Alternate headline:

iOS 9 Users Succumb to Multiple Daily Software Update Notices
I have not received these on any of my devices. Every time Applewould push out an OS9 update all devices would bug me, but not with the 10 upgrade. Had to manually check for upgrade in my settings.

I am going to start a petition to bring back the slide to unlock.

I normally take to new features very quickly and see the benefits as enhancements or improvements but the new lock screen annoys the crap out of me. Why do I want everyone to have acces to my widgets? Who thought this up? It would be nice to be able to slide to unlock when your hands are covered and it's supper annoying on non-touch ID devices. I could go on and on...

I really wish Android updates were like this. For example my Nexus 6P is on Nougat, but my S7 Edge is still stuck on Marshmallow.
You can't upgrade the software on your S7 yourself? Is this governed by your service provider or something? I don't understand.

There we go again... what you use your phone for?

Widgets are better, Maps is better, unlock screen is better, keyboard is better, Safari is better, control center is better, there are so much much things that are better. On top of that, security updates.

The only reason not to update are those people that jailbreak so they can install pirated apps.

That is not true, I did not update and I am not going to, their is nothing wrong with IOS 9, Their are some nice features in IOS 10 but not enough to make me upgrade. I like the new iPhones but I am holding out until iPhone 8 maybe, I will have to be a Big Difference between the phone"s before I upgrade and it will depend on the IOS also. Their is nothing wrong with the 6 or the 6s or IOS 9.

So many of those things are entirely subjective. To me, widgets are worse, Apple maps are better but still so far behind Google maps as to be irrelevant, lock screen is WAY worse, keyboard is worse, Safari is better, control center is worse.

Net negative IMO. And I do have iOS 10 on my iPad, so yes I've experienced it.

iPhone 6:
Press home to unlock
Phone favorites no longer fit on one screen
AT&T signal seems lower (could be coincidence)
o/w it's OK I guess

I completely agree!

Except I'm really disliking Photos within iOS10 more than ever!

I like control over which folders I create for pictures to go into, like that of a file browser in a cojmputer centric OS but I know that's long gone. Sure I can append photos into folders I create in iOS 10, yet the original remains in all photos, should I delete the original then the appended folder is also gone, like an alias file link would.

Funny I just sold my 2 week old iPhone 6S 64GB at a tiny loss to an Android user (HTC M7) who originally had the iPhone 5. reason he left to Android, thought the grass was greener, reason to come back: simplicity, efficiency, much better product and OS, best in the business warranty, and .... battery life!

He said to me, "Man are you crazy? What are you going to use now?"
answered "Blackberry Z10"
his reaction 'eeeeek, like I had the plague'
my reaction, almost the same ... stating "it's only for 2 weeks I'll have another but at 128GB storage and my son will be upgrading to iPhone 7 32GB or maybe I'll get the IP7 128/256GB Matte Black, and he gets teh IP6 64/128GB"
his reply "well why don't you keep this iP6 you're selling me, adopt me for a day and upgrade me to 128GB"
me 'not funny'

Somehow you haven't stumbled on the TON of other new features and welcome improvements outlined in iOS 10 reviews I've been reading. All those little things add up to far more for me than any one "headline" feature typically does.
I have used iOS 10 for months and all the little tweaks don't move the needle. I know all the ins and outs. They don't do anything game changing or add value to an average users daily use. As I said before the only real value additions are the enhancements to photos and messages.

There we go again... what you use your phone for?

Widgets are just as useful as they were in notification center.. Safari got minor improvements not worthy of an upgrade. Maps still stinks in comparison to Google Maps. Unlock screen really isn't much better what is so much better that can't be done in previous version? Keyboard and control center don't offer any new value worthy of an upgrade. Apple still release security updates for iOS 9 so that is moot as well. I am saying the real value that moves the needle getting average joes to upgrade is lacking. Fresh coats of paint don't make people want to adopt fast these days.

Preposterous thing to say that people who don't wish to upgrade must be pirates. Many look for features that actually are worth upgrading for. I do think it is worth is for Photos and Messages but I completely get why many don't want to for two big improvements. Lots prefer current OS speed/battery life.

Android updates usually work like this:
  • Google releases new Android version
    • Nexus (Pixel) devices receive it immediately
    • Phone manufacturers receive it
      • Phone manufacturers modify it to include their own (device-specific) additions
        • Carrier-free devices receive it immediately
        • Carriers receive it
          • Carriers modify it to include their own nonsense
            • Average Joe receives update
So usually you got to wait for your phone manufacturer and carrier, to update to the newest version. If your "lucky", only for your manufacturer. But even that can take months and Samsung usually is among the slower ones...

I also think that a lot of people changed because of an updated iMessage app - at least I did ;).

I'm avoiding the update for exactly that reason. I won't bother updating until the novelty has worn off and people just use it as a regular messaging app again. So maybe 6-8 months or so.

As a person who constantly switches between Portuguese and English, the new iOS 10 keyboard is a godsend! The very fact that I can switch languages between sentences without switching keyboards is worth the upgrade alone. Somehow, most of the people I know don't know this feature exists. Otherwise everyone would be running iOS 10 instead of 9

I'm enjoying the update. The usability of the Control Panels, and the general UI changes are pretty great. iOS 9 was plagued with weird proportions. Everything seems nicely set now.

Regarding the lock screen widgets:

Settings > TouchID & Passcode > Scroll to bottom where it says "Allow access when locked" > Disable Today View

Been running it for a few months now. Most the people I know haven't updated as they don't see any great new features that push them to upgrade. Aside from the messages app and photos app enhancements nothing of real value was gained in this update.

seriously? you must not explore iOS very much. The new Control Center and lock screen functions alone are worth the upgrade. Apple Music; not perfect, but better. Additional 3D Touch functions. Vastly improved WATCH app. Maybe these aren't real value to you, but they sure are to me, considering the upgrade costs NOTHING.

Ummm its interesting that only <5% of devices are iOS 8 or lower.
BTW how did this website manage to record 201,436,247,006 times. How many iOS devices is that and who is this mixpanel and what are they using to get the data?
Yeah, it would be good to know where this data is coming from--as in how it's being gathered.

To be fair, often it's not about not using various features or not knowing about them, it's more about people using them the way that work for them, and perhaps not liking or needing anything changed in regards to them. So certainly various things might not be of much value to different people (and might even be worse off for them if they are changed), while for others they can be of more value and better, depending on their use.

I do use and explore frequently those functions aren't worth the upgrade for most people. Some will just grow tired and finally upgrade if they keep getting the notification from apple. I already am upgraded so you may want to read my post again. People want real value 3D touch is still gimmicky as it was when first introduced. The minor tweaks still don't add any new great features. Control Center and Lock Screen don't do anything new that iOS 9 doesn't. Majority of people don't own apple watches and it shouldn't be stock on phones to begin with. The only real new features of value for the masses is messages and photos bottom line. Also the various fresh coats of paint =/= upgrade worthy.

I write Portuguese and English all the time, now I don't need to switch languages, LOADS of differences, if you only speak 1 language, you don't know how frustrating it is to start writing in (e.g. English) and see autocorrect flunking everything because your keyboard is set on Portuguese.

Widgets? Quite obvious? Now on the lock-screen, now on the home screen, now on 3D touch menu, compact and extended views, etc.

Safari? Split screen on iPad
