I think it's interesting that this will be one of the rare occasions that a major iOS version will ship with a new iPhone design (that combination is one for success). The only other two were the first iPhone and the iPhone 4, and we all know those were the most "magical" iPhones.

Perhaps even more important is that this will be the 10th iOS version. Apple must have kept a "killer" feature for this one.

Doesn't that happen with every numbered iPhone version essentially?

It didn't with the iPhone 5, since iOS 6 was essentially a polished iOS 5, nor did it happen with the iPhone 6, since iOS 7 was the major redesign.

iOS 4 wasn't drastically different really. In that type of sense there was really one drastic redesign which was iOS 7.

That's fair, but the ability to add wallpapers made the iPhone look so much different than just having a black background (plus the icons looked a bit more polished).

But you're right, I'm not expecting an iOS 7-style redesign for iOS 10, but definitely a modest change though.

Well iOS 8 brought Apple Pay along with both the bigger 6 and 6 plus. That's pretty significant.

I would really like some major features in iOS 10. A major design change should be in the works within the next couple years. I do hope that iOS 10 brings some advancements in the usability department and allows some more customization for the lock and home screens.

We have lived and watched through extraordinary times in the last 10 years or so, Apple has made great moves to solve problems we had, for example

IPod - everyone who had a music collection knew for years that they wanted a portable store for all their music. Apple realised this dream.
IPhone - everyone who had a phone with WAP knew they wanted it to be a better experience. Apple realised this dream.
So for the last decade Apple has been knocking our socks off, their stock has gone through the roof. We love the thrill of the new, but we have very few problems left to solve, our socks stay sat around our ankles!

So the question is, what problems do we have that can possibly be solved by technology? Time to go Star Trek I say, time to think of the fantastical.

Apple WatchPhone - stop this tethering nonsense. I want a communication device that sits on my wrist without a slab in my pocket. I want it to receive calls, I want a permanent data connection, voice activation, invisible ear buds to hear my watchPhones audio. I want dictation of my texts, emails. I want an iPhone that is no bigger than 2" square, 0.5" thick that straps to my wrist. 2 cubic inches of power as opposed to the 3.5 cubic inches of an iPhone 5.

That my friends is the future of Apple, the iPhone 7, it sits on your wrist. Until then, my problems are all solved.

We all get all hyped up for big changes and in the end we are lucky if it is a small step forward. I can not see the 7 or the iOS being much different this next go around and it will not put Apple out of business.

Any downturn in Apple and it's sales is due first to the economy and you may have not seen anything yet!
