do with them, for now.

The lack of extra RAM on the Pro models is what will keep me from upgrading, however. 6GB is certainly not enough for my needs.

It’s almost as if they could have made the phone slightly longer. Then integrated this feature into the existing notch. We would have this island stuck to the top of the phone. With all of these new gimmicky features built in. Making a clear distinction between screen real-estate, and the screen.

But nope. We get this eye nagging distraction.
It will sell well. But it doesn’t give many people who have iPhone X and above a compelling reason to upgrade.

difficult to reach and a fingerprint magnet. let's celebrate dysfunctional design on twitter!!! 🎉

Even giving the iPhone a bit of a chin (like the iMac) instead of a notch, wouldn’t be so bad, if they used that chin to put in a top end speakers and a top end camera maybe. Just stop mutilating the display area.

Would definitely have preferred a smaller notch than a hole further from the edge.

Wonder if I would actually prefer 2 notches tucked into the corners instead of one right in the middle.

Just watch, Android companies are going to start adding the pill back into their designs, lol.

They really did do a great job. Stupid name (I blame the marketing team), great execution. Sounds like a Fox reality TV show.

So what are they gonna do when they don't need the pill anymore? Will there just be an interactive area up there in all apps, and it will just disappear when watching video? Or will it blend into the color of the app instead of being black?

My only gripe right now is that I wish it was about 25% smaller. Based on the leaks it feels a bit larger? It's still kinda annoying while watching video. But this is about the best way you could ever do a pill, so I'm happy about it.

"fingerprint magnet"...how are you using a smartphone? Aren't you touching the screen? Doesn't that leave fingerprints? Isn't the "Dynamic Island" part of the screen? What the hell is wrong with you? Think man, think! It's bloody legal for now!

You must have some unusual needs. However, your points on phone maturity are something I can agree with.

Real improvements will depend on technological improvements to energy storage, future expansion of satellite capabilities, and other tangible improvements.

You know what is not an improvement by any metric, but is a desperate reach for "improvement"?

Unreliable, crease-ridden folding phones. To semi-quote a popular movie: "They were so excited about what they could do, they didn't think about whether they SHOULD do it".

Best part is the name. There's 100 ways they could have come up with a more standard or technical name. But we're going to see this same pattern in other OSes soon and then they're going to have to reference Apple's name or come up with something else.

"Oh, this design is like Apple's Dynamic Island."

I think it’s interesting but I hope it can be disabled by the user.

I don’t really need the timer in my face that now takes up more space than the notch did.

Like most here, I’m usually an Apple cheerleader but I think the fanfare for the “dynamic island” is confusing. They seemingly bent over backwards to devise a software solution to a hardware problem. I can’t help but wonder whether they might have reached greater innovation in solving the actual problem of relocating or better masking the Face ID camera. 🤷‍♂️
Why don’t you offer them your magical solutions for doing so?

Lol there's always gotta be that one party pooper.

Unclench, it's original and very cool.
You are argumenting against person, rather than argument.

So i am pooper too, muhehehe.

There is still empty unused space between top of display and dynamic island customer is paying for.

I would personally like to know is the lidar still the same or better ?

Shop until you drop and honestly enjoy that, not going to spend a single coin on this.
