I was excited to delete Apple Maps, but disappointed you couldn't set it to open Google Maps by default. When clicking on an address (which would have previously opened Apple Maps), it says "Restore Maps?" ugh.

What apps are you talking about?

Mail: I use CloudMagic
Music: Spotify Family Plan
Maps: Google Maps
Watch: I have a Black Withings Steel/Brown Mondaine Helvetica Light im happy with, never getting an Apple watch
Game Center: do not play games on my phone
Notes: I use OneNote
Tips: o_O
Stock: Not my job - get a report at end of year
News: I have a NYTimes account (see Stocks also)
Health: I use Withings
Books: Kindle/Audible

I have them all in a folder - can not remember the last time I used them.

I don't get the Optimize Storage option... You choose a minimum amount of storage to be used? What does that even mean?

Using the 8gb option as an example: It means that, assuming you have at least 8gb of music on your phone, it will store 8gb locally and then move some or all of the rest onto the cloud.

So you will always have at least 8gb of music on your phone, plus all the rest available on iCloud.

Gun replaced with water gun? Are they honestly a parody? That is beyond hilarious. Ok, guess I should make a point to download an AR-15 emoji today since guns are too scary for Apple but they left in: a punching fist, a bow and arrow, a hammer, a pick, a BOMB, a knife oriented for stabbing, a dagger, crossed swords, cigarettes, and a coffin. This sort of thing is just embarrassing.

How do we know Apple put the new genders in for equality (which would also be hilarious beyond parody) but instead for a very sensible reason - options. They also now have both genders for the sports as well. To me that is just a great option and makes sense - if a woman is sending an emoji to her friend about surfing of course she wants to use a woman surfing. There is no need to put a political spin on a non-political expansion of options, so I hope that is just the article author being lame and not more Apple being lame. Because if it was political they did not go far enough - only a MALE Santa Claws, only a female princess, a woman ball room dancing. Still a lot of room for more equality.

So far I really like iOS 10. First time I ever risked the .0 release instead of waiting for the .1 and its been great. I don't like the look of the swipe left screen - whatever it is - widgets. Now looks very cluttered with all the boxes and no longer clear. iOS 9 knew I was going to work in the morning and predicted how long it would take on one of the screens but that is gone it seems. Those lines of boxes are just ugly. Still like it overall. Messages is going to be a hit with the teens.

And you can get rid of most if not all of those now.

When will they finally add profiles to the iPad? I'd like to be able to switch to my own profile and be logged into all the facebook connected games and have all my apps show up. Currently the only way is disconnect the app from facebook, open facebook and log out, log back in to my account, then open the game and reconnect to facebook under my own account. Wife wants to play some games? Repeat above process for her. Unless there's some feature I don't know about that does this?

Bought a Fire on Prime day because it was $33 - why not to try it out. Profiles are awesome. Apple should get on that ASAP.

Just deleted Apple Maps (I have Google Maps installed) and asked Siri "How do I get home?"

Siri said "Getting directions to home..." then up popped a dialogue box: "Restore 'Maps'? You followed a link that requires the app 'Maps' which is no longer on your iPhone. You can restore it from the App Store." Then a link to Show it in the App Store or cancel.

Thanks for performing that experiment; you got the result I expected (but not the one I hoped for!).

Hopefully the ability for us to pick the default app for certain task will be in a forthcoming update.

Upon further review the Health app is annoying now. 4 big boxes taking up tons of space that I cannot get rid of instead of a page full of graphs - don't like it. It also continues to treat BMI as a measured function instead of a derived one - very bad design. My height is stable - if I enter my weight BMI is known. I have finally started using this app alot so this is disappointing.

No You can "hide" them - I want to be able to delete any bloatware that comes with the phone. By this definition no Android phone comes with Bloatware because I can hide any app from the app window also. That is nonsense.

Go to options top left corner, click on it. Select what days you want by clicking on the letter for the day of the week.

Tap on options top left corner. Click on Each letter of the day of the week.

That only allows me to apply the one bedtime routine to more or less days. I don't see an option to create a second bedtime.

odd, I have an iPhone 6 too and find it to be very fluid and fast. I also feel the keyboard clicks are much more responsive than they were prior.
Would you recommend waiting for 10.02 before updating to Ios 10?

What would you be trying to accomplish with that? The apps all together don't take much space, so you wouldn't be gaining anything meaningful from that. They aren't running or using resources in that sense, so nothing really gained there either. And they wouldn't be shown anywhere if you remove them. So, again, what is it that you are missing from that?

I believe Google apps will offer other Google apps instead of Apple ones. There was a point when YouTube kept asking me if I wanted to download chrome or open in Safari.

I run my contact list in Last Name, First Name sort order. So I'll see Smith, John when in contacts. In the Messages app however this causes the initials at the top to be SJ. Is there a way for the initials to be JS in the Message app without changing the sort order in Contacts? Initials are usually read as first (middle) last in my part of the world.

Don't think there's a way to adjust the initials in the thumbnail that iOS uses (but it does seem like thy are in the order you mentioned--first (middle) last).

And again, manufacturer bloatware on our mobiles Is fine as long as we can "Hide" them and not use up 150megs of memory now?. It as meaningful, as me not being able to uninstall the Amazon Store on my Xperia phone, and that is only 25megs. (You can only "disable" on Android 6.0 that does the same thing as now iOS10)

And if all this is not doing anything and not "meaningful" It is more logical to simply delete it over hiding it in the file system. Im my entire professional life I have never known anyone to defend pre-install software with limited user permissions simply because you can hide it and disable background process. It is nonsense.

So basically it's mostly one of those principle things than anything else. Got it.

By the way, might want to keep an eye on CloudMagic: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/cloudmagic-is-now-newton-for-50-a-year.1995686/

Love the fact we now have the option to delete apps we are never going to use.

Well done Apple, finally!!

Yep - thanks for the heads up, But I updated it this morning before seeing the new icon. It let me log in again - and account was there and works just like before but on a "15 day trial" (after I can keep the "basic" for free). No idea what that is. I guess I'm looking for a new start-up for an email client. I need something cross platform - and they even had a Mac client. They been solid for 3 years - It is a beautiful piece of code, not blaming them for wanting to make money off the effort.

Hope the name is not a sign or things to come o_O

I'm guessing that you're using a Bluetooth keyboard. Same issue here, and I've logged it as a bug.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Wallet and Health apps can't be hidden the same way as most of the others...
I'm using the standard apple keyboard on my phone. I don't have anything else installed.

I don't have time to change bedtime each night.

Now that's interesting! In iOS 10 they've moved the spellcheck suggestions to the autocomplete bar, but that bar isn't present when using Bluetooth. It should be there with the on-screen keyboard though...

Serious question: if you hide a stock app (e.g., Maps) and have an alternative installed (like Google Maps), will the alternative one run in situations where the stock one would (like selecting an address in Contacts)?
I believe it'll actually ask you to install back the default Maps app. iOS won't allow any other third party app to become the default one, in this case Google Maps.

I'm on a iPhone 6 and this OS is very sluggish.
Runs perfectly fine on my iPhone 6. Maybe you have too much stuff on your phone and the storage is almost full? Just a thought.
[doublepost=1473891070][/doublepost]
I don't have the update message on my devices...I guess I am not allowed to have it...
Make sure you have Reduce Motion turned OFF. Settings, General, Accessibility, Reduce Motion
[doublepost=1473891302][/doublepost]
please bring back old keyboard sound at least as an option. the new ones are crap !
I don't mind the new keyboard sounds, but I think the new Lock sounds are horrible. It doesn't fit in with iOS at all.
