This is properly the most realistic video for a concept that I've seen that I would think that Apple would have the best chance of implementing at the same time. But even with this I have a few problems with it:

  • The Dark Mode thing isn't going to work unless developers jump in and actually implement it with their own apps (and I'm not talking about them making their own implementation; I'm talking about using a Dark Mode API class made by Apple (whether with their own objects or by making their own while conforming to it). If it becomes too complex for the developer to do it, or if it's ONLY available for the springboard and Apple's own apps, then they're not going to do it and then this feature would become a novelty, making less people using it and therefore being a big waste.
  • I... don't think I like seeing the drag icon at the bottom of the element. What if you're trying to drag an element that's on the very bottom or top of the screen? It wouldn't necessarily make sense. It should probably be where the other action buttons are at all times. And since this is the iPad that we're talking about, there's not really much of an excuse to do that since the screen is large enough for it.

... that's it. Everything else looks great and if Apple were to implement one of those things, then that would be even better!

Apple should totally hire these guys. They are good!
It's easy to be good when you're not doing the real engineering. I'm sure if I learned photoshop I could get really good at mock ups too.

That would be a massive upgrade. I would welcome that.

I recently set up an iOS 6 iPod for my wife's car and it was glorious. So much easier to use than iOS7+. I miss the old days where the UX was simple and always visible. This garbage of hidden UI behind obscure gestures and icons that make no sense is so frustrating. I have to do everything for wife on her phone because she can't understand share sheets or tapping blindly to bring up UI elements (understandably so).

I fail to see what's difficult about using share sheets. If my 75 year old mother can figure it out anyone can. Btw, there's nothing visible about long press and that existed in iOS well before iOS 7. When real estate is at a premium it's impossible to have visual clues for everything.

This is probably the best iOS mockup video I've ever seen. These guys get iOS—dare I say even more than Apple currently does? Everything seemed like it fit in to the way iOS operates. Love the little handle to drag content across. That fixes that problem so well! Also love the favorites area for the multitasker, which is an idea I had a long time ago (among others I'm sure). This is practically iOS perfection. Please let this come true! I need this update in my life, especially dark mode. Oh and another idea I had is in here—putting the Night Shift toggle next to the brightness. I would like that so much more. So many little things that make it better.

Quite possibly the first non-idiotic concept I have ever seen! Most of them go so far away from logic / reason that they're not even fun to watch. This guy has actually come up with some really great UI elements that I would genuinely like to see implemented!

Dark mode please. I know you can "invert colors" but something more deliberate would be great. I use invert colors all the time.

What I'm missing currently:
  • Adjust and refresh the sorting of photo albums
  • Add face detection to photos app
  • Add free tags to photos app
  • Allow JPEG2000 or some other nice 16bit lossy picture format.
  • Allow to do a multi select like in the normal photos app when importing from SD Card
  • iOS system wide pdf printer
  • Make app-per-vpn user configurable. Force certain apps to only use vpn.
  • Make birthday reminders to remind 1 week before and on the day of the birthday. (I know. Small thing but anyoning)

I follow everything apple for many years and this is probably the best concept video I have ever seen. Well done and fingers crossed that someone important in apple will watch this and love those features too. Cheers

Federico Vittici of MacStories has teamed up with Sam Beckett to create an iOS 10 concept video covering "wishlist" features Vittici hopes to see in the next version of iOS. Most concept videos we see are fanciful and filled with features unlikely to make it into iOS, but Vittici's vision of the future of iOS is logical and well thought out.

Major features covered in the video include a customizable Control Center with icons that can be rearranged and third-party app integration, a Siri API for third-party apps, and a system-wide dark mode.

Smaller tweaks include searchable emoji and rich previews in Messages, a document picker for iCloud Drive, and features to make Split View multitasking more useful on the iPad.

iOS 10 isn't expected to be released until the fall of 2016 alongside new iPhones, but we'll get our first look at it in just two months when Apple debuts the operating system update at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. Little detail has leaked out so far, but we may learn more as we grow closer to its official announcement.

Our forum members are also discussing features they would like to see in iOS 10, with a long wishlist thread highlighting desired additions like a revamped UI for iPads, user profiles, lock screen widgets, and more. Join in on the discussion here.

Those are cool too! ;)

Siri API please. When I used Android as my daily driver for a while, I liked being able to control both music and podcasts with my voice while driving. As Siri is currently restricted to Apple Music and Apple Podcasts, it's of no use to me as I prefer Google Play Music and Overcast.

I'm going through this thread upvoting every post mentioning how great dark mode looks!

That was pretty nice. Nothing over the top. Very clean and some darn good ideas. That dark mode is beast.

Dark would need an AMOLED screen for best use....

Real coding is a lot more difficult than pretend coding. Don't get me wrong...some of these features are great. But, within confines of the os, we don't know how do-able they are.

and they would need to do a lot to iCloud....

I do not see them adding the ability to customize Control Center. I do like the force touch features that could be included in Control Center. Maybe instead of customizing the bottom row you can swipe to show additional apps. That way they can keep their standards while also having some customization.

I always felt that emojis need a search/overhaul. I've already submitted feature requests in that area.

I can definitely see the emoji search being implemented, maybe not in iOS 10 but definitely in the future. this functionality actually already exists in iOS and I use it pretty frequently, it's just not offered for people with solely English/Latin keyboards. With keyboards that use the latin alphabet to input non-latin characters (pinyin for Chinese, romaji for Japanese, etc) the suggested words/characters that appear above the keyboard are for more numerous than the three offered with QuickType. with said keyboards you get long lists of possible characters/words, including mathematical symbols and emoji. very useful, especially the for symbols, and I hope to see similar functionality implemented for the English keyboard soon!

Invert colors is a pretty good stand in for "dark mode" - at least in apps like messages/mail/phone/etc that don't make heavy use of photographic artwork. Select it as the "accessibility shortcut" at the bottom of settings->accessibility, and you can triple click to toggle it on and off.

I'm optimistic about iOS 10 this year. Apple isn't ahead of the design race for smartphones anymore. And with this years iPhone rumored to be similar, if not identical, to the 6S they should be completely focused on software improvements as that is usually why a lot of people join or stay team iPhone. Samsung made great looking phones this year but I know there are many people (like myself) that can't make the change cause of Touchwiz and Android. 2016 should be all about iOS 10, then 2017 would the complete redesign of the iPhone. Just in time for the 10 year anniversary.

I'm all for the concepts in the video, love the dark mode look :)
One thing that I ask for the most is a cleaner desktop. I want the option to remove the app icons from the desktop so I can see the background and a bigger clock. Perhaps widgets on the desktop would be great. If you then want to "unhide the app icons, you can do so with a gesture or double tap on the screen.

iOS X for the world

I like most, if not all, of those ideas. I really hope they improve multitasking like in the concept video. They have been shipping very capable machines since the iPad Air 2 that should handle such features with no problem. Those types of enhancements would help me buy an iPad Pro.

I doubt Siri API, any kind of file system or a dark mode.
