Become a MacRumors Supporter for $50/year with no ads, ability to filter front page stories, and private forums.
You'll find out soon enough as the marketing SPAM starts arriving at your Inbox.

The only information being collected is your email address and the only reason we're collecting your email address is so that we can email the winners. Your email addresses are not being used for anything else or being shared with any third party.

I did see the message regarding US only until after I entered, how many people read every word of an article, I scanned it and then only after I entered did I see the bit about US only which rattled by cage. I don't think that's an unreasonable reaction.

True. Not unreasonable, and I didn't mean it as a shot at you or anyone else either.

...Except Google, the NSA and the Illuminati. This is why I wear my tinfoil hat. Can't be too careful.

So it shouldn't let you enter. Also if competition law is that complex then maybe it would be better to do no competitions at all, least that way no one is pissed off.

I'm still not seeing what there is to be pissed off about. It's a contest that's not open to you. How are you any worse off than the moment before this contest was announced? That's just sour grapes.

Any reviews, or owners' experience?
I've had one of these for about 8 months, and use it just about daily to re-sync my iPhone/iPad to my Mac Air. I wanted a shorty cable to leave attached to the Air (for the most part) and this works great for that purpose, and travel. Not a single problem with it so far.

Well done MacRumors yet more discrimination based on where you live. Last time I checked this was not MacRumors US, just MacRumors. It's not bloody hard to ship a small USB cable to Europe or anywhere else in fact.

It's funny how the widget will let you share, join mailing list spam your friends on Facebook to get a entry but won't actually give you the prize if you win unless you happen to live in the USA.

Not impressed. I can handle US centric content but not competitions, that's just not on.

What, you're upset because you aren't getting free stuff? No overbearing sense of entitlement here, is there?

A couple of other people have expressed disappointment, but you seem to be the only one really pissed. So they should make up the rules, just for you, you think?

I have to agree. I’ve seen it lots of times before, even though the intentions may be pure, it will leave a bitter taste with the people that can’t participate. It will be perceived as favouritism, even though this website has no particular target audience, aside from English speakers. If you can’t give (almost) all of your users a chance then don’t offer anything at all. Or at least don’t post it as a huge sponsored article on the main page (why not show the article to users with an US-based IP address?).

It's not free stuff it's a promotion to give 1) exposure to an advertiser 2) collect email addresses for email marketing 3) increase nunbers on social media.

I'm not upset though I might have been already annoyed at the time which did not help so may have overreacted.

spam already

Entered to win earlier today and am already receiving spam at my @me.com email address that has historically been spam free. Anyone else getting emails from ooVoo all of a sudden?

Well done Kero - an hour ago I'd never heard of you, but now I know to avoid ever buying your products. If simply posting something to a foreign address is too difficult for you, I sure as hell won't trust you to have any after sales support in my country... and I certainly won't be trusting MacRumours to give fair and unbiased reviews of Kero products after this either.

Telling most of the world they don't count does a company's reputation a lot of damage.

Our U.S.-only restriction has nothing to do with Kero. In fact, Kero Products was more than willing to ship internationally -- we had to restrict the contest to the United States for legal reasons, see this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/20733806/

To the non-U.S. readers complaining about not being legally allowed to participate in the free promotional giveaway contest of a U.S.-based website covering news about an American company:

But you already have a valid email address to contact us under our MacRumors forums member profile. The Rafflecopter entry should be for the non-members who may or not read past the front page.

Assuming no spam is on my way and the email address isn't being shared with your sponsors, then my entry ought to be automatic (pending my physical location) with the option to decline the prize if I happen to win.

We're using Rafflecopter because it's an easy and fair way for us to run giveaways. Rafflecopter counts entries via email (or Facebook) and there isn't an option to set it up to allow you to enter with just your forum username. Without a tool like Rafflecopter to count entries, choose winners fairly, and supply us with easily-accessible contact information, there would be no way for us to run a giveaway like this.

We did our homework on Rafflecopter. They have a solid privacy policy and are not sharing your email address with anyone (nor are we). You can see it here: https://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/privacy/

What an awesome thing to start happening, just when I turn 18! :D

Hopefully I'll get a special MacRumors birthday present, as this is something I'd use a lot.

Looking forward to see whatall MR giveaways encompass in the future (*praying for a new iPad/MBA/rMBP*).

US citizens would react exactly the same, as they did for years when Apple would not let them participate in the 12 days giveaway. It’s not that nobody is legally allowed to participate either, it’s just that MacRumors intentionally chooses to exclude everyone else to avoid considering foreign laws.

Can you detail the legal restrictions for the unwashed amongst us?

That there are legal restrictions in place elsewhere is not even the reason, these restrictions are there in the US too. It’s just that they limit this contest to US citizens only to avoid having to verify and abide by additional laws that may impose a slightly different set of restrictions.

Just entered.

What's with all these whiners lately? This generation is all about entitlement. I wouldn't even care if I frequently visited a site that is based on the country of a certain product then whine about it not being fair when they give away stuff.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out.:apple:

What is the difference

Aside from a cap and an inch shorter. What is the advantage over this
