Since when has emoji ever been gender neutral? Emojis like the policeman or the dancing woman have always had a gender. Gender neutral emojis like the yellow rounded face emojis are STILL gender neutral. Geez get your facts straight before complaning about PC.
Agreed. This discussing is an awfully similar to the pointless discussion on race emojis. Nothing wrong with have more options.

It's not being shoved down your throat. There are now female versions of various emojis if people want to use them. If you prefer to never use female emojis, or you don't use emojis at all, then you don't need to use them.

People's aggressive reaction to inclusivity is so strange. Just get over it. You are not the default. Not everyone is like you. Have a nice day.
Well said. Just strange how people complain about anything the even looks like diversity.

It's "appropriate" when the people using them decide to use them. No one needs your permission, Your Majesty.

Hmm. Okay. But all I'm saying is the round faces seem to cover pretty much all bases when it comes to emotional responses. I have never, ever actually found a need to use the specific relationship/family Emojis which require you to choose a gender and a sexuality nor can I see their actual use in every day conversation. I'd be surprised to learn of anyone regularly using those specific Emojis.

It seems to me that it would be easier to stick with none-human faces. There will always be somebody who feels they are not represented when you try to cover all bases with humanoid Emojis.

But I'll take you as an example of someone who just loves arguing when it comes to topic such as these. There's always somebody waiting to be offended. More reason for Apple to stick with basic faces that do not represent actual people.

100 new emojis?! Why don't they think of 100 more features to add. How about a number # keypad keyboard style when entering fields that require number data only. Or how about I dial a persons name through the number keypad on the phone app and it searches my contacts by name and number and name spelled with numbers. Android got that right a loong time ago. Cmon Apple. I love the new colors but I want more than just color options. Give me captivating features again!

I don't see what the big deal is. Did people get this bent out of shape when iOS implemented different skin tones on some emoji? Should we all be bright yellow?
Unfortunately, they did this bent out of shape.

Waiting for a bunch of green-skinned emojis as to not offend those who identify as Orions.
We should at least wait until the aliens start using phones.
Then definitely they should be included.

The 'yellow faces' represent no human, no nationality, no sexuality, no creed, colour or orientation. They are very simply Emojis that can be applied to anybody on the face of this planet. Attempting to come up with specific Emojis to cover every single aspect of somebody's identity is a slippery slope and not a can of worms that needed opening. We don't need these Emojis. My argument is that we should have stuck with the basic faces and inanimate objects. This argument is too vast and I don't know why Apple even bothered, you can never represent everyone cause somebody is always there ready to inform you of their brand new orientation that you've not covered.

This is so true. There are so many different orientations these days, it is not worth it.

Great, two of everything.

Better pick the right one or be called sexist.

Can we not just go back to gender neutral emojis where it was all simple?

We can't do that. They want us to have some faux rage about a problem that affects a minuscule amount of the population.

Looks like you are not the target audience for those. My much younger coworkers love emojis. They text all day long. They would never ever think about using the phone for an actual phone call. So I can see this being a very welcome upgrade for a lot of young people.
I hate phone calls. I always text, on a bunch of different apps with that.
But I don't see how it relates to having neutral emojis. They're meant to display emotions or concept, and I'd rather have everything neutral than having to represent every single population so they don't feel left out (which is their right, from the moment one population was included). And by "I" I mean as a developer, and as an user.

I know I'm going to be hated on this and the comparisons (if I make any are going to be taken out of context).

I think we live in a sad world where a new generation is just reconstructing words to create an emphasis, or new catch phrases just because loosing the real meaning of words.

The front page states new release of emoji emphasizing "gender equality".
I forget what year it was that Woman were allowed to vote - and again here is the comparison potentially taking out of context - but I believe that year was the LAST year genders stop being inequal in the western world (at least in the minds of pompus men). To me women have held the gauntlet however for me using the term in this context, again on the front page "gender equality" sounds wrong.

The position and stance of what is being done - I completely applaud it, but just the term "gender equality" seems wrongfully used here. I just personally don't think it applies.

Hate crimes now become acts of terrorism (emphasis of all kinds of recent events, is another tought. Wrong is Wrong period, just the switching of the meanings of words and how some in power/position or position of clout with influence choose not to universally mention it or only to where it suits their personal vision).

Yeah women should be making pies for their men, right?

Really, I find it quite sad that we have gotten to the point where some people's pressing problems seem to involve the fact that they don't yet have an emoji that helps them express themselves.

If someone's identity is "strengthened" or their sense of self-worth is somehow validated because of a cartoon symbol on their phone that they feel represents them, I don't really know what to say about that except that I hope they find something more tangible to make them feel special.

The swords, knifes and cars are all killing machines and still notably there. Guns are just "scary" even though their death count is FAR outweighed by knives, pools and cars. Please...
Guns are designed as killing machines. That's what they are. Cars are designed for transportation. Knives are designed for cutting. Etc. I think it's understandable that Apple didn't want people sending gun emojis to each other.

Actually, the only people getting upset in this forum are the people who are against it. Everybody else probably just sees it as common sense progress.

Guns aren't "killing machines". They are tools for multiple uses like hunting, protection and competitions. And no, there's multiple sword emojis that are designed to kill (and have very recently - btw - Remember the Nazareth restaurant attacks?).

Check your emoji keyboard. The gun emoji already exists. It's a pistol (at least the one I saw -- there may be more than one).

Also, any of the other things you mentioned in your post (car, knife, etc.) could also be used by someone with malicious intent to kill others. Any tool can be misused to inflict damage. Guns have plenty of other uses so classifying them as "killing machines" is short-sighted on your part.

Completely wrong but never mind, you are good at that.

Yeoman Warder and a Member of the Queens Guard are completely different positions.

Seriously, all this fuss over pointless images. Anyone who takes offence at not having a specific emoji for what they are is a pathetic waste of space. With all the issues in the world, whether a symbol is black/white or pink with green spots, doesn't ******* matter. instead of spending all your sad little lives texting, why not talk to people!
