However, Apple could solve this by using 3D touch, allowing both camps to have exactly what they want. That they haven't done this boggles the mind.

Agreed. There were many reasonably elegant alternatives proposed here when this change first appeared that would satisfy both camps. Apple really didn't think this through, phoned it in if you like (sorry), and then piled on the pain by adding a popup to explain what was happening -- something that in the old days they deemed indicative of a UI that needed to be rethought. I see the utility of the new functionality, but I'm a user of the old functionality. I don't spend money on a new phone every year like many readers, and Bluetooth and WiFi (particularly where many weak non-public networks overlap) definitely put a strain on my battery and my patience. When I turn them off, I want them off.

AAAarrrrgghh! OMG This is CRAZINESS. Apple needs to stop it.

Here's a solution:
2 buttons. Or 3 states of 1 button:

Button to PAUSE wifi/bluetooth.
Button to STOP wifi/bluetooth (completely turn off all signal).

Or a button that cycles between "Play" or "On", and "Pause" and "Stop/OFF" mode.

I remember the days when "off" meant "EVERYTHING OFF, NOT JUST SOME THINGS AND THEY STAY OFF UNTIL I SAY OTHERWISE". But now it's all conditional and temporary. *sigh* Good times.

Apple has always known better than you how, when, and where your device should operate. You're just a stupid user in Apple's eyes.

accessing the Control Center on the iPhone X is done from a swipe down on the top right side of the device rather than a swipe upwards from the bottom

This is what is pissing me off about the 'new Apple' and the new products.

They keep randomly reassigning established motions for other functions. Okay, so now what wonder of modern science does swiping up on the X present you? A hysterically laughing face?

The Apple Watch has become a mess of things that never work the same from one release after another. For Ford's sake, Apple, this is getting ridiculous!!!

Just go into settings and turn off WIFI and BT. Not that hard.

No need for a simple control centre at all then really is there? For every function go into settings, flaff about, find what you want and access it. Why not keep on/off as on/off and make the temporary version accessible through settings... Not that hard...

My city is full of Telekom Hotspots but half of them do not even work yet my iPhone keeps trying to connect and while doing so it kills my mobile internet. I have to manually disable it everytime it finds a hotspot in reach

I have nearly the same problem. My internet at home can be useless at times thanks to my crappy ISP, so I need to disable Wi-Fi. Well when it keeps reconnecting to the Wi-Fi when I just told it to turn off, it gets pretty annoying.

Which has been proved to not save battery...

So your saying wifi and bluetooth , which are radios just like cellular radio by the way...use absolutely no energy at all to function? Do tell me more.......
[doublepost=1510671556][/doublepost]
You’re wrong. Bluetooth should save, at most, 3%. Your Bluetooth is not actively searching to be paired if it is “disconnected” from Control Center. Keep spreading pseudo-scientific statements if you wish though.
Thank you, I've never understood how people think wifi and bluetooth dont use energy at all. Nobody said it was a night / day difference on battery savings but every lil bit even 1-3% helps.....

No, but the saving by turning them off is not worth it. Also, turning wifi can cause you to use more battery because now your phone has to use gps all the time.

..
Let me know when anyone but a few smart-phone makers drop analog audio jacks from their equipment.
And, please fill me in on how this is the 'wave of the future'. What's futuristic about it?

So I'll counter your argument with, what if a user disables location services entirely? As I said earlier, the battery savings are there. If your not using them, turn them off.

I don't get the love for batteries and recharging everything all the time. Wired headphones worked just fine, that taptic engine needs all the space though... To replace a button click.

Those of us with vision disabilities simply wish the they would re-add the ability to add Night Shift as a Control Center option. Night Shift is great--except when I take photos I need to briefly turn it off. Now it's a complicated to work one's way through the Settings submenu to turn it off and on. Fine if it's not a default setting but don't understand why it can't be an option of those of us with vision issues.

You are saying that you don't need Control Center toggles for WiFi and BT, you as in you personally can already do that by not launching CC, but for the rest of us, we would be prefer what is intelligibly better, toggle on/off in CC.

I don't have a choice with Cellular radio, I don't want my WiFi and BT radio being tracked everywhere I go.

If you turn everything off what is the point of having a smart phone? Why not turn of cell service it used the most battery...
[doublepost=1510677343][/doublepost]
Then why are there misleading and totally useless toggles in the Control Center? Apple should remove this functionality all together and point the the settings instead.

Because they are useful and only misleading because they changed what they used to do. In a year this will be moot point because no one will remember what they used to do...

With iOS 11 you can no long be tracked by wifi.

That is what I would call user error if you forget to turn WiFi back on, I can manage on my own what networks that I need to connect to. I don't need a setting to dumb me down.

But all I want is to temporary disconnect from wifi, the new function works perfect. And guessing Apple has figured out this what most people want, does that mean it will work for everyone, no of course not.

True. But it's unquestionable how badly Apple has communicated this change. Which is probably why most of the people are mad.

Apple. Stop it!! Give me an easy way to TURN OFF what I want OFF without going menu diving 10 times a day. Or for sure you will force me to Samsung or other solution. Plain and simple.

Not a chance. They have their reasons but you can be sure it's because it benefits Apple some way. There's no way this is what "most people" wanted. Anecdotally everyone I know prefers ON / OFF for the toggle and dislikes the new version, even after adjusting to it.

I can't wait for light switches or car engines to take on this functionality since it's so great - after all, I don't want a room dark forever and I'll start my car later anyway right? I'd love MacRumours or any other site to do a poll... But of course those results won't be valid for one reason or another to apologists...

It still uses gps the same amount, the wifi positioning is for enhanced geo-locating services (lines of bearing). This locating tool isn't functioning 100% of the time unless you haven't fixed your apps to only use location data when using them. The "radios" only listen for micro secs at a time to maintain cellular and wifi connection, the biggest drain on the battery outside of actual use is when you move in and out of cell tower ranges and/or tower handoff (primarily rural environment or dense urban buildings).

This whole thing looks like... to me.

If not searching or responding to offers to pair, then what's the difference between disconnected and off? And why TF does it have such an impact on my battery?

Care to point out the source for the information?

I was wrong was added in iOS8 but didn't work as expected until iOS9. https://medium.com/@FredericJacobs/apple-ios-9-security-privacy-features-8d82d9da10eb

Watching one video has bigger impact then leaving BT on.
