Willing to bet that 90% of people who complain about this will be straight white guys, who don't see this as an issue because they've always been represented.

When are we going to address the exclusivity of the animals? Where's the female version of the lion/chicken? And you know that's a male unicorn. Ugh. Sexism. And let's not forget they're total vegetablists.

Really though, seems like a fine thing to add. Just wish this didn't result in a lot more emoji to wade through.

Was there a gender equality for animals or bacon or tacos emojis? If I send bacon or taco emoji to a friend and I believe that the pig or cow was a girl, then there should be a male and female symbol indicator on it. My dog is a girl but I think and s/he thinks s/he's a boy then there's should an indication of a gender along with the emoji. To add that to our current situation to be politically correct. If I'm in a group message and my other friend is muslim then he shouldn't be receiving a pork bacon emoji. Same thing with social media a pork bacon emoji should not be showing on your phone if you're a muslim. If you're a vegetarian you should not be receiving those taco, bacon or any kind of meat related food emojis. That should be a feature in every iPhone to identify yourself and it would auto-block the things that are offensive to you.

Check your emoji keyboard. The gun emoji already exists. It's a pistol (at least the one I saw -- there may be more than one).

Also, any of the other things you mentioned in your post (car, knife, etc.) could also be used by someone with malicious intent to kill others. Any tool can be misused to inflict damage. Guns have plenty of other uses so classifying them as "killing machines" is short-sighted on your part.

This is an off-topic argument. But a gun's sole use and purpose is to cause death. Knives, and cars for that matter, are objects which can be used to cause death but that is not their intended use. The gun was invented to cause death. It is used to cause death. Therefore, people are right to suggest it is not appropriate to have a gun Emoji.

So this is Tim's idea of the exciting pipeline of the future?
Emoji updates every couple of months but nothing happening with iMac or MacPro (will we see the 1000 days without an update?)

I know the company isn't run according to my wants or needs but it still makes me sad to see such an innovative company go to seed like this.

Indeed.

Emoji should never have progressed beyond the yellow man, or the ones that MacRumors offers. That's all you need.
No, we NEED the poop emoji! :D That emoji should be offered in this forum. But I can just see it being overused when disgruntled members see leaks for any new "pro" level desktops and laptops Apple does end up releasing.

I like emojis and I don't mind new inclusive emojis but now there are so many emojis it is more bother to find them than it's worth. I just use the yellow cat emojis most of the time to represent people in my texts. I suppose that's discriminating against dogs, though.

So, this is what you make out of one tiny but noticeable feature for an incremental beta update? The sky has fallen.

You're in luck, they made a feature for that ;)

Hmm. Okay. But all I'm saying is the round faces seem to cover pretty much all bases when it comes to emotional responses. I have never, ever actually found a need to use the specific relationship/family Emojis which require you to choose a gender and a sexuality nor can I see their actual use in every day conversation. I'd be surprised to learn of anyone regularly using those specific Emojis.

It seems to me that it would be easier to stick with none-human faces. There will always be somebody who feels they are not represented when you try to cover all bases with humanoid Emojis.

But I'll take you as an example of someone who just loves arguing when it comes to topic such as these. There's always somebody waiting to be offended. More reason for Apple to stick with basic faces that do not represent actual people.

So you have one use case, someone else might have another, and neither side is compelled to use one or the other. Therefore, what EXACTLY is your objection here? If you want to use the yellow emoji, use it. If you want to use the black emoji, use it. And if someone else chooses to use the Mexican emoji, who cares? How, in ANY universe, does this impact your life? You're the one going out of YOUR way to complain about something which is WHOLLY optional and something in which you claim you have NO interest. Nice attempt at a personal attack though. You failed, but thanks for trying.

Yay! Yeah I haven't seen iOS 10 yet.

More stupidity. God, save this world.
Now please make cat, mice, rabbit, pig and others available in either gender. I'm sure it's possible. You can do it. I believe in you, whoever was in charge of that idiotic move.
And a skin tone please.

I wish they would fix it when someone sends me an emoji that my iOS doesn't have it shows a square box and keeps Siri from reading the text when I use voiceover. Please fix it apple.

That's an interesting take on it, in the sense that it seems that getting caught up about something as non-consequential as this does bring to mind something like "More stupidity. God, save this world."

I'm not trying to antagonize, and should disclose that I am pro gun-control laws, however I've learned to stay away from generalizations like this!

Take dilemma for example: Let's ban cars because cars can be used for killing.

Outrageous statement right? Neither of the following statements are true:

1) All cars are used for killing.
- False, because cars are used for transportation.
2) No cars are used for killing.
- False, because some cars have been used as tools to facilitate killing.

Now for the gun emoji: Let's ban gun emojis because guns are used for killing.

Neither of these statements is true:

1) All guns are used to kill
- False, people use guns for other means such as collectors items, sports, etc. Hunting, while it does imply killing, is different (in my opinion) especially in areas where lack of hunting would cause population control issues for certain animals and impact the ecosystem.
2) Guns are not used to kill
- False, guns are often used to inflict harm.

While this is a long winded post, I hope you see my point.

It's not as outrageous as one may think to use the gun emoji while texting a friend asking if they want to hunting.
