There are actual LAWS in countries around the world. A real company (i.e. MacRumors) has to abide by these LAWS. An actual company can't just offer a contest like an independent person can.

Canada requires a skill question, and the contest in both English and French.

Taxes are different in different countries. Especially when sending something from one country to another.

There are lots of rules.... Google it.

Which Fridays does this article refer to?

Runs from today to next Friday? Would be nice if you would put actual dates in the article. Will this article be removed from MacRumors after "next Friday"?

2/20 until 2/27. We've updated the post with specific dates, thanks for the feedback!

I bought one of these off Amazon a year ago, I use it at work and traveling. The construction is very solid.

People, read WildCowboy's comment.

Macrumors is doing a nice thing that they don't have to. Unfortunately, circumstances outside of their control limit their scope of giveaway. Don't blame them or complain, though I do understand everyone's disappointment.

Whether you're eligible or not, this is still a nice thing they're doing.

Maybe one day there will be more harmonious global rules, but right now they're doing the best they can.

no one is doing anyone a favor here its tit for tat they give a few people something for free and in return some gets eyes on there product and demographics info from people. so lets not elevate this to a gift from anyone

I'd imagine running any kind of such competition world-wide is a bit of a legal nightmare, so it's understandable. Still a pity though. This is why we need a European MacRumours.com!!

I'm going to enter. In the off chance that I win I'll personally mail this to you for being a reasonable human.

I realize that, but it still is an opportunity they don't have to give and people shouldn't complain about forces outside of Macrumors controls.

Mutual benefits are fine.

maybe you could send it to the international winners though personal channels.
Exactly. Tell you "fur-nurs" what, if you win, PM me. I'll give you my U.S. PO Box to give. When it arrives, I will forward it on to you. If I do this for more than one person, I'll need to charge shipping. I'll provide exact cost of shipping via receipt.

All you have to do is stop whining about it. Deal?

US only again sigh.. I'm sure there are plenty of workarounds like English speaking countries only etc etc.

Here we go with another bitter foreigner's complaining post

Why stop at kicking the foreigners off macrumors?
Kick the foreigners off the internet!

Hmmm... hadn't thought of buying anything like this before, but now I see it, I'm tempted..

I'm in the UK, so can't enter the comp, but I might buy one anyway..

Any reviews, or owners' experience?

They explained the rules upfront, so it's not funny that the widget does those things at all. If you choose to enter after being told you don't qualify, that's your prerogative. And MacRumors doesn't owe you anything - that's nothing to be upset about.

So it shouldn't let you enter. Also if competition law is that complex then maybe it would be better to do no competitions at all, least that way no one is pissed off.

One thing I learned in life, someone...somewhere....is always pissed off.

I wouldn't be mad if the site had another contest strictly for UK residents or for any other area of the world.

Then again I wouldn't enter it if I couldn't legally win it. But that's just me.

I'm not whining, I just extended a suggestion

postage would be submitted, it is only rational & fair, along with a cup o' Joe & a cookie

I did see the message regarding US only until after I entered, how many people read every word of an article, I scanned it and then only after I entered did I see the bit about US only which rattled by cage. I don't think that's an unreasonable reaction.

I'm having a hard time finding a link to view the giveaway ...

Side note: awesome. Interested to see what other goodies make it into the MRG :)

Google, the NSA and the Illuminati, in that order.

The Illuminati isn't real, man. Everyone knows its just a shadow front for the real danger: Freemasons.

Also, I just want to say that I'm really glad I'm not a member of the Macrumors staff. It's like they can't do anything without 500 overly entitled and opinionated people jumping out and calling them stupid for one reason or another. That has the hurt the self esteem a bit.
