Unfortunately, the U.S. only restriction is due to the varying laws covering giveaways around the world. Some countries ban them entirely, some require an element of skill, some require selection by chance, some have language requirements (looking at you, Quebec), etc.

Quebec is not a country....

In short, it's a legal nightmare to even attempt to comply with laws in all of these countries, and we simply don't have the resources to manage it. We really wish we could, because we know we have many loyal readers around the world, but it's just not feasible. You'll see similar policies on many other major media sites that do giveaways.

It gets really silly. I entered one contest that required a 'skill contest', because apparently many states in this country (America) require them now. The 'skill' was adding two numbers together.

Silly politicians = silly rules.

Let's see: 1 in 20,000 == 50 in a million.
1/20,000 is 0.005%

I suppose calling that the smallest fraction of a percent may have been the slightest of hyperboles...

Actually, it would be 50 in 20,000 - at 0.25% the odds are better than playing the lottery.

What's the deal and Apple with so short cables ? They do it to all of their eithernet-to-Mini adapters.

Product designed to be carried on a key ring for convenience. Maybe someone will include a retractable cable in the protective iPad / iPhone case.

I am not entirely sure why some do giveaways globally and some don't. Maybe others are willing to do some work to enable all the countries where it is possible, instead of just categorically not doing it anywhere but US. A friend of mine won a very expensive software product from a UK-based magazine and he lives in Finland.

I think you just named two of the advantages to the Nomad :p

Actually, I would consider the cap to be a DISADVANTAGE. The material posted suggests you use the loop on the cap to attach it "to a key ring or clip for portability."

If I attached this cable to anything by the cap, I would lose the body of the cable faster than it took most of you to post complaints about the contest being US only...

Here we go with another bitter foreigner's complaining post without actually understanding the legal restrictions in place.

I didn't know Macrumors was a US-only community and that i am considered a foreigner here.

This guy.

Talk about cognitive dissonance. Maybe you should take a breath, walk away, and get over it. You're being a tantrum throwing jerk. You misread and are corrected, then try to literally /change history/ to justify your position and attitude when it is clearly written out on the page prior.

Let it go.

I won't even try to enter. Last time I entered something here, I won a "FREE" MacRumors branded iPhone 6 case. It arrived via USPS "Postage Due", so it went back.

I owned two of the Nomad Lightning Cables. One stopped working after about 6 months. The other simply fell part a couple of months later. Great concept. Build quality seems good when you get it. They just don't last very long at all.

Oh damn. I just went through the entire effort of promoting this to get my 4 votes and then I discovered that it's US-only. Ugh. Guess I was too excited to read every line. :p

Oh, don't be like that, please. I've been a MacRumors member for many, many years. Yes, this American website has made profit from my Canadian activity. Yes, I know there are many rules governing giveaways. But with a bit more effort, at least a few more countries could've been supported. Why not separate giveaways in larger markets? Why US only? I have my opinion on that matter, but I will keep it to myself.
